Simon pulled away, gasping, "You're not real. You feel unreal." His head was having trouble forming coherent thoughts. "Are you real?" he asked before continuing with, "No you can't be. You're too old." He rubbed his eyes, trying to make everything go away. "I don't believe in you," he said, more to himself than her. "I don't believe in anything."

Xaria dropped her hands, sliding to her feet. "The first person I speak to in a hundred years and he believes he is insane." She said, feeling a little insane herself. There was only so long she could go without a person to speak to. She sighed, looking back at him. He had the best reaction to her so far and she hoped he would be persuaded to think differently. "What do I have to do to prove I am real?" She asked, her words far too enunciated and too free of slang and shortened words to be from this era.

Simon stammered in an attempt to speak but all that came out was gibberish. Finally he took a breath and shuddered. "Let me look into your eyes," he whispered as he pulled himself off the floor. He brushed some of his hair back, raking his fingers through the dark short spikes. He stared at her, and continued to stare. "Can you smile?" he asked, in an almost obtuse way.

Xaria nodded, turning her body to face him. She looked up into his eyes, her emerald eyes flashing nervously. She resisted the urge to avert her gaze back to the floor. Surely it is rude to stare in such a way. She thought, biting her lip. But maybe etiquette has changed as much as the fashion has... She kept her gaze on him, her hands folded in front of her on her skirt. She remembered his question and smiled shyly at him, answering it without opening her mouth.

Simon had looked into her eyes and saw the same thing he had seen in the portrait. Something he knew no imagination could reproduce. Simon ran his hands through his hair almost pulling out a few strands. "Okay," he said, letting out the breath he'd been holding. "So you are real, but what you are isn't," he shook his head then glanced at his watch. A shocked expression came over his face, "You know what? I don't have time for this. I'm starting my new job today and I can't be late."
Simon turned towards the attic stairs and started walking towards them. He looked back once before he started to descend. "Stay there," he said firmly, "Or I might just go even more crazy." He paused, "I mean...unless you, uh...want to go somewhere else in the house," he paused, "Or just do what you do." With that he quickly dashed down the stairs and into his bedroom.

Xaria nodded, a little confused by his words. She shrugged off the feeling, pinning the blame on the fact that he had probably never seen a ghost before her and she watched him leave before sliding back on the floor with a sigh, waiting for him to return since she had nothing better to do than explore their belongings. But that was an invasion of privacy.

Alex looked out of his room as the door slammed shut on Simon's door. "Finally...!" He exclaimed irritatedly. He looked up at the attic, wondering what was so interesting up there that Simon had stayed there beyond need. He grabbed his coat and his keys, leaning against the door as he waited for Simon to reemerge from his room.

Simon buttoned up a clean shirt before grabbing his guitar and opening the door. He would have laughed at the sight of Alex in his work clothes if his nerves hadn't been so frazzled. He nodded at Alex, "Let's go," before hurrying down the stairs, taking care not to glance up above. As they exited the house Simon locked the house door with his key and turned to Alex. "You drive," he said quietly.

Jane had stopped off at the bank to drop off her paycheck from the post office before sliding back into her car. She turned on some classical music and just sat in her car for a moment, listening. The evening wind mixed with shrieks of the string instruments let her believe that something was out there. Something waiting for her to kill it. Something that was already dead. She stopped, wondering how anybody could manage to die twice. She shuddered slightly at the thought but put it out of her mind before turning on the ignition.

Alex nodded, unlocking the door to his car. He opened the door, climbing in and starting the ignition quickly. "What took you so long up there anyway?" He asked Simon, quirking an eyebrow curiously and a sour, irritated tone to his voice. He was the type of person that liked to make a good impression. Especially on the first day of a well paying job. He waited for Simon to get in before driving off to the bar and waiting for a good explanation.

((Ah okay no problem. I just thought maybe it was weird slang for something I had never heard of before. Maybe it is. XP))

Simon quickly flared up. "Hey I hit myself pretty hard up there," he said, holding up his hands in defense, "I should be allowed to take as long as I want, even if it is the first day of work." He looked at his friend once more, glad that he had someone who would allow him to focus on reality. And he needed to be focused to play well. "But seriously, I know you're a waiter at this new bar-restaurant combo thing, but do they really expect you to look like a prat in preppy clothes or something?" he asked, totally ignoring the fact that he himself was dressing up compared to usual.

Jane neatly drove her car into the small parking lot of her favorite hangout and turned her keys. Instantly the noise of the engine was silenced and she got out, looking better than she ever did during the day. She really was more of a night time person. She checked her face once in the side view mirror before slamming the car door and gracefully walking to the entrance.

Alex shrugged. "It said 'casual smart'. What else I wear, other than black jeans and a button up?" He rolled his eyes slightly, pulling into the parking lot of the bar. "Besides... It's just a job. He was wearing his converse. There was no ditching them, even for a job at a place like this. He cut the engine. "Let's go." He got out, waiting for Simon to do the same so he could lock the door. A cool breeze ruffled his hair and pulled at the thin silk tie around his neck. "I look like an idiot." He mumbled, the wind dying down and he fixed his waistcoat, leaving it unbuttoned.
