For his part, Hank was very confused, but also ready to do anything for this new kid. Whatever, he'd just get this off quickly, like a bandaid. "
So, uhh, first we have a snowstorm inside of camp." He started, his words tumbling out in a rush. "
Then Vivienne shows up with who knows what in the middle of capture the flag, and now the Big House has fallen and people have died. " He said, pausing to take a breath, just enough to hold the tears back. "
If we're going t' die here, I migh' as well have stayed at home and waited on a monster." He turned his gaze back to Niji. "
Oh, and now I have a camper who's on death's doorstep, but insists on putting me through riddles to get help." His voice came out sharper than usual, and he checked himself, letting out a sigh and offering Niji an apologetic smile.
"
How about you get in there, then I only have to wor-" He started, but was cut off by an approaching hunter.
Laika. She was berating him, calling him dumb.
Gods, does everyone think I'm an idiot? You invite a monster to tea, one time and they think you're stupid. He blinked back the tears that pricked at his eyes and stood at attention. He looked her dead in the eyes, channeling all his energy toward keeping himself still.
My gods, does she ever, like, SHUT UP? He wondered, barely containing himself. Amazingly, he lasted until the end of her exhaustive rant.
"
Excuse me Ma'am, but is it not in everyone's best interest to do anything necessary to get an injured camper medical care? Or is it more fashionable to just let the injured die where you come from? As someone who's has spent years with horses, I know that horses regularly bend their necks down of their own accord, and this won't hurt her. As someone who's in his 6th summer at Camp Half-Blood, I can assure you that nothing here is done to New York code. And finally, as someone who is concerned for the wellbeing of those at camp, I ask you to kindly remove your pheromone heavy stallion from Ji-ji's mare at once." He said in a rush, before turning to Niji. "
Did I miss anything?" He asked.

Ophelia flashed Mira a dark grin and brushed her butterfly pendant with a hand.
I'd like to see them try to prove it. But Mira was already outside the door, and Ophelia trailed after her...at least, she meant to. There were a lot of people in the center of the cabins, gathered around a black flame like they were practicing some ancient ritual. She frowned, still holding onto the door handle, and that's when the waves of emotion hit her.
Owwwwwww!! One unending stream of misery. Her heart was beating a fast tatoo, she stumbled, pulling the door closed as she did, then leaning into it for support. He headache had returned with a vengence, and she had to bite her cheeks to halt the tears.
What the hellhounds happened here. She wondered, pressing her aching head into the cold door. She pulled herself up, barely, and limped toward a random camper. She couldn't even make out their face, but she held to their shoulders with a death grip.
"
What. Happened. Here?" She asked, he words punctuated by her shaking voice. She didn't know why,
but it hurt like hell.Agatha "Aggy" Clemson | 15 | She/her | Unknown (Ares)/Cabin 11| Location: Center of Cabins with fire | tags: Jamie, other kids at campfire, open | mentions:
She kept rocking, the steady movement grounding her to reality.
What I am supposed to send in my letter to mom? Hey mom, you know the place you sent me to be safe? Twenty kids died on the first day. Crazy, huh? So anyway, toodles and all that, I'm doing just fine! She shook her head and swiped a soggy sleeve over her face.
Will this day ever end? She wondered briefly, before her thoughts rambled back to the dead campers.
Jack "Reese" Dawson | 17 | Hades/Cabin 13 | Location: campfire | tags: Open! campfire group | mentions: Aggy, Orin, Auggie
Reese, for his part, was quite calm despite the dire situation.
I mean, it's death and all, but what did they expect? Darling, we are Halfbloods, we should not exist, so the world finds ways of exterminating us. He didn't mean to be cold, but he had long accepted death as being a fate that would come to him sooner rather than later. Still, the other campers nerves put him on guard. He watched someone, probably a new camper, rock her weight back and forth as tears rolled down her cheeks.
His face remained stoic, despite his best efforts to coax out a tear or two, something to show that he was one of them, that he was human. He felt dull. Not angry. Not broken. Just tired of camp, tired of himself, tired of who he was carved out to be.
He stepped back from the fire, far enough back to take in the whole chaotic scene. And it was certainly something. He watched a crying Zeus kid being comforted by some of his friends.
Huh, Auggie has friends. I should ask about him sometime. He told himself, tuning in to watch them from the corner of his eye.
