Many, many years ago there was a time when Spirits and Fairies were respected as a sign of good luck. They weren't hunted or scorned as fantasy. They could live in peace. The entire land of Alderia was ruled over by a benevolent King named Bernard. He kelt the peace and made sure everyone had equal rights. But one day King Bernard fell very ill. He had two sons named Capricious and Slake, and a daughter named Malum. Before the King died he did not name a successor. Capricious and Slake each thought they should be King, and soon fell to fighting about it. Malum tried to intercede, but she was seen as unfit for anything but a life of easiness. The two brothers split the Kingdom and separated, leaving the old castle abandoned and empty and unused. Life for the civilians of Alderia soon began to fall into disarray. The two brothers were always fighting. Food was scarce, and life was hard. The Humans began to blame the Mystical Creatures for their plight. They believed that they were withholding their luck from them. The two brothers saw them as a scapegoat and fed these fears and suspicions. Soon Mystical Creatures were hunted, and many were imprisoned and killed. They were forced into hiding.
Malum saw how hard life was for the Mystical Creatures. She hated being so powerless. So Malum used her power and the fact that her brothers ignored her to help. She used the old castle and began to clean it up. Malum made the old castle livable again. Then she began to gather followers. They were everywhere and whenever they would encounter a Mystical Creature in trouble, or anyone in trouble, they would wend them to the castle. Word began to spread among those in poverty that there was a safe haven, if only they could find it. For Malum had strong magic and she surrounded the castle with a powerful enchantment. Only those who were in trouble and needed a place to stay safe could enter. Thus the castle stayed hidden and the brothers knew little of the plot, only that Mystical Creatures were getting harder and harder to find.
Now Malum's Mansion as it has come to be known is a popular tale among the poor in the two kingdoms. It is rumored to be just on the border and to house many in need. Malum lives in each kingdom, and whenever she is traveling stops by the Mansion to make sure all is well. Other then that the only ones there are those who live there. Newcomers arrive often and many are wounded and hungry. Some of the permanent residents are cooks and medics. Some are fighters and guards. Some are just visitors who are resting there before moving on.
For whatever reason you have arrived at Malum's Mansion. You are either a Mystical Creature, or a Human punished by the cruel, unjust laws of the kingdoms. You are either a permanent resident or a visitor. Whatever your reason for being there, you need protection. Will you get along with the others in the Mansion? Will you find friends and family, either new or old? Will you fall in and out of love? The future is bright and open. Where will you go?
