As glowing blues hues watched the interaction between Storm and Ren, it became obvious that something was going on. Since when were they so nice to each other? With a soft sigh, I glanced up at the starry skies and let my feline features surface. It would be easier to function at night in this form. I wanted to talk to Storm but I didn't want to bother Ren so I turned my gaze away from the two of them and scaled a nearby tree, deciding to take up residence in the branches. I was already wired so there was no point in me trying to sleep. My back against the tree's broad trunk, I turned my attention towards the full moon that illuminated the night. Unfortunately for me, moonlight made my skin look much paler, but it wasn't as if anyone was awake to notice. In fact, since everyone was already asleep or halfway there, I allowed myself to hum softly, and just try to fill some of the silence.

Hiro saw Jinx settle into a tree and banked toward it silently, touching down a few branches away from her. He tiptoed across the branches lightly until he was right next to her and sat down, wrapping an arm around hers and resting his head on her shoulder. He draped his legs across her lap tiredly and closed his eyes, not really sleeping but trying to.

Why he chose to sit in a different branch was beyond me because we both knew where he'd end up sooner or later. Shaking my head I wrapped my arms around him, pulling him into my lap with a smile. More for my peace of mind than anything, I wrapped my tail around his waist just in case he shifted in his sleep and fell from my lap.

Hiro smiled slightly and wrapped his arms around her waist, snuggling into the familiar warmth of her body. His head rested in the crook of her neck as he tried to fall asleep, to no avail. Oh well, at least it wasn't as cold in her lap. His eyes opened slightly as he wiggled his bare toes, trying to bring some warmth back into them.

A cold wind came to ruffle my already disheveled hair although this time, it wasn't a result of Hiro's abilities. Sooner rather than later, I wanted to see if he could channel different emotions for different atmospheric changes. Maybe that was something I needed to think about. It would be beneficial to everyone, but still my thoughts kept wandering back over to Storm. This was killing me. My thoughts were the place I wanted to be able to escape into but it seemed that even there, I was plagued with thoughts of the one person I just needed to forget. Things would be so much easier if I were Hiro's age, when boys still had cooties and the only things I needed to care about were having fun, annoying the hell out of Ren, escaping, and avoiding tests.

Hiro felt Jinx tense up slightly and knew she must be dwelling on unsettling thoughts once again. His arms got tighter around her and the air around them slightly warmer as the soft wind stopped. Right now he didn't want anyone to be worried about or anything, he just wanted to lie there until morning. He hoped Jinx would start thinking happy thoughts instead, not only because he didn't want her worrying but also because she became a pretty uncomfortable pillow all tense like this.

The random change in temperature around us alerted me to Hiro's awareness of my discontent. I preferred the air to be cold but the warmth was not unwelcomed. With a faint smile, I allowed myself to finally relax so I wouldn't make Hiro uncomfortable. When I was tense I tended to become like a brick wall and I could only imagine how horrible it would be to sleep on bricks. For Hiro's sake I forced any and all thoughts of Storm away, keeping my mind busy by humming whatever songs came to mind.

Hiro relaxed completely as he felt Jinx's muscles do the same, though sleep still didn't come. He looked up at the sky through the leaves, quickly spotting Orion's belt and identifying the bow and Betelgeuse, putting the constellation together quite simply, though from this point of view the ever battle-ready man was lying on his side.
