The idea seemed decent at the time, life-saving even, some harsh way to put and end to the misery. The blade was one millimeter thick, the tip sharpened till one tap on the skin could cause instant bleeding. It seemed like a good way to die to Alex.
He was standing in the middle of his small, empty bedroom, gloomy with the dull, gray colored wall and concrete floors. Alex's shaggy blond hair was untidy and almost ash in color from the dust and smoke around where he lived and he stood, bare chested wearing old, torn jeans and sneakers. His brown eyes blinked hesitantly as his finger touched the tip of the knife blade, cutting into his finger slightly. He couldn't bring himself to consider what was right or wrong at that moment, he didn't care one bit. Taking in a shaky breath, he gripped the black handle of the knife, turning it over a few times before lifting it up to chest height, pointing the tip towards himself. It was cruel really, for someone to feel like such a failure that they had to become a monster, but he couldn't help it. Closing his eyes, Alex felt tears fall down his cheek. This was it.
Time went quickly then. Alex drew the knife towards him as fast and hard as he could, embedding it in his chest. The sheer shock of what he had just done struck him first before the sharp, jabbing pain that soon took over his body. Then he was on the floor, one hand still curled around the handle of the knife in his chest, the other one over the spot where it buried, the blood covering over his hand. His body writhed in pain, his head throbbing and his blood rushing, either of which gave him time to hear the piercing scream from nearby. The window. He had left the window open. Through the narrowed slits between his eyes, he glimpsed sights of people rushing towards him before they closed again and the image changed. A leopard, staring out at him from the side of a bush ready to attack...or help. There was a sheer look of helplessness on it's face before it disappeared.
The next time he opened his eyes he was in a large white room surrounded by about 6 people, surgeons. His senses had switched off, and all he could do was watch as they ran about, talking frantically. His body was failing him, he wasn't going to make it. Fearing the worst, he didn't wait for them to be ready to help him. Lifting a numb arm up, he curled his fingers around the knife before giving it a sharp yank and pulling it out, only increasing the pain further. He gave something of a grunt, enough to accidentally get the surgeons looking at him and then rushing over to analyze what he had done. Now he was sure he was going to die. The pain seemed to ebb away as he dropped out slowly before he closed his eyes for what he thought was the last time.
You don't have to do this you know.
The voice ran out inside his head very suddenly and he felt a shock run through his body, once, twice. He felt the pain suddenly increase, like a fire inside his body and he cringed almost.
I'm here, just stay with me. I'll stay with you.
That's when it clicked inside his head and the fire inside his body burned. It was his Dracio. The time had come...Now. Alex felt more shocks run through his body before, by some miracle, his eyes opened and the pain drained away. It was all gone, the pain, the blood and the fire. It was as if his heart had just rebuilt itself, into a whole new heart. All that was left, was a scar.
The dragon had been awakened.
[Wow. Major terrible post. Sorry it took so long. I changed Alex's form so his dragon hadn't been awakened because I though I would have more fun typing up how it happened. But, it's terrible. Sorry guys!]
