~Seravah~
It was once a peaceful nation. But then, a neighboring country attacked, wanting to aquire more land. The Seravahn parliamentary government was temporarily replaced with one man--Dow Avarax. Avarax was determined to help his country win the war and stay independent. He did, for he was a strong leader. But they say that power corrupts, and indeed it does.
Avarax had a hard heart, and a thirst for power. He knew that he would be taken out of complete power soon, back to being a member on a 24 member parliament. The idea burned within him. He wouldn't do it. He couldn't. He had his supporters, he thought, people who would help him remain dicator. Except, he decided, he wouldn't be a dictator, he would be a king. He smiled to himself, and sent his assassins, assigned to serve only him, to murdur the other 23 members of the former parliament.
Avarax set new rules to the society. They were designed specially to keep people where they should be--not attempting to end his reign. Everyone was designated classes, numbered for easy finding. There class and number was tattoed on their left wrist at a young age. Anyone who opposed Avarax was...eliminated...
But then some people wouldn't stand to live under the dictator who called himself a king. They organized into a group called the Resistence. People changed there names, faked there deaths, and ran away to join the group trying to bring about a revolution. They lived in the woods, rags on their left wrists that covered their hated codes. There they planned, and waited for the right time to end the autocracy...
The Class System
The class system is an important part of the society of Seravah. Each person is born into their class, the class of their parents. Marriages between classes are allowed, but are few, as the higher class member is treated as one of the lower class and any children from the marriage take the lower class. Occasionally, there may be a contest to move up a class, in which case the persons new code, complete with a new numbering, is tattoed on their right wrist.
Class A--The King
Only the king is in this class.
Class B--Other Immediate Royalty
Queen, prince, princess. As Avarax has no relatives, there is no one of the B Class.
Class C--Nobles
Dukes, duchesses, lords, ladies.
Class D--Merchants
The rich who trade with other nations.
Class E--Fine Trade-Members
Those who do fine skilled trades, such as creating silk or making jewelry.
Class F--Artisans
Those who paint, perform, and the like for those of the higher classes.
Class G--Skilled Trade-Members
Blacksmiths, shoemakers, and the like.
Class H--Messengers
The delivery system of the kingdom. There are very few of these, and all must be quick and have good memories, as few people can afford paper, and it is impratical to carry that much paper.
Class I--Semi-Skilled Trade-Members
Tanners, candlemakers, and the like.
Class J--Unskilled Laborers
Those who do work that require no specific skills, like carrying stones from one place to another, or painting a cottage.
Class K--Farmers(Peasants)
Those who work the land and produce food.
Class L--Slaves
Slaves who are owned by higher classes and must work for them for no money.
Class β(Beta)--Assassins Of The King
This is not a normal class, and most subjects do not know of it. The few of Class β keep the king's subjects "in line" and get rid of them if necessary.
Information on Seravah
Seravah itself is heavily wooded. There are fields used for farming, and the forest is cleared in spots for villages, but otherwise it is just dense trees with paths leading from place to place. The climate is not mild, but it's not harsh, either. The summers are fairly warm and the winters are fairly cold.
The people of Seravah tend to be fair- or light olive-skinned, and freckles are common. Their hair is usually red, auburn, or brown, and curly or wavy. Their eyes are frequently gray, gray-blue, or gray-green. They are typically of average height and slim. None of these characteristics are guarantees, but they are common.
The clothes and styles of the average Seravahian people are much the same for men, women, and children. In warmer weather, they wear long, loose tunics with V-necks, belted loosely about the waist. Both females and males wear short, full skirt-like clothing pieces called givrels. Underneath this they wear light cotton leggings and heavy, pointed-toed boots. In colder weather, they switch the cotton leggings for woolen ones and add a long coat that is tight to the waist and then flares out past the hem of the givrel. When outside in the cold, knit hats are common. Woman wear their hair long and in pony-tails, and males wear theirs loose and to their shoulders. Colors of the clothing for those of the lower classes include all shades of cream, tan, and brown, plus a sky blue and raspberry. (I had this all sketched out, but Photoshop decided not to save it. >.> I'll sketch it again later)
Specific responsibilities are not assigned by gender in Seravahn. A male may cook supper and a female may farm. If a couple has children, the spouse who makes the least money usually takes care of the children if they cannot hire a nurse. If they both make equal money, whichever spouse prefers to stay home, will.
The currency of Seravah is coins, all stamped with Avarax's profile. The coin worth the most is called a vers. Vers' are made of gold. The next is the erot, made of silver. Then, there is the wiln, made of bronze. Lower-classed workers are usually paid in wilns.
