((Yes, you are. ^^ I'm starting with everyone about to escape. My character Ren has just gotten out, he's going around unlocking the various cells of our characters.))
Ren took a sharp breath, willing his mind to calm itself. Their usual captor had stopped by his cell to give the usual high calorie meal necessary to keep their ability-heightened bodes working, though it was not for him. His food for the day seemed to be bread and some vegetable he couldn't identify along with water. The more filling dish was for the raven-haired boy he shared the cell with, by name of Kiro as he had learned. Normally, Kiro would offer Ren some of his food, as the meager meal for those who didn't have any powers was small. But Ren did have a power, and a damn strong one at that, so he never had enough calories in him. Having only a meal and half, less really, between them had lead to both boys being weakened. But, as they had both understood, it was necessary that they not realize Ren was not a failure.
It had been nearly twenty years, though Kiro's power had only appeared six previously, Ren's four. The testing was horrible, and even if they barely remembered life outside of the place, they knew they wanted to be anywhere else. And finally, thanks to a foolish guard, they were going to be free at last.
Normally, the heavy iron door that kept them locked in that small room was sealed with a key, a steel beam, and a twelve digit code, all of which could only be removed from the outside. That day, only the last thing kept them there. In what seemed to be a fit of rage and foolishness but really was a genius move on Kiro's part, when the older boy was being led back to his cell after the usual day of testing, he had burned the beam so badly it had to be removed, and the keyhole had melted slightly and the key to lock it no longer fit. He had passed out on the spot from the effort and was put through hell as punishment, but it was all Ren needed. Ren could hear the thoughts of the guards clear as day, had been able to for four years, namely what went through their minds when they were typing in the keycode.
"Kiro. Now would be a great time." Finally Kiro had recovered from the beating he had taken destroying the door, and the safest time to leave was right after the guard-who-brought-food came as they had learned. The older boy's face was pale, but he paced over to the door and placed his palma few inches over where the lock would be on the other side. His face screwed up in concentration, and slowly the metal under his palm glowed. Ren grabbed the water they had been given, thankfully quite cold, and splashed it on the new, very impressive burn mark, once Kiro had pulled his hand away. The sudden transition between cold and hot make the metal twist, but fail to make even a tiny hole. Kiro was sweating and his face pale, but he replaced his hand on the mark and they repeated the cycle twice more. Finally, a mouse-sized hollow appeared the metal, leading through. Ren had shaped a thin, bent bone from some of the meat that had been in a previous meal, and slowly wormed it through the door. The twelve digits were random and he could only guess where the numbers were as he slowly keyed them in. However, luck was on Ren's side that day. He managed to get them all punched in correctly, and Kiro and the younger boy let out a breath of relief as the lock beeped. Pushing his shoulder against the door that for twenty long years had seemed indestructible, it swung open at last.
Kiro and Ren exchanged a single glance, before breaking into a run. The first corner they rounded was their first misfortune; two guards, ready with guns, more then shocked to see that two subjects had somehow escaped the cell. Both the escapees and the guards froze for a moment, before both acted. The sound of guns ripped through the air, and Ren held back a scream as a bullet dug unto his arm. At the same moment the room was lit by the flash of fire, and the voices of the guards were silenced. Kiro was gasping for breath, the effort of using fire to kill two was taking it's toll. Ren smiled grimly, taking the keys from the charred corpses, already making himself run to the nearest locked doors. Other cells, he hoped, with other subjects who would help with the escape. With a flick of his hand, he tossed a one of the two keys to Kiro, who didn't say a thing and just went to the nearest door as well.
"Bit random, but how'd you like to run away with us?" Ren commented with a grin as he forced the first door open, hoping that whoever was inside would have the sense to follow, and quickly.
((Muse was good, your posts do not need to be anywhere near this necessarily long. xD))
