Alena nodded as she hazarded a second grin, hoping she didn't appear nervous as she disregarded Serenity's glance at her scar. "Serenity? That's a nice name," Alena observed. Her hands clapped together, producing a muffled thud through her thick fur mittens, as the grey-eyed girl mentioned the Passage. "Well I couldn't be more excited, I-" Alena was cut short as another boy bounded ahead, latching himself onto Korbin before parting and joining hands with the two miss-matched boys in a fierce double handshake.
Stifling a giggle, Alena smirked as she caught wind of what they were discussing. Concocting a story? And about bears? She turned to Serenity quickly, tucking her fox-red hair away as she placed her hat firmly atop her head. A fey smile played on Alena's lips, giving her an appearance of one of the fiery red canines before pouncing its prey. "They're telling stories," she explained, the tone of her voice displacing awkwardness with levity, "come on, let's see!"
Without checking to make sure if Serenity would follow, Alena capered her way towards the small congregation. She surprised even herself as she spoke, slightly unsure as to how to address such a large group- or, at least large by her standards, "You're telling a story?" she inquired sounding generally interested, albeit a bit dubious.

    A disappointed frown tugged at the boy's lips, but he braved through let-down, settling himself down on a tree stump, he pulled his knees to his chest in order to stay warm, resting his chin on his knee caps. He raised his eyebrows, his interest piqued,"Bears? I suppose they can be scary, especially a mother bear if you approach her cubs," He shuddered at the memory, remembering himself as a child when he had wandered too far into the woods, and attempted to hug a cute cuddly baby bear, if it hadn't been for the random woodsman who pulled him to safety, Nathan would not be here today. That was one mistake he would not repeat.
    When some girls joined in, he happily piped up,"We're going to tell a scary story that'll make you wet your pants!" He giggled, then added on,"Well, not really, that wouldn't be very nice." He rose a finger, smiling at Korbin,"Will there be gumdrops and rainbows and happy endings involved?" The giddy boy's voice rose to a high pitch near the end of his question.

Moving her eyes back to Alena and away from the boy who was smaller than most but still quite a bit taller than both her and the girl beside her. Her smile faltering Serenity nodded "Thanks, my grandma gave me that name." she said pulling her hat down more so it would cover her ears. As Alena began replying to her question she was interrupted by a boy, who seemed to have something against the quiet peace that the land provided, as he ran up and glommed onto Korbin. Chuckling alongside Alena, Serenity fought to keep her composure, generally she was trying to keep from crying but right now she trying to keep from laughing to hard; in truth she was afraid the boy would hear and would be angry at her, like her parents were the last time she spoke with them. It was a terrible thing to remember and always brought her mood just a little bit lower, however, the next thought that would always come was what her grandmother had told her afterwards 'Your not evil, your special. Not so long ago you would've been considered special, a being who possessed both spirits.' her smile, even though it looked a bit sadder, was still a smile looking at Alena she nodded following quietly. Stopping just behind Alena Serenity seemed to, almost, cower behind her; she didn't know why though, maybe it was because she seemed so much like her except she was a little more sociable.
Glancing between the three boys she noticed that while the two taller boys seemed more...troublesome or hyper, whichever was...well, whatever. Shoulders hunched she seemed even smaller than her real five foot, which to begin with wasn't that tall anyway. She just wanted to disappear and forget all about the Passage and what was going to happen to her and the others along the way.

    Grinning as both the boys agreed with him, Korbin rubbed his mitten-covered hands together in preparation. When Nathan mentioned mother bears, the lad decided they would feature in his story; nothing scarier than an angry mother bear. He himself had never been near one, but his mother would tell stories all the time, about their family facing off many different beasts.

    Nodding in greeting to the two lasses that joined them, he snorted as Nathan exclaimed that the story was going to make them wee their pants and shook his head in laughter. "Not that bad," he chocked out, "Maybe there will be a happy ending, maybe not."

A suggestion of a chuckle bubbled up and out of Ari's lips, and his shoulders shook slightly with repressed laughter. He felt childish, giggling clandestinely about pant-wetting, but, well, it was funny. Casting his eyes in their direction, Ari studied the two girls who had joined in on the conversation, soon after his attempt to go over to them had been thwarted. The girl in the front was positively diminutive, standing at five feet at the most. Her skin was almost as pale as the snow behind it, and large hazel eyes would have dominated her face but for the frankly alarming scar that snaked its way from her right cheekbone to chin. It held a morbid fascination for Ari, and he felt himself burning with curiosity as to its origins. It would be grossly inappropriate to ask, though, so he held his tongue. His gaze then slid to the girl behind her -cowering, almost, as if she were afraid. She was just as short as the girl in front, serving to bolster his meagre confidence in his height. Her skin was a reddish-tan colour, juxtaposed starkly with the other girl. And, though his line of sight was rather obscured, he noticed her eyes were a startling pale grey. Ari wished he had names to put to faces, but they had not introduced themselves to the boys, and he wasn't going to be so overt as to inquire after them.
Glancing over at Korbin, Ari felt a spark of hope ignite in his belly. "Yeah, let's have a happy ending," he pleaded, surprised to hear the words flowing from his mouth. "We don't want bad feelings around this early in the Passage." He fell silent abruptly, feeling heat rising to colour his cheeks despite the cold. Ari was reasonably certain that was the most he had spoken consecutively in the company of strangers since he was a loose-tongued toddler. Averting his eyes to the snow below him, his gloved hands fell from the button they had been toying with, to be shoved in the pockets of his coat.

    He made an immature pouting face, slamming his fist down on the flat surface of the tree stump, like a constipated judge who hates his job, and whined,"Unacceptable. What kind of a story doesn't have a happy ending? There has to be one, Malecki says so." He gestured to the giant raccoon/panda mix animal next to him, but no one seemed to see him, they all gave him an expression of shock and pity, his shoulders sulked and turned so his back was facing them, his nostrils flaring angrily."Fine. I'll just go and make my own story then. Without you!" It could have been that he was overreacting, since his brain didn't rationalize the way others do, it blew things out of proportion, and made the tiniest insult like a knife in his heart.
    The young man stood and kicked at a rock, but ended up stubbing his toe, he painfully clutched his foot, hopping up and down, squinting his eyes to block to pain. Then attempted to regain his dignity, glaring at them over his shoulder, and breaking into a limping run for the woods,"Last one to the Winter Home is a pickled goose head!" He hollered, barely noticing the tree trunk he was moving towards before running face-first into it.

Feeling someone's stare Serenity glanced at the boy, he was shorter than the others but he was still taller than her...in fact Alena was the only other person outside her family who seemed to be stuck at five feet. The shorter boy had pale skin that brought out his brown eyes and hair, the colour somehow reminded her of the bark of a tree, realizing that she'd stated long enough Serenity looked away her eyes flashing with curiosity. Opening her mouth Serenity tried to force an introduction out but once again, her throat closed preventing the words from escaping. Shutting her mouth Serenity looked away and studied the ground, she couldn't, she just couldn't speak up even if it was to just tell then that her name was Serenity. Instead she listened as the shorter boy pleaded in favour for a happy ending -What kind of scary story ends happy though?- she thought to herself smiling softly. If it had been any other kind of story Serenity would've raised her hand to vote for a happy ending as well; so many legends had sad endings that were meant to teach you something. Sedna the Sea Witch was a good example her father frustrated and angry married Sedna off to the first man who asked and as a result Sedna suffered at the hands of a storm petrel and for many months lived out a miserable existence. The story ended when her father tried to help her escape but, for fear of loosing his own life sacrificed Sedna to the sea, and there she remains selfishly guarding the creatures there because of the hatred she bears for humans. It was sad really, so many wrongs done to her and because of that the Ssael have been punished.
Coming back to what was happening Serenity looked up as one of the taller boys began whining about the happy ending issue; who was Malecki though? Looking down to where he was pointing she frowned when she realized there was nothing there. Shrinking away from his angry glare Serenity followed his movement as he first stubbed his toe and then- while limping away- ran face first into a tree. Gasping quietly Serenity ran over looking down at him with concerned grey eyes "I-uh, are you alright?" she asked trying to asses the damage from where she was.

I just have a question about the guardians, when will they begin to arrive and such?}}
