Gabriel was essentially silent as Salem handed him the pole for stroking the fire. He just replaced the dagger in the rucksack, and stood up, brushing the snow from his pants and coat. In one swift action, the man picked up his M4 and slung it across his shoulder. Gabriel stood by the fire, moving a few logs into a more optimal location. Naturally, for his snide yet truthful remarks, he got triple duty -- guard the camp, tend the fire, and look out for Katherine.

As Nat kept on going, the palm trees were bare of leaves and the grass the showed was brown. No animals were present, and all was silent. The Earth was dieing. To keep himself going he pictured sunny days and green fields as far as the eye could see. All Nat could see was snow and deadness. He grew quite sad as he kept walking. He was tired and hungary and was in pain, but he kept going for his team. He thought of Hestia, the goddess of home and hearth, and wondered if she was watching his team.

Sedge got up and walked after Nathan and the others. He shook his head, no believing that they were in Florida. He picked up his pace and walked up next to Nat.
"So how are we going to get the fish to bite?" he asked, "I doubt they'll take snow as a decent bribe."
Alyssa looked at Gabriel for a moment before looking off into the forest. At least if there were any animals that decided to attack them she could handle it. It was people she was worried about. Innocent idiots who had gotten lost and malicious people who knew what they were. She took a deep breath and tightened her bow string a little.

"Nope. None." He replied truthfully. "Layla! Come here!" Layla came over to Nathans feet and coughed up a piece of meat. Nat bent down and picked it up from the ground and held it up. "Could this possibly be bait?" He grabbed Sedge's hand and opened it and dropped the gooey meat in his hand. "Here, hold this."

Sedge tensed as Nathan's thoughts briefly entered his head and then disappeared when he let go of his hand. He looked down at the gooey meat that was left and grimaced,
"That's disgusting," he said, "But worth a shot."

Katherine watched in silence as Gabriel tended the fire and Alyssa walked off. She shivered slightly, then turned back to Gabriel. Katherine could see the man didn't like taking orders from Nathan, especially considering their age difference. Regardless, both them knew their chances of survival were much higher in a group rather than just a pair, even if neither of them wanted to admit it.
Katherine stood then, walking over to Gabriel. Even in the freezing cold, her movements were remotely graceful, though Katherine frankly felt awful. She stood by the rather tall man, the top of her head level with him mid-chest. The warmth of the fire radiated better here, especially when Gabriel moved the few logs around to stir the flames about.
"So. Do you think they'll catch any fish?" Katherine asked optimistically. Gabriel gave a grunt.
"Considering only small fry will be right on the shore, and the freezing cold will keep them from biting, I don't think so," he told her, then added, "I've got half a mind to go find a boar or maybe some quail if they don't bring anything back. There's a few animals out here, so we'll see." Katherine didn't reply, merely shivering in silence. Gabriel shifted his military rifle a bit, then stirred the fire some more.
"I hope they get back soon," Katherine murmured, "Fish or not."
