Leonardo was now leaned next to a thick trees, flipping leaves and rummaging for the wrinkly green nut. His not-quite-shoulder-length hair was luckily kept out of his face by his maroon beret-type hat, one he'd picked up in France before heading back to Florence. He'd made a few adjustments to it and like it as the poofy thing it now was. His Renaissance-Italy black outfit with brown leather greaves set the look, not to mention the matching gold-fringed red cape he wore. Leonardo always liked to dress up a bit, he hated going around looking like he just came crawling out of a Venetian canal.
"It might help if you looked for one." He grumbled to Arno, who snorted with laughter.
"Why would I want to help you find a walnut?"
"I can tell you want to go home and take a nap. Just look for a tree with leaves that have two leaves on the right and left sides with one at the top. Si può fare questo?"
"Yes, yes I can, your Highness." Arno retorted. Leonardo rolled his eyes. The fallow deer ventured further into the forest as Leonardo continued looking for a hint of walnut leaves or nuts. All for the love of painting I suppose.
"Leonardo! Come look!" He heard Arno bellow after a good half-hour of searching. Leonardo sighed, standing up.
"Did you find one?" He asked, his voice not bothering to hide how tired he was of looking for some.
"No, but you have to see this!" Arno called, excited. Leonardo rolled his eyes, it was probably a blackberry patch, Arno's favorite treat. He continued rummaging for a few minutes.
"Maestro! Maître! get over here!" Leonardo swooped up in surprise. Did his totem just use Italian and French in the same breath? That has to mean its something very very bad. Or very very interesting, even to a grullo deer. He thought, making his way towards the call. Leonardo probably didn't give enough credit to his totem, but he was a very bright one, as bright as Leonardo himself our course. But Arno's intelligence was hidden behind laziness, as most genius's are. Leonardo's brown eyes came to life as he observed the forest around him, his brain automatically placing names to every plant and creature, and each had a sketch in his journal. He stepped through a thicket of bushes into an area dusted with snow, that gre in depth the further in you stepped. This forest hold more secrets than I can comprehend, thank God I have forever to figure it out. Leonardo though as he breathed in the chilly air. But Arno wasn't looking at the snow, in fact he wasn't using his eyes at all. The fallow deer grunted in surprise and swung his antlers round to face Leonardo.
"Other shuras have been here . . . . only about an hour or so ago." Arno's nostril's flared again, this time with anger. "And a . . . . scent that is mingled with ice spirit, and shura . . . elf too . . . . " The deer's lip curled. Leonardo stood in thought, pondering what could be happening here. Arno only got upset about a few things and Leonardo hadn't come across any shuras in his part of the forest, and the thought of talking with them sent his mind reeling. SO much knowledge to be attained!
"Well, we simply must find them! I'm not going to leave this turn of events behind!" Leonardo said, excited. He headed off into the snow, unaffected by the cold. Arno cursed under his breath and followed, making sure to pick his hooves up extra high to avoid as much snow as possible. They trudged on to a clearing and Leonardo gasped suddenly, rushing to some dead bushes.Red droplets of blood hung in the snow an a sucked clean deer carcass lay in the clearing. This struck quite a chord with Leonardo and he gritted his teeth. Arno matched the rage.
"The vampire did this of course. His stench is all around here. Smell." Arno growled and Leonardo went to object but they had already synched. Leonardo had discovered how to fully synch with his totem, though it could be something every shura knew how to do, he didn't know. His nose was assaulted with the scent od blood and rotting flesh an dthe scent of . . . . . brotherhood. The poor cervo! But something else came into his radar and Leonardo turned. I know that smell!
"I have to find them! The shuras and the bloodsucker!" Arno thundered.
Suddenly he was back to human senses and Arno was bolting off into the forest and Leonardo had no choice but to chase him.
They did not stop until they reached a clearing and Leonardo felt each of his heartstrings snapping. Italia! They had come to a classic italian-style home and Arno bellowed inwardly.
"Quiet. We need to forget about the deer and find out more about ourselves!" Leonardo scolded and stepped to the door, knocking loudly. he could only imagine the surprise of the people inside, he knew he wouldn't believe it if someone came knocking at his door. Arno's stomped faded as he deteriorated
