Alex raised an eyebrow, noticing his companion's expression, but said nothing. He watched her blush, then check her phone. Then she smiled. His lips turned downward. He knew what a fake smile looked like; he himself had used them far too often. Her smile might have fooled others, but not Alex. He could read people too well. "Grace, what's wrong?" He got up off the bike and took her hand. "Are you okay?" Worry and kindness filled his voice. He himself was surprised at the feelings of worry this girl cause him. He was worried whether she was happy or not. Truely, this girl should never be upset or sad, he thought. She's to beautiful to be frowning or crying. Seeing Grace fake a smile made Alex hurt inside. He didn't know why, but it did.

Grace blinked as he took her hand, looking down at it as if she'd only just realised he had a hand. The smile wavered slightly at his expression and tone of voice before returning, stronger. It just looked even more fake. "Yep, I'm fine." She replied, frowning slightly in an almost mocking way. "Why wouldn't I be?" She tucked her dark hair behind her ear and tried to slide her hand from his grip. She quickly slid the phone into her jeans pocket.

Alex dropped his hand and stepped back. There was almost three feet between them now. Alex shoved his hair from his face and stared at the groud, feeling hurt. "Nothing..." He bit his lip, then said: "What street do you live on? I'll go and drop you off." He got on the bike and started it up.

Grace looked at the ground awkwardly as he stepped away, her smile fading as she realised what she had done. She pulled a hairtie from her pocket and quickly knotted her long hair into a tight bun on top of her head, simply for something to do. It also temporarily hid her expression from him as she tried to figure out what was going on in her head. "It's okay, I only live a few minutes away from here.. I can walk." She replied quietly, looking slightly apologetic as she spoke.

Alex shook his head furiously and reevved his bike again. "No. I drove you here, I'll drive you to your house. I may be an *ss, but I can still act like a gentleman." His tone was spiteful. His eyes flicked up to the Diner window. Sallie stood there. Seeing that her grandson was looking at her, she waved at him. Alex gave his Gram a smile, then glanced at Grace. "Besides, if Gram saw you walking away from me, I'd get a good scolding."

Grace took a slight step back at his reaction, her eyes widening slightly in panic. "N-no, really, I.. I can't.." She stammered, her eyes flitting between Alex and Sallie. "I mean.. Thank you, but I really.." She swallowed hard, unable to look him in the eye so instead focusing on the ground. "Thank you for taking me here, but I really need to go now." Grace turned away from him slightly.
