You were either born here or you just recently moved here, to the small town of Iron Pass in the mountains of Virginia. The population is small and the entire town only has 2 stoplights. There's no Wal-Mart or McDonald's. There's one elementary, one middle, and one high school and almost everyone knows each other.

One day, a group of friends decide to head out to look at the abandoned mines. Everyone in the town knows that they are off limits and very unsafe. Everyone also know of the 'legends' of the mines. Workers being dragged off by spiders 4 feet tall.... sprites, glowing snakes, the like. Well, anyway, they all knew they weren't supposed to be there. Plus, there are many signs and boards barring entry. There was an earthquake and the mine collapsed, burying the friends deep underground. The only way out is an entrance on the other side of the mountain. On top it would take about a day of walking. Underground... it may take a week. They have no food or water and there are... odd things beneath the surface. Creatures that they've never seen.

After a while, they find some odd plants growing. With no other source of food, they decide to eat it. Strange things happen. They all lose something, but gain an odd power in return.

Will they survive?

NOTE WELL
~They DO NOT start out with ANY power at all.
~The creatures in the mines are NPCs so you can just make them up and RP them a little as we go along. They can be anything smaller than 6 feet tall.
~The mines themselves are realistic. There are some old tracks and carts, but almost all the oil lamps have burned out. It's pitch black except for an eerie glow from some type of odd rocks here and there.
~The mines are connected to some untouched caves, which can either be small and blank or large and wondrous, with pools of water and gems of all sorts. However, NOT TOO MANY OF THESE SEEING AS HOW THIS IS A PARTIAL SURVIVAL RP. We don't want it too easy, do we?

She can shift into a dragon-eyrie and control dark fire. When she shifts, she can either be fully human, fully creature, or a human with different animalistic features, like wings and a tail.
A dragon-eyrie is a mixture of an eyrie, the neopet, and the movie version of Saphira. Her body is that of an eyrie without the mane, 2 feet at the shoulders, and she has paws with silver claws and a silver beak lined with teeth. Her wings, 8 feet across, and tail, 3 feet long, are that of Saphira. Her whole body is covered in purple scales with silver, star-like speckles and her eyes are bright blue in this form.

She has a mixture of everything in her lineage, but she was born in America. She is mainly Swiss and Native American.

She can speak English, Latin, and Japanese.
Looks:
Very much like the picture above. She stands at about 5'2" and weighs approximately 105 pounds. Overall, she is quite small and skinny for her age. She isn't very curvy, but isn't that flat either. Her arms aren't the biggest, but her legs are almost pure muscle. Her stomach is flat and strong, all from being outside almost her entire life as a child. She is also tan, but not to the point of being brown. Her hair is short and shaggy and white, often hanging in her eyes like a guy's style. Her bangs cover her right eye most of the time. Her eyes are very unique from both her original color and an accident she had. Her left eye is a very bright blue color, with a ring of grayish green around the center and green flecks throughout. Her right eye, due to an accident, is a very faint bluish-gray that almost seems white in the center. She has no piercings, but many scars and tattoos. There are silver angel wings, one on either side of her left ankle. She also has a barbed wire heart on her upper left arm that says 'Edward' in cursive letters and a purple flame on the back of her right hand. On her left hand is a purple Ouroboros tattoo. There's a large, jagged white scar running from her left temple to her right collar bone, along with a myriad of other smaller scars over her entire body. Her normal outfit tends to be jean capris and t-shirts, either fitted or small guy shirts. She also wears black sneakers or goes barefoot most of the time. She always has a black leather wristband on her left wrist and a silver chain choker necklace on her neck. Also, due to her eye, she always wears a black eyepatch over her right eye.



Personality:
On the surface she may just seem to be boring or stoic, but she is truly an extremely dark and unstable girl. Most of this stems from the fact that her family was killed and she blames herself and now her guardians abuse her daily. Most of the time, she tends to stay by herself. Most other people either bore or annoy her, or may even try to supercede her and tell her what to do. She has never really had a close friend and has never dated. Thus, she has only known familial love, though that was for a short time.

Her true emotions remain buried deep down in her heart. No one has ever truly broken open her impenetrable shell and discovered the real her. Not many have ever tried to do so. She hasn't found anyone that she would want to be able to break open her shell anyway. She prefers to remain alone and cold. She can't hurt others and no one can hurt her. The only emotions that tend to peak through are anger and sadness.

Another downside to her personality is her stubborness. She rarely sways her opinions on any matter, though she'll entertain whatever you have to say. She defends her opinions to the death and it's not wise to make her mad. Also, she tends to be rash. Thinking before she acts is how she's always lived her life.

Before her tragic history, she was a very sweet girl that loved to make friends and would do anything for them. Now she doesn't want anything to do with the world. Her passions are drawing, music and anime.

History:
Danika's history is as dark as her personality. At first, it seemed all happy and cheery. She lived with her mother, father and older brother (by 2 years) in a nice house near the woods in Montana. She grew up outside with her brother and became one with nature early on. She can identify most kinds of plants in animals and can survive easily in the woods.

When she reached the age of 8, her brother was almost killed. One winter they were playing on a frozen lake. He said he didn't want to, but Danika convinced him with a little whining. Well, they fell through the ice. Her brother, Edward, managed to save her, but it severely hurt him. Once their parents rescued them, they were rushed to the hospital. Edward took the blame. He ended up bed-ridden with hypothermia and pneumonia and fell into a coma. He died a few weeks later. Danika only had slight hypothermia. She still blames herself for this incident.

When she was 9, barely a year after her brother's death, there was another tragedy. A horrid house fire broke out in the middle of the night. Danika managed to escape with her life, but barely. She got most of her big scars from debris and a large piece of brick caused her left eye to go fuzzy. The color is different and she can't see out of it well. Once she was out, she discovered her parents were dead. She was immediately shipped off to live with her Aunt Megan Beatty in California. Her little home in Montana was gone.

In California she was sent to a private school where she learned Latin, among other things. She didn't fit, so her aunt decided to move to her mother's home in Japan. While in Japan, Danika learned the language fluently, as well as started an anime addiction. Whenever she spoke out or rebelled against her aunt, she would be abused or beaten, adding to her menagerie of scars. Her aunt's mother died when Danika was 16, so her aunt moved them back to the States to live with a guy she met named Harold Jackson. He is also abusive towards Danika, so she is amost never home. He lives in Iron Pass so that is how she just recently moved here. Her aunt is nice enough to let her keep music and art in her life.
Likes:

+Music. She both sings and plays the violin. It's an escape.
+Nature. She's only home on the occasional stormy day or night. Sometimes not even then.

Surface absorption- He can, just by touching a surface, 'absorb' its qualities. By absorbing, he can change his forearms and calves to whatever material he touches- water, stone, etc. Everything but air. And if it's not a solid, he can still somehow use it as if it were if he so chooses.
Finger writing- Just by concentrating, he can draw things on any surface or in the air. It appears as an odd, highlighterish, paint-like writing. He can draw or write and he can also erase it. It fades over time.

He's originally from Japan, but his mother was American and his father was part Japanese, part English (like, from England).

Looks:
Len stands at about 5'5" and weighs about 140 pounds. He is extremely skinny and looks brittle, though he's not. His skin is moderately tan. His hair is blonde and shaggy, almost golden in appearance. He keeps it loose around his head, often using it to mesmerize girls with it (or so his manager said). His eyes are a very delicate shade of teal, the perfect mixture and shade of blue and green. He has no tattoos, but he does have multiple scars on his body, the most prominent being a long line over his heart. His fingers are long and skinny, perfect for playing the piano. He has a charming smile with perfectly straight teeth and his proportions are excellent. He does have a decent amount of muscle, but it's not to where he's buff. He tends to wear dress-shirts, yellow or white, unbuttoned a few buttons, with black jeans and yellow converse. He also always has headphones on his neck, even if he doesn't have his iPod. Often times he doesn't.



Personality:
You might expect such a famous and pampered boy to be a snob and weakling. Well, you're wrong. He's anything but. Yes, he's a charmer, and yes, he most always gets his way, but he isn't a snob. If he suddenly comes into money, he donates a large majority of it and saves the rest, spending only a little bit on iTunes or candy like a normal kid. He may seem to love the spotlight and fame, but he really hates it. His stage identity of the seductive, charming young boy doesn't really fit him. He was not made to be Japan's 'Justin Beiber' or 'Zac Efron'.

When not on stage, he's a sweet and loving young man that would gladly lay his life on the line for his friends. Everywhere he goes he manages to make new friends, though most of the time they end up being crazed fans that stalk him. His true friends, though, are loved by him fiercely and are always cared for. He never gives up on them, himself, or his beliefs, no matter the circumstances.

His main downfall is that he's so caring. Many a time, he has put himself in harm's way for others. This has landed him in the hospital with cuts, broken bones, and once he even got pneumonia for saving his cousin from a lake. His other downfall is that he likes to be in charge. He can be rather bossy at times, which can offend some. He tends to be right on most small matters, but he does make mistakes. People tend to trust him, which can backfire. He protects them and takes the blame, but is often given the brunt of the disaster.
History:
Most of his life, Len has lived in Japan. However, by some odd fluke, his voice has no trace of a Japanese accent. Because his father was English, he has a slight British accent, however (imagine a British Tamaki Suoh). He was born in Japan and lived in the heart of Tokyo for his duration there. As a young child, his parents involved him in many things until they found his forte- acting and singing, though it was in Japanese of course. Since he was 4, he has been involved with different industries and has lived a very pampered life. He was never denied anything, be it a private jet, a girl, or a dog. When he reached the age of 14, he became a pop-idol. The daughter of his father's friend joined him and together, and they dominated the charts in Japan for 2 years.

When he reached the age of 16, however, he suddenly let out his feelings about his life- his true feelings. While on stage he 'loved it', he really wanted to be a normal child. Because of that, his parents moved to the US. To try and avoid 'fangirls', they moved to Iron pass, where they've been living for over a year now.
Likes:
+Music. Listening or singing/playing piano for friends is lovely.
+Being with friends. Nothing is better than that.
+Being in charge and keeping others safe.
+Learning. It's invigorating.
+Stars and outer space. They're so... mesmerizing.

1- Molecular Manipulation. Annie's body has become subjectible to change. although she cannot change shape, shecan change the density of her body. She can suddenly be as hard as diamond, or a simple body of water, as she can change what matter her body is made up of.
2- Healing. Changing one's body like that would kill the average person, but she also developped amazing healing abilities, that keepher alive when she transforms. She can use it on a much weaker level if it is applied to others.

Looks:
Annie is not quite tall compared to other girls her age, standing at 5’5 and weighing 120lb. She isn’t volumptuous, but holds quite a bit of curve, giving her an hourglass figure. In summer she gets a good tan, and she tends to take a long time to tan, but takes even longer to burn, meaning it usually works out with a minimal amount of red. She positively loves that gene. She barely ever wears sunscreen thanks to this, and loves to spend her day in the pool. Her eyes are green, with a slight hint of brown.

Her hair is just curly in style, and is a dark brown in color that lightens in the summer. It reaches just past her neck in length.

She really wants a tattoo, but fears needles. She did deal with it long enough to pierce her ears though. She enjoys clothing that is bright and spunky, or extremely lovely in an almost elegant way. Usually just some jeans and a colourful shirt.




Personality:
Annie prefers small groups of close friends instead of a large group of friendly acquaintances. But that doesn’t mean she can’t have both, and tends to know the names of many people. She enjoys her time alone with a good book, but this does not necessarily mean she wishes to be unsociable all the time, and actually quite enjoys going out with friends. Some people don’t have a high tolerance for crazy, and they probably wouldn’t like her much, as she has often been called insane. No, it is not because she is overly hyper, because she is actually fairly calm, apart from if you release her fiery anger. She has always been someone who is more of a thinker than a do-er. She has quite an interesting, intelligent, and cunning mind, but often finds herself too lazy to carry out tasks until the last moment.

As mentioned before, she enjoys reading. Her favourite genre is the fictional kind, so tends to swing towards mythology and other fantastical stories. She also likes the colour purple most of all, because of the fact it can have cool, calm tones or bright, vibrant ones. She also enjoys puzzling over various different things and figuring them out.

She dislikes too much noise when she is deep in thought, as it tends to interrupt her. She isn’t too fond of overly-hyper people, as they irk her slightly. Although some seem to hold a certain charm in their energy, and she adores them. Rude people also annoy her, as they seem to not care about anybody else. She also has a fear of needles. She calls it self-preservation, because she has no wish to lose her blood to those prickly little tubes with metal poking rods.


History:
Annie had come a long way to move to this small town. She had been born and raised in Bromont, Quebec. It was a place that was both lovely in the summer and a great snowboarding spot in the winter. Because of this, she actually adored the snow, and prefers being cold over being hot. When she was quite young, her parents had divorced, and she lived with her mother. Her mother did not enjoy life in such a touristic town, and wanted somewhere small to settle. Dragging Annie along with her, they moved to a small town named Iron Pass.

She hated it quite a bit, wanting to go back to the snowy hills of Quebec. Here, it barely ever snowed, and she would be unable to do her snowboarding. At first she was resentful towards the other students, as they were happy in this town. Her loneliness overcoming her anger though, she began to be friendlier, even acquiring herself a few friends. She was always one who enjoyed a thrill, which is why she accompanied them to the mines.

Johnny can turn into a cat. A normal, black house cat, as pictured above. Unlike the media portrays, his clothes do not come along for the ride. He cannot change halfway.
Each time Johnny changes, a little more of his cat-self stays behind. It will first be small, indistinguishable things. Little tics, like slowly closing his eyes. If he keeps this up, he might lose all of his human self.
Nationality:
A mix of West European and a smidgen of Native American blood. He is mainly Welsh.
Languages Spoken:
He speaks English fluently and can fake his way through Latin and Spanish.
Looks:
Johnny stands at about 5'9", weight 150 pounds. He appears to be skinnier than he really is because he usually wears black. His is very pale, earning him the nickname "Casper." His hair is black, as well as his eyes (although they are technically dark brown). Even if he tried to tan, he cannot, because if he stays outside for more than twenty minutes without sunscreen he starts to burn. His hair is short and usually kept neat, but the slightest bit of humidity or wing turns it into a spiky mess. He was planning on getting a wide variety of tattoos, and possibly earrings, but before he could set an appointment for his first tattoo, he was trapped in the mines.



Personality:
Johnny has three layers to him; his rich self, his poor self, and his real self. When he was rich, he lived for people. He loved hearing the newest bit of gossip, or who liked who, etc. He was friends with everyone in his class, except for the poor kids. Until his father died, he was a horrid classist.
When his father died, his personality changed entirely. He could still keep up the playful, popular boy act, but it hurts. He wasn't as optimistic and spoiled as before. At first he nearly went crazy from lack of social interaction; the second he fell from his throne his so-called "friends" abandoned him, and some even turned on him, and he became the loser. But after a while he learned to cope with his problems and made some real friends. When he moved to Iron Pass he abandoned his original plan of living life surrounded and stuck to one group.
This is when his personality took a dive from optimism to pessimism and he became the Hyde of the circle. He laughed at the misfortunes of others to hide his own pain. On the inside, he is a very sad boy. He ignores this as much as possible, using whatever he can to hide it; caffeine, laughing at others problems, cynical behavior.
History:
Most people would kill to have Johnny's life. He is the only son of an assistant manager at one of Ford's biggest glass plants. His mother occasionally works as a secretary for various companies; not for money, but just for the experience. For the first twelve years of his life, Johnny lived in rich, gated communities. He always had everything handed to him; money, girls, grades, you name it. On the outside, he was the perfect boy. Other boys envied him, girls wanted him, he was always popular.

But everything changed on his father's forty-seventh birthday. On a regular annual trip to Wales, his nose started bleeding uncontrollably. He was escorted off of the plane before it could take off and diagnosed with leukemia. By then it was already too late. For another year his father lived, only receiving a portion of his normal pay. Once he did die, his mother blamed their misfortunes on his father; their lack of money, why she could not hold down a job, and even the tiniest things, like how the rest of the world pitied them.

Johnny lost everything. His friends? Turns out they only wanted his money, or used him to get up the social ladder. The house was traded in for an apartment in the ghetto. Their money was lost before he could blink. His mother never kept a job for more than two months. From middle school on, he was a loser. He used to hate "strays"--poor kids and kids who had to move a lot--but then he became one. At first that didn't work out for both parties, but he managed.
Likes:
++Music. He played the clarinet for six years.
++Being Alone. He barely trusts people anymore.
++Fire. He loves playing with dangerous things, including homemade firebombs.
++Dark. Once he gets his cat powers, he will like a lack of light.
++Small animals. He used to like having a pet gerbil, but once he gets his powers, he will think of them as delicious snacks.

Dislikes:
--People. How can he trust them?
--Loud places. They always scared him.
--Swimming.
--Large predators. Mostly dogs, but also other things, like bears and big cats.
--Cold places. He would rather live in a desert than a frozen wasteland.
Strengths:
++Being a cat shifter, he can easily shift and fit into small spaces a normal person could not go.
++He collected books on DIY projects; from acid bombs to a crossbow made of stretchy rulers and pencils, if he has the resources, he can Mcgyver up weird little gadgets. As long as he knows what's he's doing. Which isn't very often.
Weaknesses:
--He has a habit of blowing himself up with his gadgets. This will be much worse, since he doesn't have his instruction books at hand.
--He tends to frustrate a lot of people with his snarky, cynical attitude.
