Roleplay Vocab

Vocab List:

this list was provided by Tanta Mally to help out people new to Role-Playing :)

RP or RPG: A much used word in Role Play, because what it stands for is role play or role play game. Most will probably figure that out for themselves, as they are almost always used.

GM, GP and PP:
Alot of people get these confused. Often, you'll also see 'MS' and 'GS' pop up every now and again. These abbreviations stand for God Modding, God Play, Power Playing, Mary-Sues and Gary-Sues. Let's start off with Mary-Sues which are usually female, and Gary-Sues which are male. These can sometimes be a type of God-Modding or even God-Play, if you like. 'MS' and 'GS' are the perfectionists; they are often flawless, the most beautiful/handsome, get all the guys/girls and prance around like they own the place. This is where things get a bit sticky. God-Modding and Mary-Sues/Gary-Sues can be the same thing. These characters are always able to dodge moves, strike hits before the other character can retaliate, (and when hunting) take down an entire elephant unaided and with a quick bite. To put it simply, they are the most accurate at attacking, strongest, fastest to dodge and possess extreme agility.
Power Playing, on the other hand, is when someone controls another persons character without permission, however subtle.

Charrie(s): Slang for Characters.

OOC: This stands for Octopuses On Cars. Joking! It stands for Out Of Character, usually used as a polite way of saying 'I'm now not posting as my character, so don't get confused!'. When someone wants to post something that is not part of the Role Play, they might put 'OOC' or just brackets around their words. Some people may do a post of entirely 'OOC' but not state that they did. Often it is obvious to tell that they are not in character.

Semi-Lit: A semi-literate role player is someone who is able to post about a paragraph or two per post and fairly descriptive, tuned grammar and punctuation as well as being able to obey the rules as much as they can. Most role plays are semi-literate because a wider portion of the public are semi-literate in comparison to fully literate role players.

Literate:
These types of role players have a wide knowledge of role play, as they have usually had much practice. They are able to type at least two paragraphs per post without dribbling nonsense, use finely-tunned imagery, grammar and punctuation. They may use more fonts than others and have a full understanding of the rules and strive to uphold them. Literate role plays are not as common as others on a role play forum that wasn't originally made for role play. Some websites that are built entirely on the role plays that occur on it, are literate.

Others that get used some:
L33T Speak: When you use numbers or symbols to make words. It can be extremely difficult to read and is generally not appropriate in roleplays. Some people put up rules saying specifically not to use it.

Chat Speak: LOL, ROFL, and BRB are examples. Most people don't mind the use of basic chatspeak Out Of Character, but it should never be used In Character.

NPC: Non Player Character: A non player character is one that can be controlled by any player. A good example of this would be a waitress in a restaurant. One person has their character place and order and has the waitress write it down and then the next person does the same. The last person can then have the waitress leave to go give the order to the cook. Sometimes NPC's develop into PC's (player characters) over the course of the RP.

Character Sheet/Bio: This is a basic compilation of your character's information. Generally included (but not limited to): Name, Age, Gender, and Looks/Appearance. This is a reference and should not replace a description of your character in your intro.

RL: Real Life: Sometimes IRL: In Real Life

Character Limit: There is usually a limit to the number of characters you can have. If the limit is not stated do not start with more then two. Normally limits only apply for the first while, if the RP is getting interested and more complicated then the creator may remove or extend the limit.

It might be nice if someone who does wolf pack RP's and/or horse RP's could post some of the lingo. I've never really done too much of that. All I know is: Orb=Eye Crown=Head Flag=Tail

This is something made up by Snowtiger(so I'm not taking credit)BTRP means Back to Role Play because sometimes people just end up chatting about other stuff.

I've also seen "BIC" used to get back to roleplaying; it stands for "Back in Character."

I'm the unofficial expert on wolfspeak-

Eye: Orb, Sphere, Optic, Light, Headlight, Pool, -name of gemstone here-, Orbital, pupil.

Head: Thinking box, crania, cranium, skull. For horses and dragons, dial is occasionally used.

Foot/paw: Mitt, mitten, pad. Claws/Teeth: Flints, daggers, knives, ivories.

Tail: Brush, flag, banner, streamer, -and my personal... favorite is not the right word, as I have a deep hatred of wolfspeak- tassle.

Leg: Pillar, Pistion.

Male: Brute, Brujo.

Female: Fay/Fae/Fea, Alphena, Alphess, Vixen.

Body: Barrel.

Ear: Aud, Audit, Auditory, Satalite, twin towers, caves.

Everywhere I have gone, wolfspeak is regarded as a sign of being rather incompitent and most who use it are prone to sues/perfects, and disregarding rules. In any case, I'd like to offer my opinion- if it conjures up the mental image of a car -read it with no prior knowledge to what they mean- or something not of a living animal, don't use it. -leaves-

I know a few wolfspeak words

Throat I think was Juggler

Female: Femme - fem

Muzzle/mouth - Maw

Advice: If you plan to use wolfspeak or something like that, I would recommend not using it every other words such as an example sentence: "The ivory furred brute flicked his audits against his crania, banner slightly blown by the wind." Most people do not like it when you use wolfspeak too many times like the sentence above. But if you use it every so often, it can make your role play look "pretty"

Basically, don't use wolfspeak every other word.

Also, I've seen people use IC - In character.

Just so all know, Femme and Fem are most commonly used when relating to sexual orientation, in short, its girly, where butch is more tomboyish, that is when referring to lesbians, I would avoid such language, so as not to confuse people.

Yeah, I dislike people who use wolfspeak every other word, so I just don't bother using it!

I've also heard the fur around he face called a "mane", and many different names for ages, colors, landscapes, and emotions. I do agree though, wolf speak is like make-up, a little looks really pretty but too much is super ugly. I guess it really does pay off to have had a wolf role play site, and been part of 4 other wolf role play sites. ^^
