Fawna woke with a start as the sun cleared the horizon. She hadn't realized she'd fallen so deeply asleep, she was glad that nothing had come upon her in the night. She glanced over to see if Bengli was still there and sure enough the young cat was. It seemed to have decided for now it wasn't going to eat her. She quickly got up and shook out her blanket before folding in and placing in back into the plastic bag. Next when the canteen and water bottle. She again pocketed the water purification supplies, she was unwilling to let those off her person for long. She took out one of the darts and placed it in the blowgun before also putting the darts into the bag.
She jimmy-rigged up a belt to hold her sword and careful placed it at her hip, it was crude but it would work for a while. She took off the bandage around her arm to inspect the cut, it didn't look infected but sometimes it was hard to tell. It was at least sealed now and not bleeding whenever she moved. She moved the bandage around so that the bloody part wasn't on the wound and tied the bandage back in place. No use risking it opening again, besides carrying the bandage like that was easier than putting it in the bag where it could tangle things up. She looked up at the rising sun and sighed. Her burn was just going to get worse, why hadn't she picked up a burn medicine? Should she go back and see if she could find some? She looked back the way she'd come, no, she'd just have to live with it. She wasn't ready to face the other tributes yet, not enough of them had died.
Turning back in the direction she was going, she started off. Glancing back every once and a while to see Bengli following at a leisurely pace. The cat didn't seem to be in a hurry, though she could tell it was alert for anything. She wondered if she could get Bengli to share whatever food it caught and glanced back at its slightly opened mouth. Better not, those teeth would make short work of her arm. With blowgun in hand, Fawna watched her surroundings, hoping to see an animal skitter across the sand. Suddenly, Bengli shot past her and into the distance, covering ground a lot faster than Fawna thought it could.
She didn't see Bengli for several minutes but then it came back with a fat rabbit in its jaws. Fawna's mouth watered and she stopped, waiting as Bengli ate. It was a messy affair and there wasn't much left when it was done but Fawna investigated anyways. Bengli sat off some ways watching her. Bengli, apparently, didn't know that thigh bones contained marrow that was good to eat and had just picked the meat off of them. Fawna gather both up and broke one open and stuck the other in her sack. It would be much better cooked but Fawna didn't have a way to make fire nor any fuel to burn, so she sucked on the bone as she walked. Bengli kept pace with her, slightly closer now that it had determined that she wasn't going to still its food. She talked to Bengli as she walked, about nothing in particular and really just to get Bengli use to her voice. She recited nursery rhymes and talked about her family and how she was going to run the ranch one day. Bengli was a good listener, it even chirped at her once or twice as she talked.
