Cory looked at the other hobbits in confusion, but just shook his head and rolled up the blankets hastily, stuffing them into his pack and helping Rosie onto Forge and shoving Piper's reins into her hands. Then he kicked Forge in the side and galloped after Tom, knowing that Piper's pony would follow because of the herd instinct.

In the corner of her black hood, Black Nightingale saw some small figures. She recognized them as being hobbits, not thinking they would have the pendant she swooped over them, trying to sensing power. But her Fallen Beast had other plans. Roaring out he lunged after the horses and opened his bony mouth, trying to snap at them. Nightingale let out another screech, 'He mussst be ont o ssssomething.' she thought letting the creature catch them up.

Tom glanced back, seeing a huge creature tower above them. Its huge wings covered the sky completely, not letting even a bit of moonlight shine upon them. The hobbit panicked, watching the huge black creature. He suddenly felt an urge to put on the pendant. He knew he couldn't, but it was just... slowly, his hand crept towards the pocket where he had kept it.
((What are they going to do?! There is no strider this time...))
