Something seemed to be blaring into my ears, and Jemannie wondered if my friends had snuck in and held an air horn to her ear. She moaned tiredly, pulling the various sheets and blankets over her head. Her voice could be heard from underneath, a muffled “Five more minutes please?”
The blaring did not cease, and soon Jemannie was forced to open her eyes, blinking blearily, before turning to see the alarm clock relentlessly blaring away it’s annoying noise. She sighed, wondering why she had set it. There was no school or anything today, so why on Earth did she set the damned piece of machinery?
Slamming on it to turn it off, she dragged herself out of bed, knowing she couldn’t possibly fall back asleep after that. She drudged over to the kitchen, her steps slow and dragging across the floor. She went over to the bread cabinet, grabbing some and plopping it into the toaster. As she waited, she went outside to grab the newspaper, and decided to sit down and read it as she waited.
Most of it was as boring as usual, talking about politics and taxes, just like every day. She flipped over to the job ads, reading it over and making a mental note over which jobs she would check out. An audible metallic pop sound echoed in the kitchen, and she set down the newspaper to go grab her toast. After adding the usual peanut butter and jam, she returned to the newspaper to read over more wanted ads, before realizing she had lost the page. A draft or something, probably from when she had stood up, had caused it to flip over a few pages, landing on the horoscope section. Figuring she might as well read it, as it was always a little laugh, her eyes scanned down to Gemini. And then they proceeded to widen in surprise.
The letters kept moving and shifting, like something that belonged to the Harry Potter world. She pinched herself, trying to wake herself up, but it didn’t work. Finally, the words stopped, spelling out an address. Shoving the rest of the toast into her mouth, she ripped off the page and ran upstairs to get dressed. Even with possible dreams, she couldn’t go outside in her pajamas.
