Soot staggered back into the air as the green dragon lashed out. The movement, however, was too slow; a claw raked along her hind leg, and the draclet squawked in pain. A few drops of blood welled from the gash and were kicked off. Doing her best to swallow her fear and pain, Soot nevertheless let out a small whimper. She angled her wings, and rode the buffets of sea air that glanced off of the rocky cliff face, hoping that the larger dragon would perhaps miscalculate and scrape against the wall in its pursuit.

Soot gasped as the larger dragon's head rammed into her from behind, sending her tumbling head over tail. She had fallen several feet before she could regain steady flight. The draclet swooped back upwards. She was aching from her wounds and trembling in fear and exhaustion. Desperately, she threw herself at the green throat scales of the earth dragon, sinking her tiny fangs into the lightly protected skin, hoping to find a junction between two scales.
