~CLASS INFORMATION~

-ASTRONOMY-

Astronomy lessons are spent learning the names of stars and the movements of planets. It is a required class for the first five years of study. And is optional in the last two.

In fifth year the Ordinary Wizarding Level examinations are taken. During the exam students must fill in a blank star chart. If a student achieves a high O.W.L. score of either 'Outstanding' or 'Exceeds Expectations' they are allowed to advance to N.E.W.T.-level.

Astronomy is one of the only fields of study at Hogwarts which has a direct equivalent in the Muggle world. Known student activities include learning the names of stars, constellations, and planets, as well as their location and movements, and describing the environments of planets and moons.

Wisearcre's Wizarding Equipment in Diagon Alley sells telescopes and other equipment needed for Astronomy.

In Herbology, students learn to care for and utilize plants, and learn about their magical properties, and what they are used for. Many plants provide ingredients for potions and medicine, while others have magical effects of their own right.

Herbology is a mandatory class at Hogwarts for the first five years of a student's education.

Students spend class time learning about the different varieties of magical plants that exist. The further into a student's education the more difficult and dangerous the plants become.

Potion recipes can be found in many books, including the books the students at Hogwarts use in their classes, but the intricacies of timing, ageing, stirring techniques, and bottling which are much more difficult to learn without the mentoring of the experienced masters. TRANSFIGURATION

Transfiguration is a subject taught at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. It teaches the art of changing the form and appearance of an object. This type of magic is commonly referred to as "Transfiguration". There are limits to Transfiguration, which are governed by Gamp's Law of Elemental Transfiguration. There are also many branches of Transfiguration, including Cross-Species Transfiguration and Human Transfiguration. Transfiguration is rearguard as "very hard work" and is "more scientific" than any other subject as in, you have to get it exactly right for the transfiguration to be successful.
Students practice actual transfigurations during classes. Accidents sometimes result in partial transfigurations and theoretical homework is sometimes assigned. The further into a student's education the more difficult the classwork and homework becomes.

ELECTIVES

ANCIENT RUNES

The Study of Ancient Runes (commonly shortened to Ancient Runes) is an elective course at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, that can be taken by students third year and above
Ancient Runes is a mostly theoretical subject that studies the ancient runic scripts of magic.

ARITHMANCY

Arithmancy is an elective subject offered from the third year on at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. During the 1990s at least, the class was taught by Professor Septima Vector in Classroom 7A, on the Castle's seventh floor. Homework assignments, which included writing essays, required the consultation and/or composition of complex number charts. Little else is known about the class, but the study of Arithmancy has been described as "predicting the future using numbers," with "bit of numerology" as well.

MUGGLE STUDIES

Muggle Studies is part of the non-magical studies curriculum at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. It is exactly what the name implies - the study of the daily lives of Muggles and how they cope with electricity and not magic. This class aims specifically to acquaint wizards and witches who do not have direct contact with Muggles with the way they live; one known essay topic was "Why Muggles Need Electricity." It is an optional subject, taught from the third year to the seventh.

CARE OF MAGICAL CREATURES

Care of Magical Creatures is an elective course at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry that can be taken by students Third year and above. In the class, students learn about a wide range of magical creatures, from flobberworms to Fire crabs, and even unicorns and thestrals. Students are taught about feeding, maintaining, breeding, and proper treatment of these various creatures. The witches and wizards who succeeded in achieving an O. W. L. in the subject later could become Magizoologists. Some known magi zoologists were Newt Scamander, his grandson Rolf Scamander and his wife Luna Scamander (née Lovegood).

Creatures
Among the creatures the students learned about in these lessons during Harry's school period were:

Third year
Blast-Ended Skrewt
Blast-Ended Skrewt
Niffler
Niffler
Thestrals
A thestral.
Hippogriffs - Practical lesson which culminated in Buckbeak "savagely mauling" Draco Malfoy. It was actually only a small injury that Malfoy played up for several reasons. Among those are to get Hagrid in trouble, to annoy Harry, Ron, and Hermione, to get out of playing the Quidditch match vs. Gryffindor in bad weather, and to get some of his school work extended or done for him.
Flobberworms - Dull lessons which mostly involved feeding them lettuce, which resulted in them dying from being overfed. The third year exam for the class involved caring for these creatures for one hour, with a pass given if they were alive at the end of the exam. Since flobberworms do best if left to their own devices, it was the easiest exam anyone in the class had ever taken.
Salamanders - Taught while Hagrid was depressed about Buckbeak's pending execution.
Fourth year
Blast-Ended Skrewts - Raised as a project throughout the year. All ended up killing each other, with only two remaining by the Third Task, and only one by the end of the year. These were possibly illegally bred mixes of Manticores and Fire crabs.
Nifflers - A practical lesson which involved searching for leprechaun gold.
Unicorns - Adults and foals; the adult lessons were mostly girl-dominant, while the foals allowed the boys to approach.
Fifth year
Thestrals - Lesson was mostly impeded by Dolores Umbridge.
Bowtruckles - Classwork and homework involved sketching a Bowtruckle.
Other
Other creatures shown to classes across the years include:

Crups
Fire crabs
Knarls
Kneazles
Porlocks

Apparition

Apparition is an optional twelve-week course offered at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry for, as its name suggests, learning how to Apparate. The class begins shortly after the Christmas holidays and is offered to students who are seventeen, or who will turn seventeen during the school year. The course costs 12 Galleons.

Alchemy
Provided there is sufficient demand, Alchemy is an optional subject taught at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry to sixth and seventh-years. It concerns the ancient science of Alchemy, the study of the four basic elements, as well as the study of the transmutation of substances.

I like the sound of this, I just have a couple of questions before I fill out a form if that's all right?
First, are you actually going to role-play the classes because you have a lot of detail in your master post about them? (Either way is good for me, I actually like the idea.)
Also, I would mostly be on during the night and only for a few hours, so are you happy to wait for replies? (I don't want to get left behind if this is going to be a fast paced rp.)
