-FLASH BACK!-
"Altair! Altair! Come out from wherever you're hiding! Rafiq told us to go inside the castle gates!" Malik's calls entered the ears of a small boy, not older than 10, hiding in a hay cart. He couldn't believe Malik hadn't looked inside; didn't he know that all assassins hide in hay? Guess not. And his stupid methods of trying to get him to come out of hiding. How pathetic. Altair clutched his wooden practice sword in waiting. He had to be coming soon. He was getting itchy and all this hay was getting stuck to his hair.
"Altair! Hurry! Come on, the gates are closing!" Malik called and Altair heard the panic in his brother's voice. He was really scared to lose wasn't he? Malik must have been close because Altair heard his small footsteps bolting towards the castle. Altair poked his head from the hay and opened his mouth to call out to Malik but he couldn't find his voice. the gate really was closing and Malik had just slid under in time. Great, now I'm going to miss a drill. Rafiq won't be happpy about that one. He turned his head to hide back into the hay and froze. A group of armored Templars was approaching and their bald leader was instantly recognized in Altair's mind. Antiono Zaheed. He led the Templars at the head and he never left his castle except to fight, or negotiate but Altair doubted he was planning on that today. They had their swords unsheathed and the guards behind him chased away the civilians who were walking by and they screamed, running into their shacks.Altair ducked into the hay put peered through the some openings and watched them march by hearing their grunts and he could touch their chain mail should he have reached out. Had he been older he would have killed Antonio right there, but as a boy he had been to afraid.
They reached the castle gate and were met by a few of the guards, all who were actually assassins. The Templars knew this though, and weren't going to fall for any tricks.
"Templars coming out of their holes to come and pick a fight? Can you believe this?" One of the guards taunted. A Templar spit at him from below. Altair reached to his boot, puling out a silver dagger. Rafiq had bestowed it to him early on and Altair remembered that as the first indication that he was a special one of the group. No other boy in the group had a dagger or anything metal whatsoever. Altair slipped from the hay cart and jumped onto the window above on the house it was resting against. He slipped up the wall like a lizard, and sat on the roof.
"If Rafiq refuses to listen, we refuse to relent!" He heard Antonio call, answered by the roar of his band of guards. They charged forward and Altair gasped as the gates opened to the castle. A traitor! An assassin guard rushed them inside and soon the clang of metal rang into the afternoon sky. Altair looked towards the gate of his city and coming down the hillside was a much larger troop of Templars and judging by the quailty of their clothes, they were good at fighting. He inhaled deeply, using the technique Rafiq had recently taught him. The sky was darkening and Altair's Eagle Vision took over. the faintest glow emitted from the enemies but it had gotten bette since Altair had been practicing. He jumped from teh roof and sped towards the gate. He had a long way to run, but she was confident he could reach the gate in time.
He sprinted down the slope that lead to the gate just as the Templars appeared. Altair leapt for the switch, Rafiq had invented a kind of metal thing atht shut the doors with a pull of a stick! Or so that's what they said. He landed on the stick with all his weight and it just barely budged. he heaved downward and slowly the gate started closing. He gritted his teeth and shoved harder as he heard the Templars come for the gate at running speed, seeing as it was closing. The gate slammed shut just in time but Altair's eyes widened. A Figure with a red Templar helmet was panting heavily, he must have just slid under the gate in time. Altair held his blade as he practiced and called out; "Hey you! Templar scum!" The Templar started to laugh at teh sight of a child picking a fight with him.
"As you wish." he grumbled and Altair narrowed his eyes. the Templar lifted his mace and ran at him and swung, Altair sliding to the rigt just in time. I'm going to have to dodge, I can't counter him with a shortblade. The Templar swung wildly and Altair felt the air rush past his face as the mace barely missed. Altair jumped back to avoid the next blow and got the impression that this Templar was a bit drunk. He was still an impressive fighter for a drunkard. Altair swung his dagger and caught the Templar's arm as he swung again.
"You'll die for that!" The Templar swore at him and Altair felt the cold stone of a wall behind him. The mace swung into the air towards him and Altair prepared for the skull-crushing impact that was sure to hit him. Instead the deafening crack sounded from just in front of him and a heavy weight slammed Altair onto the ground. Wet thick liquid flooded onto Altair's hands and face and he recognized the smell. Blood. A lifeless body lay on him now and Altair scrambled from beneath it. Death was no stranger to him he had experienced the executions of thieves and other in the city, but when Altair turned to face the Templar the fear left him. An arrow had pierced the helmet and he looked back to see that face.
"Wait! But--"
-END FLASHBACK-
Altair clenched his hands into fists, his eyes blazing with a burning fire so intense he could almost feel it burning him. HIs wrist blade slid out and the sound snapped him form his memory. He looked at Ezio, half expecting him to be lying on the ground, drowning in his own blood. He breathed deeply as Ezio was still alive and well. I can't let anything like that ever happen to him.
"(The things that I've loved the things that I've lost
The things I've held sacred that I've dropped
I won't lie no more you can bet
I don't want to learn what I'll need to forget
I like throwing my voice and breaking guitars
Cause it doesn't remind me of anything
I like playing in the sand what's mine is ours
If it doesn't remind me of anything)"
