Arabella looked up sharply and made her tears stop falling. "Oh, Maria, it's you," her face softened when she spotted the maid. "I'm sorry, I must not look all that amazing." She looked down and remembered she was still wearing her sister's cloak over her breeches and jacket. No doubt her eyes were red, not only from crying, but from lack of sleep. She moved over on the bench. "Would you like to sit down?" she said, her words still stuttering as she spoke.

"You look fine your majesty." MAria said with a slightly less shy voice. She accepted the princess invitation to sit, deciding it would be rude not to. "Is there anything I can do for you my princess?" She asked with a steady gaze. Arabellas condition seemed to confirm what she had been afraid of, but she knew she should keep a strong presence for the princess sake.

(Maria was part of the staff brought to Avalon, and since the royals have not returned, she is part of the staff that is still there)

"Thank you but," Arabella forced a smile. "I think the only thing I need right now is the only thing I'm not going to get." She looked at the ground, not wanting to meet the maid's gaze. "Maria, have you ever lost someone you were very close to?" she asked, turning her hands over and over staring at them intently. She looked up to the maid and wiped her cheek, which was still wet.

Maria she frowned and thought for a moment. In a way she had lost her mother by running away, as she was certain they would never meet again. The thought made her feel ill so she answered as to get the thought out of her head as soon a s possible. "Yes, I have." She said with sad eyes. Maria felt a mix of pity and empathy towards the Princess

"Then now we have something to talk about," she said, choking back tears again. For every tear she had held back in the past, every moment she'd wanted to cry and break, now was the time she let everything out. Years of Tristan's taunting, arguments with her sister, and her parents not listening to her, topped with the death of her oldest brother, now broke free. After a minute, she looked up at Maria. "I'm sorry, I really shouldn't be doing this right now," she apologized.
