Augusta Reynolds|17|she/her|Hades|Head counsellor|Campfire|tags:Orin, Laurel

Auggie finally turned to look at Orin as he began repeating himself nonsensically, seeming to be struggling to get his words out...for once. She listened to his spiel with a mild expression, looking thoroughly unimpressed. She stared at him for a moment after he revealed his brilliant plan, frozen in the inability to decide if it really was smart or not. Then she sighed and turned her head back to the fire. “Genius,” She muttered sarcastically. “That’s very profound of you.”

As idiotic as it was, she kind of understood. It was easier to feel a physical pain than something else, something deeper and harder to heal than a simple wound—or minor head trauma. It would’ve been easier to block everything out, to forget everything that had happened in favour of blissful ignorance, but that wasn’t possible. She couldn’t blame Orin for preferring a bleeding scalp over facing the reality of what had happened, but it’s not like that was really going to help anyone, including himself. “If you die, I’ll kill you.” She settled on finally, uncomfortably thinking it was probably the nicest thing she’d ever threatened.

Auggie glanced over at Laurel and rolled her eyes, partially at the stubborn son of Zeus, partially at the girl for asking a question with such an obvious answer. She turned back to the dismal looking fire, eyes locked on the pathetic flames as if that could distract her. She sat with her body pulled in, taking up the least amount of room possible, as if by compacting her frame she could just will herself into non-existence. She could disappear, that actually wouldn’t be too difficult in the shadowy cover of darkness, but that wouldn’t do anything to make the feelings of fear and sadness go away. She’d just be sad, afraid and invisible.

“Another brilliant idea,” she muttered in response to the suggestion of whacking chronos over the head. “I’m sure that’d fix everything.”

if only i could keep you in my pocket
to give me some diagnosis of why i'm so hollow
please give me instructions, i promise i'll follow
i tripped on my ankle and fractured my elbow
but doesn't that mean that the tour's gonna sell, though?
i try to explain the good faith that's been wasted
but after an hour, it sounds like complaining
wait, don't go away, can i lie here forever?
you say that i'm better, why don't i feel better?
the universe works in mysterious ways
but i'm starting to think it ain't working for me
doctor, should i be good, should i be good this year?

Cass walked around making sure all of her cabinmates were heading to the campfire. She headed up to the Hermes Cabin to see if there were any stragglers and to grab a warmer jacket since all that she was wearing was a t-shirt, flannel, and jeans. As Cass entered the cabin she saw that a few of her cabinmates had the same idea as her, Cass gave them a small nod as she entered before heading over to her bunk and getting her black winter jacket. She waited until her camper left before looking around the cabin once more and heading down to the fire. She glanced at the fire not particularly surprised at the color since it had been a cruddy day overall she sat down in her section with a sigh rubbing her temple with her middle and index finger just wanting the day to over.

"yeah, it's the greek god in me. makes me all philosophical. that plato, he did a real number on how i felt about the whole facts of being alive." he muttered.

"do you think they'd let me die? i'm the jester in the king's court. bouncing around, playing pin the tail on the damned donkey. for the gods. and for the camp," he scrunched up his nose at the thought. "i am the heart and the aorta and the - and the ventricles of this place. least, that's what i'll keep telling myself."

orin raised his eyebrows at laurel when she spoke, pained as it made him to do, and shook his head. "call me 'little' again and i don't think you'll be worrying about my wellbeing so much as your own," he said, though the words held no weight. just fathomless syllables, empty threats that amounted to nothing more than dust in the wake of all that had occurred. he was tired. that was certain. he didn't think he had it in him to keep up the charade for very much longer.

"a good swing, i think he'd forget a few minutes here and there," he said, voice quiet. thoughts had amalgamated, and they were pushing themselves to the forefront of his mind. "i could've been - i could've been on a plane to cork right now. weepy about my nan and nothing else. i wouldn't have even known all this would've happened. would've come back and been ashamed of it, but i don't know whether it's worse than this." it was a very rare moment of introspection. "and then i stayed because i thought i was needed. but i don't - i'm not. i stayed in case of a disaster, and then there was a disaster. seems like poor planning." despite himself, he felt tears well in his eyes, hastily brushed away by his knuckle. "sorry."

Laika looked on, amused, as the boy spluttered about. “Yes indeed, we are building a maple syrup empire.” she said dryly, smirking. “Now hurry back to your cabinmates - it seems someone wants a bite of you.” She gestured towards Frollo, a large hunting dog. He was snarling softly, teeth bared at the camper. Before she could say anything else, movement from the Apollo cabin caught her eye. She briefly turned to look. “What the hell-” Laika muttered. “It seems that another camper has been officially diagnosed with the condition of ‘idiot’. Excuse me,” she said, and steered a galloping Loverboy away from the surprised boy. As she neared, she saw that the newly-deemed idiot was Hank. He was looking a horse up and over, finicking with the saddle and nudging it’s neck down, trying to fit it into the cabin. As he tried a new combination, he pulled the horse gently towards the entrance, but each time, it wouldn’t fit. And she had thought that he had some sort of sense. “There’s a very useful thing called ‘common sense’.” she said, saying the word as if it were foreign. “I was wondering if you heard of it? Have you got any? Seems to me you’re rather deficient.” Her tone turning serious, she eyed the poor horse up and down. Loverboy was curiously sniffing the other horse, seemingly a mare. He was flicking his tail gracefully, and raising his head high, though his eyes were looking down at her playfully. His hooves were kneading the ground, his leg muscles rippling. “Loverboy, you can’t have her. You already have a horse wife, don’t cheat. The stallion lowered his neck and sighed. “Anyways, look, you can’t stuff the poor horse in there. Very obviously, there is a thing called size. If you put the horse directly in front of the entrance, you can see she’s a whole half-neck too tall. And don’t even try to make her duck her head down, it’ll be sore all day. Trust me, horse chiropractic is expensive. What’s the point, even? What would the horse do in there aside from make a mess and violate New York health codes?”

"Aiden!" He could've been a bit more subtle about it, but the realization hit Will out of nowhere. He'd been away from camp for three summers now. That was three years Aiden had been bottling everything up, and he could only imagine what having people die would do to the poor boy. He shouldn't be going through this. Not again.

Wilhelm recalled the camp event five years ago; he and Aiden had become friends the summer before, and it was Will's second year and Aiden's third. Aiden was so excited to participate in his first camp event, and better still, the Athena and Hephaestus cabins were on the same team. "Aiden!" Will shouted to get his attention, the small boy skidding to a halt as he rushed by the forge. "Before you go get lost in the armory, take this with you." He thrust a duffle bag into Aiden's hand. The ten-year-old gave Will a bewildered look. "What is this for?" Will tugged on the drawstring, causing the shield to transform and drag Aiden to the ground. Will repressed a chuckle. "Take that shield with you, eh? You may not always need a weapon, but definitely never go without a shield." Aiden took that shield with him when he went charging into the fray, his battle cries rivaling that of the opposing Ares and Nike cabins. He was safe, but not everyone was so lucky that day. Like the rest of the camp, he took Audra's death pretty hard, despite not really knowing her. Will ended up becoming the boy's comfort space from then on.

"Aiden!" Will called again, searching for the Athena head counselor's face in the crowd as he approached the vibrantly black campfire. He didn't spot him, but there were... a lot of campers he didn't recognize, to say the least. Three years had certainly taken their toll. "Have any of y'all seen Aiden around?" he asked, slightly out of breath from the brisk jog in the freezing weather. " 'bout yea high, can't miss 'im. Y'all probably know better than I."

The eerie black campfire was only a result of the unease, not the cause. She gazed all across the grim, snow ridden camp, having difficulty swallowing the pit in her throat. At first, she thought maybe the kids outside the Big House were making snow angels, but she was quick to realize that assumption was very, very wrong. Lucy's step even lost its distinctive skip as she made her way down the hill, hands almost frozen to her suitcase. A girl about her age came to greet her and Wilhelm, though the Hephaestus camper was already long gone. "I take it you just arrived?" Lucy recognized her voice: Skylar Kakitid, head counselor of the Hecate cabin. Lucy didn't know her too well, given that she tended to keep her distance from the Hecate campers as a whole (they weren't easy to manipulate, as you could imagine). At the offer of finding something warm, Lucy nodded her head, trying to keep her teeth from chattering. "What happened here? Was all of this today?" She'd been away from New York for the last week, her mother brought her along when they went down to Atlanta. The snow started up right around the same time she arrived, but she could only guess it'd become a full-blown blizzard while she and Will were in the Grey Sisters' taxi. "I can see the Big House collapsed, but..."

𝚐𝚒𝚟𝚎, 𝚋𝚞𝚝 𝚐𝚒𝚟𝚎 𝚞𝚗𝚝𝚒𝚕 𝚒𝚝 𝚑𝚞𝚛𝚝𝚜
Caleb was just as relieved to hear Aiden wasn't caught in the disaster, but it seemed they both shared the same concern for the rest of their cabinmates. "I'm doing fine, but no I haven't seen anyone else. Kade and Cres are still unaccounted for." He glanced around the thinning crowd, but neglected to look down for obvious reasons. Come on, where are those two hiding? Aiden wasn't sure what he'd do if either of them were one of the victims of the house collapse; already, he felt as though he'd come to a tipping point. "Come on," he motioned for Caleb to stick closer to him so they could find the other two campers. As they walked, Aiden coined a question to his fellow cabinmate. "What do you think about all this?" Perhaps a little too loaded, so Aiden chopped it up in his follow-up. "All this snow out of nowhere, the venti attacking during Capture the Flag. It was clearly intentional, while... this, the house, was just another casualty. Regardless, someone's got a bone to pick with Camp Half-Blood." Aiden beat around the bush for the first few beats, but his fist tightened around the Celestial Bronze paintbrush in his pocket. "There's a quest leaving tomorrow morning, we got a prophecy at that meeting we had at lunch. I... I think I'm going to go on it." Originally, he felt very uncertain about the idea of leaving camp, especially on a quest he might not come back from. Now that eighteen campers, eighteen of his divine kin in one way or another were killed in such a disrespectful manner, he felt responsible to make the push. It was the least he could do for them. "And I want you to serve as the Athena head counselor in my place."

Draco mentally went over the lines he had planned out before hand hoping that it would be a sufficient enough explanation.

Niji turned at the sound of galloping hooves and a woman's voice.

"Hi." He mumbled shyly.
"I made him she's my anxiety animal." Niji said looking down at his shoes his face quickly turning a bright

Niji turned to Hank and whispered "Who is she? Is she one of Artemis'?"

Niji glanced at the woman's horse.
"She isn't interested sir, so please don't." Niji said politely.

Niji frowned at the woman calling Hank an idiot.
"It's my fault, so please don't blame him." Niji said whilst glaring up at her.

Henry "Hank" Walker | 17 | He/him | Apollo/Cabin 7 Head Counselor | Location: outside Cabin 7 | tags: Niji, Laika, open! | mentions:

For his part, Hank was very confused, but also ready to do anything for this new kid. Whatever, he'd just get this off quickly, like a bandaid. "So, uhh, first we have a snowstorm inside of camp." He started, his words tumbling out in a rush. "Then Vivienne shows up with who knows what in the middle of capture the flag, and now the Big House has fallen and people have died. " He said, pausing to take a breath, just enough to hold the tears back. "If we're going t' die here, I migh' as well have stayed at home and waited on a monster." He turned his gaze back to Niji. "Oh, and now I have a camper who's on death's doorstep, but insists on putting me through riddles to get help." His voice came out sharper than usual, and he checked himself, letting out a sigh and offering Niji an apologetic smile.

"How about you get in there, then I only have to wor-" He started, but was cut off by an approaching hunter. Laika.

She was berating him, calling him dumb. Gods, does everyone think I'm an idiot? You invite a monster to tea, one time and they think you're stupid. He blinked back the tears that pricked at his eyes and stood at attention. He looked her dead in the eyes, channeling all his energy toward keeping himself still. My gods, does she ever, like, SHUT UP? He wondered, barely containing himself. Amazingly, he lasted until the end of her exhaustive rant.

"Excuse me Ma'am, but is it not in everyone's best interest to do anything necessary to get an injured camper medical care? Or is it more fashionable to just let the injured die where you come from? As someone who's has spent years with horses, I know that horses regularly bend their necks down of their own accord, and this won't hurt her. As someone who's in his 6th summer at Camp Half-Blood, I can assure you that nothing here is done to New York code. And finally, as someone who is concerned for the wellbeing of those at camp, I ask you to kindly remove your pheromone heavy stallion from Ji-ji's mare at once." He said in a rush, before turning to Niji. "Did I miss anything?" He asked.

Ophelia Rogers | 16 | She/her | Aphrodite/Cabin 10 | Location: Outside Cabin 10/campfire | tags: Mirabelle--> open! | mentions:

Ophelia flashed Mira a dark grin and brushed her butterfly pendant with a hand. I'd like to see them try to prove it. But Mira was already outside the door, and Ophelia trailed after her...at least, she meant to. There were a lot of people in the center of the cabins, gathered around a black flame like they were practicing some ancient ritual. She frowned, still holding onto the door handle, and that's when the waves of emotion hit her.

Owwwwwww!! One unending stream of misery. Her heart was beating a fast tatoo, she stumbled, pulling the door closed as she did, then leaning into it for support. He headache had returned with a vengence, and she had to bite her cheeks to halt the tears. What the hellhounds happened here. She wondered, pressing her aching head into the cold door. She pulled herself up, barely, and limped toward a random camper. She couldn't even make out their face, but she held to their shoulders with a death grip.

"What. Happened. Here?" She asked, he words punctuated by her shaking voice. She didn't know why, but it hurt like hell.

Agatha "Aggy" Clemson | 15 | She/her | Unknown (Ares)/Cabin 11| Location: Center of Cabins with fire | tags: Jamie, other kids at campfire, open | mentions:

She kept rocking, the steady movement grounding her to reality. What I am supposed to send in my letter to mom? Hey mom, you know the place you sent me to be safe? Twenty kids died on the first day. Crazy, huh? So anyway, toodles and all that, I'm doing just fine! She shook her head and swiped a soggy sleeve over her face. Will this day ever end? She wondered briefly, before her thoughts rambled back to the dead campers.

Jack "Reese" Dawson | 17 | Hades/Cabin 13 | Location: campfire | tags: Open! campfire group | mentions: Aggy, Orin, Auggie

Reese, for his part, was quite calm despite the dire situation. I mean, it's death and all, but what did they expect? Darling, we are Halfbloods, we should not exist, so the world finds ways of exterminating us. He didn't mean to be cold, but he had long accepted death as being a fate that would come to him sooner rather than later. Still, the other campers nerves put him on guard. He watched someone, probably a new camper, rock her weight back and forth as tears rolled down her cheeks.

His face remained stoic, despite his best efforts to coax out a tear or two, something to show that he was one of them, that he was human. He felt dull. Not angry. Not broken. Just tired of camp, tired of himself, tired of who he was carved out to be.

He stepped back from the fire, far enough back to take in the whole chaotic scene. And it was certainly something. He watched a crying Zeus kid being comforted by some of his friends. Huh, Auggie has friends. I should ask about him sometime. He told himself, tuning in to watch them from the corner of his eye.

Niji stared at Hank slowly processing the new information.
"So... this wasn't on purpose? Who's Vivienme?"
Niji looked at Hank a frown on his face when he realized he was upset.
Niji hugged Hank and glared at the woman before returning Hank's smile with his own.

"No you didn't miss anything."
Niji lowered his voice to where only Hank could hear and said "I'm proud it takes guts to stand up to a idiot that happens to be a hunter as well."
Niji hugged Hank a bit tighter as if the tighter the hug the better it would protect Hank from this rude hunter before giving, what seemed to Niji, a glare that could've sent her to Tartarus.

"You're pretty rude for someone that has all of eternity to think over what she's done. Just because Hank isn't a conceited, big headed, horribly balanced, jerk that Artemis has the misfortune to call a Hunter doesn't make you better than him." Niji spat.

Aydan Tags: Ophelia Location: Outside Cabin 10

Aydan assumed he was free to go since nothing was bothering him except for a slight manageable headache. He got up and left Apollo's cabin, he made it as far as cabin 10 when all the sudden someone grabbed hold of him. "Ow." he said roughly as he pulled out of her grip. The girl looked like she needed help but he didn't know her and she had just locked down on his shoulders. She also looked more confused than him "How in the underworld am I supposed to know? I just woke up." he said in the same sour tone as before.
