Alex nodded. "I think so. I'm pretty sure. If I can make myself normal again you will make it so I don't have to go back to my parents when I get out of here. Right?" She looked at him and sighed. She knew that she wanted to be normal again but she didn't know if she was ready to go back to the real world. She didn't know what to say to people much less how to act around them. "Ezra, how am I supposed to learn to cope again? How will I know how to act and how to talk to regular people?"

{Lol, no problem. Happens to me all the time.}
"You don't have to worry about that; I'll help you through this all the way. But you're going to have to learn to trust me and my judgement; I'm here to help you. And I've done this before." Ezra gave Alex a reassuring smile, pushing himself up to his feet. "And to start - no more knife."

Ezra stood silent for a few moments before giving Alex a morose smile. "Only for a while," he said quietly. Ezra looked off into space for a minute or two, as if trapped within his own thoughts. He soon snapped back to the present, and began to pace about the room. "Secondly, Alex, what have you eaten today?" he queried.

After a few minutes of searching, Joke found some wooden beams that appeared to have fallen from the roof. He looked up nervously, worrying about how unstable the roof of the mill looked, and wanted to move away as quick as possible. He grabbed a few small beams, making sure they were dry, before heading back to Mortimer. "Found some dry wood, but the roof above it looks really unstable." He told Mortimer, turning to leave again. He paused, wondering if he should go outside to find some leaves. They needed the leaves to make the fire, but... what if there were any guards nearby? They'd probably spot him if he went out.

{Lol, I'm not worried. ^^}
Mortimer looked up at the ceiling after Joke spoke, as if he might see this instability. They didn't have much of a choice he supposed; what was it that his mother would tell him, when he was alive? Beggars can't be choosers. Well, if the mill had stood this long without collapsing, perhaps it would stand for them throughout one more night. Or however long they did stay. Patting the Doberman gently on the head, Mortimer stood and began to lug the great cracked spool out of the mill and to the stream. He had quite a lot of trouble getting it through the broken door, and had to kick a few more sections out before he managed. Once Mortimer had gotten to the stream, the Darkness was fogging up his vision and his legs were wobbly, and though he was not aware of it, Mortimer was sweating profusely. Wheezing slightly, Mortimer dipped the cracked cylinder into the murky stream water.

Waiting for a few seconds after Mortimer went outside, Joke decided it was safe, and head out to collect some leaves. He looked around at the trees, hoping to collect most of the leaves from the ground. He set about picking up what he needed, forgetting the reason for the task as he examined each leaf, making sure he left the healthiest ones alone. He came to a stop, looking at the tree in front of him. It was small and thin, looking like it had been drained of life. Smiling to himself, Joke took a few colourful leaves from the ground, putting them on the end of each thin branch of the tree, decorating it. "You look better now." Joke told the tree, his voice quiet. "You suit those colours."
((... O.O I never thought I'd have one of my characters talk to a tree.))

{Lol, it is quite an unforeseen predicament. XD Gah! I just realized their hands are still supposed to be bound. Oops. Oh well, how about we just say Mortimer managed to free himself and then set Joke free when they arrived at the mill. X3}
As Mortimer tipped the cylinder sideways and waited for the cloudy water to filter in, he cocked his head and listened. There were forest sounds: chickadees calling and ravens crowing. Wind made the dry leaves and branches whisper, and the occasional crack came from a scurrying squirrel or such. But for the moment, there were no human noises, though this only served to make Mortimer more tense. Nothing is more frightening than something you cannot predict. While Mortimer was squatting by the stream, he took the time to take notice of the pistol he had stowed into his pocket. It was digging into his hip now, and he released one hand from his make-shift pot to tug it free from his jeans. The gun felt heavy and cold in his fingers. Mortimer was struck by an impulse to toss the wicked thing into the water, but what if a guard found it? Mortimer put the gun down on the ground and hauled the cylinder upright, grunting with the effort. Picking up the gun again, Mortimer made a valiant attempt to lug the water-filled spool back to the mill, but it was like carrying a bag of bricks. Mortimer made it to the door and had to stop, falling down on one knee and panting vigorously. This would be a hard trip to make on his own.
Ezra nodded. "Alright. If you're going to make an attempt to get better, the first step is to make new habits. It doesn't really matter right now if you become obsessive over them; the point is to change your old ones. Starting with regular meals." Ezra pushed back the sleeve of his nurse shift and glanced at his watch. "It's about half and hour past two now, so you're more than due for lunch. What would you like from the cafeteria?"
