Adonai
Adonai wakes at the touch of hands upon his shoulders. His eyes fly open as he is shaken violently. Adonai smacks the hands from him.
"How dare you touch me! Do you know-" Adonai stops, recognizing the healer's apprentice.
"What?" The apprentice's face betrays his urgency.
"Come quick its Lefou." At the sound of his mentor's name, Adonai springs to his feet, bolting out of the hut past the apprentice. He forces his way through a small group gathered outside of Lefou's hut. What has that old man done to himself now? Adonai darts into the hut. Seeing the healer he bolts forward, panic in his voice.
"Where is he?" The healer gestures softly towards the back room. Adonai enters to find Lefou resting against a wall.
"What did you do this time? You should know better than to scare me like this. Remember what happened last time?" Last time, Lefou had tripped and hit his head. The apprentice had rushed to Adonai and told him that Lefou was in grave danger. Of course Adonai rushed to his mentor's aid only to find him making a small snack. The apprentice had a sore tuckus for weeks. Adonai smiles at the memory. His smile passes as Lefou doesn't make an observation and scold him. In fact the man doesn't move at all. He just sits their perfectly still, his body not even betraying his breathing. Adonai draws closer to the stoic man, fear gnawing at his stomach as he draws his face within an inch of the man's. Lefou's arm shoots forward, grabbing the boy by the nape of his neck.
"Didn't I teach you not to stare?" Lefou stifles a cough as he laughs at the startled look on Adonai's face. The healer walks in behind Adonai.
"Now Lefou, release the poor boy before you give him a heart attack and we have a true emergency." Lefou releases his grip and pats Adonai on the back.
"Come now. This is the mighty and fearless Adonai. Not even his mentor's death would phase him. Relax, I may be old but there is still much life left in me." Adonai releases the breath he has been holding. Thank the wood.
"Me scared? Never. I was only worried that I would have to clean this old coots house again. Now thats a scary task even for me." Smiling once more, relieved so much that he can't help but be happy.
"So if there is no emergency, why did you wake me in the middle of the night?" Lefou's gaze hardens at the boy's question, his eyes meets those of the healer.
"We have a task that requires some persons of skill. We would send some of the older members but their absence would cause alarm. Besides, I doubt Raena would work as well with any other. More will be said but it is mother Matb who shall tell it. She should be along shortly." Lefou hums softly and the healer sits patiently. Adonai really wishes they hadn't woken him until the mother was there at least.
