How could he just...do that? I wanted to leave on good terms and with good memories. Ren always did have a way of complicating things. Taking a deep and calming breath I dropped the backpack that I had caught instinctively and punched the nearest tree as hard as I could resulting in instant regret. I screamed. It lasted for no more than a second but it was a scream all the same. This was how I'd leave, huh? With bloody knuckles and a broken heart. I wanted to lose it so badly and just tear through the forest like I'd done the cabin. I kept trying to convince myself that this would be the easiest way to go. If he hated me, he wouldn't miss me and if he didn't miss me, he would be happier when he finally forgot about me.

Hiro slowly walked up to Jinx, reaching out a cautious hand to loop a finger in her belt loop. He knew this was pretty much exactly the opposite of what she'd wanted to happen, so he didn't want to upset her anymore. He looked up at her shadowed face, his own expression blank. "Jinx," he said softly, so quietly. It was the first time he'd said her real name aloud, instead of calling her Fang. He figured now was as good a time as any to switch.

I glared at Hiro for a moment but my gaze softened quickly. There was no need to take my anger out on him. "It's time to go." Leaning down I pressed a quick kiss to the top of his head, too caught up in my own emotional turmoil to realize that he'd just called me Jinx. There was still pain shooting through my abused hand but it was almost nothing more than a dull ache now. Thankfully, the ache brought me back to reality. It gave me something to focus on and let me know that I wasn't completely numb through and through. Ren hated me. I was his kitty but that was nothing more than a distant memory that would only bring on bitter nostalgia. Shaking my head I focused on the pain in my hand letting it bring me back to reality. Hiro was still there for me though and for that I was thankful. He would keep me grounded long enough for me to get my head on straight and although it was usually Ren who would do that for me, Hiro was all I had left and the only one I could rely on.

Hiro looked at the blood slowly dripping off her hand as his wings loosened, already trying to catch the wind. He let go of her belt loop and propelled himself into the sky, boosting himself on a thick tree branch and he hovered twelve feet above the ground, waiting for Jinx to follow suit. His head was blissfully clear as he gazed at the stars peeking out from behind the clouds. He didn't want to think about the rest of the flock, he just wanted to think about Jinx and himself. Their future. They were going to be all on their own now, they wouldn't have any help from other people. He'd get to improve his hellion skills, and Jinx would get to do whatever it was she was planning to do. They...it sounded perfect. Absolutely perfect, and he couldn't think of anything that could be more fun or exciting or really anything. The air around him was going crazy, his heart racing as tiny wisps of clouds whipped around him in the fierce, enthralling wind. The wind created by him. He cleared his throat and took deep breaths, calming himself and the air down. He had to remember to control that stuff.

I flew into the cave, ignoring any looks from flock members. I sat against the wall, sinking to the hard ground. I miss the soft couch at Michaels already. I slid the bags off of my shoulders and dig around. I pull a granola bar out and nibble on it as I see what else he packed for us. I pull out a little black leather book. Inside on the first page is his phone number. Underneath that is my name written in beautiful calligraphy.
