Ian and Ife looked at Brody dumbfounded as he described the climbing wall. "Do people really get killed on that thing?!" Ife whispered in horror. Ian on the other hand was interested in hear just WHAT could be so different in a place where everyone had a god or goddess for a parent. 'guess I'll find out in a few.' he thought

Brody laughed, still walking towards the Big House. "I've been here for 6 years and I have never seen or heard of anybody getting killed on there." Brody stopped and turned towards the twins, his face darkened slightly, "But out there, where you came from, that's a whole other story for demi-gods. Once you go out there, you may never come back." He shook his head, trying to rid the images of campers he used to know.
The Terpiskhore camper came out of his reverie as he heard the sound of hooves against earth behind him. He turned, and not 10 yards away was a tall, graceful, and seemingly wise with age, centaur. Brody smiled and bowed slightly. "This is Chiron, our activities director," he said to the twins. "And Chiron, these are two new campers, unclaimed. Ife and Ian Strae."
-----
Chiron smiled at the campers and asked "How old are you? For you look as if you should have been claimed by now."

She took a few more steps over the bumpy terrain; trying to force herself to be as normal as possible so she wouldn't scare him away. Fat chance, she thought, demi-gods are never normal. She turned her face towards Dresyn and muttered just loud enough so he could hear, "I've always been curious about meeting you too." This time she tried to put her smile in her voice, hoping that being blind enabled you to hear such things.
"So Dresyn..." she started to say before her clumsy feet almost tripped over themselves. She let out a huge laugh, head thrown back. "Hang on one second," she said as her own laughter died down, "I guess I'm not the best guide when I'm clumsier than a 2-year old." It felt good to be able to poke some fun at herself. She could almost feel the tension ease a little between them. Or at least she hoped it was for him as well.
Dresyn smiled softly. "Why so curious about meeting me?" He listened carefully to her voice and felt the smile that went with it. Dresyn had heard her tripped and leaned forward to catch her. "I believe you are the best guide, Rain."

Rain shrugged, forgetting once again that Dresyn couldn't see her. "I don't know," she said to rectify her mistake, "you just seem like someone interesting, and not because you have...a disability, but because of how you are coping with it." She grimaced slightly. Putting her true feelings into words was harder than it looked.
"And thanks for catching me," she said as an afterthought, noting the irony of the situation. She would have been embarrassed that someone like him was helping her. But she could already tell that he had a better hold on his life than she did. With her free hand she brushed back a silvery lock of hair from her face. Her fall combined with the slight wind had caused her hair to go out of place from it's natural shape and it bugged her when that happened.

Dresyn smiled softly. "I've had practice." He bowed his head to let his hair come over his eyes again. "You're welcome." He said calmly. He didn't have any control of how he was able to use his other senses to help someone. As much as he disliked people, he actually felt something for her. But he didn't understand what. "So..." He said awkwardly.

"So what?" Rain followed in a teasing voice. "I know! So how did it happen? Were you born that way or what?" she asked, wanting to know more about his condition. As an afterthought she did a once over of Dresyn, trying to guess age exactly. "And how old are you?" she paused, thinking, "I'm 16, though I probably sound way less mature." She stopped herself, realizing she was rambling on once again.

Dresyn kind of stared off if he could. Dresyn didn't mind that she was rambling. It meant that he didn't have to really talk as much. "An accident. When I was 5 or 6. Flash from a gun. Most of it got in my eyes and the doctors said I would never be able to see again." Dresyn chuckled dryly. "I'm seventeen." He listened, waiting for a response. He was a scrawny Hepheastus kid and kind of taller than some of the campers there.

Rain sobered up slightly as she listened to Dresyn's voice. She wasn't even looking at him, trying to be like him and rely on sounds and feelings only. The bright sky seemed to be almost mocking Dresyn's story. "That really sucks," she said after a long silence, not knowing what else to say. "I can't believe you've had to deal with the for so long, I would probably have given up long ago." She let out a small sigh, "I'm not much of a fighter. Pretty bad for a half-blood, don't you think?" Her mind was still roving about as she tried to process this information.

"I almost did give up a long time ago. It was before Hepheastus claimed me." Dresyn expression softened slightly. "Not all good half-bloods are fighters, Rain. The Aphrodite cabin is a good example of that." He listened intently. He felt the sun on his face and noted what time it was. 11:30 am. He started to slip off his gloves.

Rain nodded in understanding before smiling, "Yeah I know they sometimes have trouble with the whole monster-fighting thing. And it's not that I am not a good fighter, I just get scared easily." She let go of Dresyn's elbow and turned to face him. Reaching out, she hugged him for a short second, "Thank," she said into his ear. Then she pulled away and took a step back. "Well we're here, where do you want to go, your cabin or the forges?" she asked, trying to cover up her abrasiveness.
