It seemed most of his pupils were here, and those who were to be late, well, they would soon attempt to trickle in, only to find out that his doors were locked. Moving round toward the front of his desk, he rapped a pointer stick on the hard surface, a sound that commanded attention.
"Well, now that I've your attentions, I can begin." His green eyes flickered from face to face, holding each gaze with his for a space of a moment before moving on to the next "You are all my students, and I, your instructor. Not your friend. Not your father or mother. Not your sibling, priest, companion, or master." He paced slowly at the front of the room, hands clasped behind him as he enunciated evenly "I have no need for any of you to learn from me or even to pass. I hold no empathy, pity, or compassion for you or your work. Nor will I, as long as you are my student. Off hours, you might find I am more amiable. In class, I am not so."
He paused, allowing his words to sink in as he regarded them all cooly. "You do as you wish. Learn if you wish to learn. Fail if you wish to fail.It is for you to decide. I will provide the instructions and necessary skill applications you will need to learn magic. I will guide you, answer your questions. What you give me, I shall return. Effort for effort."
Here he crossed his arms nonchalantly, standing tall and straight "Otherwise, you will find this class to be most informative and practical, if not fun. You are all to address me as Master or Professor while my pupils. I, in turn, shall strive to learn your names and address you by them."
Here, he gestured to a neat stack of notebooks at his left hand "For your first class, each of you will come up and take a journal, the purposes of which shall become obvious once you all have them."
He waited and, when no one came forth, he raised a brow, unimpressed "Were you perhaps waiting on invitation? Come up and take a journal."
