Welcome to the Battle Ground: Oaksdale College

In 2005, a virus known as ZED was released from a lab beneath Goucher College. The virus spread rapidly, but the government managed to contain it. The United States government claimed that the threat had passed, and that the citizens of the country were safe. Yet after years of testing, there is still no vaccine, no cure, for the virus that reanimates the dead bodies of the infected and makes them crave human flesh, specifically brains.

Many people refused to believe that the threat had truly passed because there was no known cure, and so they began to take matters into their own hands. Underground groups began to form at colleges across the country, college students who were determined to be prepared in case of the return of the zombie menace. They called their movement HvZ, standing for Humans vs. Zombies. They hoarded weapons, ammunition, and survival supplies. They created security systems in case of an outbreak. They made contacts higher up in government. Despite the distrust in the United States government the HvZ Squads believed that they would more time. It has only been seven years and yet...another outbreak has occurred. And this one cannot be contained...

~Settings~

Oaksdale college is fictional. Any college by that name is unrelated to this roleplay. Oaksdale is a massive sprawling campus with many brick pathways and buildings, to walk from the top of North Campus to the bottom of South Campus takes about 2 hours. The same goes for walking furthest East to Furthest West.

North Campus (Sports): Includes the Gymnasiums (under which is the HvZ Armory), An outdoor swimming pool, an indoor Olympic size swimming pool, a football stadium, a basketball stadium, a cafeteria, and three dorm buildings (Tessa, Claire, and Walden)

East Campus (Math/Science): Includes Math and science academic buildings, outdoor gardens, and fields for students to play recreationally. Two dorm buildings (Matrix, Galileo)

Central Campus (Libraries/administration): Includes three libraries (Underground Library, James Library, and George Library), the academic advising building, a cafeteria, a flagpole and the main administration building (which has the S.S on top of the roof)

West Campus (History/English): Includes History and English buildings, the Student Union. Two dorms (Dickens, Rowling)

South Campus (Labs/Law/Medical): Includes the many science labs, law school buildings, and a hospital, where the pre-med and medical students train. Three dorms (Greg, Cuddy, Wilson)

Oaksdale (in front of the college): Includes rows of tiny restaurants, boutiques, a CVS pharmacy, a bank and a few small neighborhoods, but no Mall.

Foggy Forest/Swamp (Behind the college): A thick forest made of very thin trees, further in the trees thicken into being massive as the soft muddy ground becomes a swamp that is 6 feet at its deepest. There is a wooden bridge that stretches high over the water, but you might as well be begging for the zombies to trap you on it.

~Basic Facts~

1. Zombies do not think or feel/ they operate on instinct only. They move in hoards usually, though occasionally one will wander ahead, trail behind, or wander too far to the side of the hoard.
2. A bite will turn you, a scratch will not. The virus is not airborne. No one is immune.
3. The squads are well trained but they are still college students, some arguments are to be expected but they will usually stick together no matter what.

Safety Precautions that the HvZ Squad should take in case of Zombie Outbreak

1. Sign onto the "Source", a website that the HvZ squad can communicate with all members at once. It can send out mass emails/text messages as well as private ones.
2. Grab some weapons from the armory which is located in North Campus beneath the main gymnasiums.
3. Activate the sound shield- The S.S is located at the top of the administration building(Central Campus) and generates a sound frequency that disrupts zombie brainwaves. It requires little power to run but falters during heavy winds/thunderstorms.
4. Head over to the labs (South Campus) where scientists are still working to develop a cure. There is a year's worth of food and water for twenty people, sleeping bags, and survival packs in the upper floors of this building.
5. Contact Riverside College (about 45 miles away) and see how they are holding up.

~Rules~

1. Tess's rules apply.
2. No excessive violence, the zombies may take two or three shots to go down but no excessive blood/guts description. Same for getting eaten by zombies. Focus more on your characters fear/pain/sadness than the blood/guts.
3. Censored swearing is expected and allowed.
3. Semi-Lit+, Ten sentences minimum per character even with writers block.
4. Two characters per roleplayer. You must have two. One boy and one girl. (All other HvZ Squad members/college students are NPC's)
5. Activity wise one post every two days or we'll be side-eying the heck out of you. >>
6. Posting, please wait for at least two other people to post before posting again. This keeps people involved.

//Personality//Artemis is fierce and impulsive. She's the sort of person who could walk through a room and make the room ten degrees hotter. Maybe that's just the Aries in her. She is the person that one can immediately look at and tell she's the boss. However, the traits that singled her out for the First in Command position were her responsibility and intelligence. In her rush to make a decision, she doesn't always make the right call, but she'll usually go with the first plausible plan of action.

Artemis is also understanding. Although she may get impatient dealing with her technicians and scientists, she understands that they are under a lot of pressure to do their jobs as it is. She may snap at first, but usually she'll immediately back and give them room to work. The one thing that she will not be understanding of is pure disobedience just for the sake of it. A few people might get by with "I had to save my friend", but if it becomes a habit make no doubt she'll demote you and take all your weaponry privileges.

She has her fears too of course. The first and foremost of which is that she can't swim. She has always had a perpetual fear of the swamp behind the college. This fear has never kept her from exploring the foggy forest and reaching the bridge, but she certainly never desired to cross it. Her second largest fear is what would happen to her family in case of a zombie outbreak. Artemis has taken all the steps to turn Oaksdale college into a proper fortress, but without a larger shield there was no way to protect the residents of Oaksdale, not her parents or her little brother. She fears that they will become zombies and that she will be unable to kill them.

//History//Artemis was born in the lovely little fog town of Oaksdale. She was a lively little fireball, always leading her small group of friends into adventure and trouble. She was Captain of the co-ed baseball team in elementary school, Captain of the girl's soccer team in middle school, and Captain of the cheerleading squad in high school. Her grades were a steady sign of her brilliant mind, always A's though sometimes flickering to a B around the middle of the semester.

Everyone had always assumed that Artemis would go to school out of town, at the least to Riverside College and at most to Harvard. The community couldn't be prouder to have their bright star stay in town and attend Oaksdale. Though by the time she entered college, she was no longer interested in sports or grades. She was interested in preparing herself for the zombie apocalypse. The HvZ Squad in Oaksdale College was 3 years old with only 20 members when she joined. She was one of the few girls to be accepted and she proved more than her worth in the early weeks of her training. She was a Junior when she was appointed Second in Command, but did so much work that her transfer to First in Command was seamless.

//Personality//Jason is of the shoot-everything-that-moves variety. He's strong, fast, and he knows it. He's definitely more of a physical person. He's most comfortable in a fight or on a field. Beyond comrades-in-arms he doesn't have much patience for social situations. Dinner parties bore the h*** out of him, and he barely has tolerance for hanging out unless he's had a few drinks in him. He's naturally rude and swearing comes easy to him. He also makes some rather inappropriate jokes at inappropriate times. He's smart but impatient, he's similar to Artemis in that way but he lacks her compassion and that takes him out of the running to be leader.
//History//Jason grew up on the cold brutal streets of Brooklyn, New York. His parents were addicted to several substances, often leaving young Jason to fend for himself. He had the occasional sympathy of an old woman neighbor. He was seven before social services came for him. He spent years in the system. Every day for him was a real battle. He perfected his brutal fighting style between foster homes.

When he was finally adopted, by a fairly wealthy man with three other adopted kids, his aggressive energy was transferred into sports. He played football and lacrosse. It was pretty certain that if Jason tackled you, you were getting injured. He single-handedly caused half the injuries to other teams in his junior year of high school. The family that adopted him wasn't rich but his football and lacrosse scholarships got him into a small elite college...Oaksdale College.

Jason joined the HvZ Squad not out of concern for the future o humanity, but because joining promised him access to weapons, chances to train with people just as pumped for fighting as he was, and certain survival in case the virus ever did break out. He majored in physical education. You know, so he could be a coach.

//Personality//I believe that Kale looks very cold. Kale is very cold. He does not get close to anyone, nor let anyone get close to him. He's not a 'loner' because loners generally don't want to be alone. Kale is more of a hermit. Kale does not want company, he does not like company. He's got fifty foot walls that no one dares climb, because he's standing at the top with his pistol, ready to shoot them off. However cold Kale is, he's not completely apathetic. He's very passionate about finding a cure for ZED, and saving Oaksdale, and essentially, the rest of the Nation. Also, Kale will never leave a man, or woman, behind. Even if it means putting his own life in danger. Just don't thank him for it.
//History//Kale has been in foster care for his entire life. It's a complete miracle he made it to college, he did it with scholarships and his dead parents' money. So there's one reason he never got close to people, Kale moved around too much to actually connect with someone. Another reason Kale is so cold, is because, once upon a time, he had a serious girlfriend. Kale was so in love with her, and they were going to get married. Her name was Katie. It's true that when ZED came out, the virus spread rapidly, but then it was contained. Well, freak accidents happen. Katie's grandmother had recently passed away, and Katie went to visit her at the graveyard. While visiting, Katie was attacked and turned by a horde of zombies {Thankfully, none of them were Katie's grandmother}. Katie was gunned down by authorities. It broke Kale's heart, and that is the main reason why he doesn't get close to people, and why he is so passionate about finding a cure for ZED. And now that there is an uncontained outbreak, Kale is so determined to stop it.

//Personality//Ashley is a bit of a serious girl. Hey, we're in a zombie apocalypse, you're not going to find very many upbeat people. She's not much of an optimist, but Ashley wouldn't call herself a full-blown pessimist. She's more of a realist. Ashley takes her job very seriously, and that may seem hypocritical because, to be honest, she's not very good at following orders. Ashley always has to test it. 'Is this really the best way to do it?' A leader would probably find that very annoying, but if she trusts the order, Ashley will follow it without fail. Ashley is very loyal that way. Even if Ashley is a solider, she still trembles every time she faces a zombie. Thank goodness, she hasn't faced and former family members or friends, but she has heard stories..
//History//Ashley grew up in Riverside. She wanted to get away for college, but not too far, so Oaksdale was perfect for her. That is, until Oaksdale turned themselves into an HvZ. It took some getting used to, but Ashley is very commited to HvZ now. Ashley's parents are in their mid 50's, and she had a brother who is 25, Danny, a sister in law, Marie, and they just had a baby, Sarah. They also live in Riverside. Ashley fights so hard for HvZ to protect them.
