Ryse froze on the spot and her flames crackled in protest as her body temperature plummeted to dangerous levels. Deadly levels. Ryse focused on that for the moment and forced herself into heating up. The flaming wings dwindled a little and she struggled to keep her form intact. It took a lot of concentration, but Ryse was back to her usual temperature. Still not ready to speak, but she was going to anyway.
"Oh...Okay well. Just don't tell a SOUL. And I mean it. I might get in trouble if they find out I told someone." With that said, she closed her eyes and leaned her head against the wall. Okay, wow. This was really going to happen, she was really going to tell someone.
Ryse shoved the paranoid thoughts out of her head to avoid a panic attack.
"Where to start." A terrified expression appeared on Ryse's face, but she quickly wiped it away. "I uh. don't know my parents. I don't know who they are, where they are, or what they are, but they left me." Ryse paused to take a deep breath and launched straight into everything.
"When I was a year and a half old, I was dropped off at an orphanage. I wasn't one of those movie kids who was wrapped in a blanket and in a basket. The people at the orphanage found me in the back alleyway behind the building. They took me in...and at the time I looked like a normal human. Within a few months, I was adopted by a couple."
Ryse saw images flashing in her mind, but ignored them.
"Everything was nice until I was six. No one knew I had a full monster soul. Not even me. And then, Some hateful kids set our house on fire." She clenched her hands into fists and a scowl took up her face.
"My adopted parents died in the fire. And so did I. At least...everyone thought I did. Somehow, I came back to life. I assume it was because I am a phoenix monster and phoenix's are immortal. Whenever they die, they burn themselves into ashes and then recreate themselves brand new as if nothing ever happened." Ryse gazed darkly at her flaming hands.
"I came back to life, courtesy of my powers. But I was on fire. No matter what, the fire never went out. At first it hurt. It hurt almost to much to bear. But I got through it. That's what I called 'The Match'. Because that fire is what set off my powers. I could have gone my whole life looking and acting like a human and never being burned alive. Then, I wouldn't be the way I am now."
Ryse sighed and uncurled her fists. "Anyway. After a while, I got put into foster care. A nice family that seemed great. But they're awful. It wasn't until I was entering middle school when I found out why I was really there. They wanted me for my fire. And for any other abilities I may or may not have. I was put into rigorous training and heh...let's be honest. Those humans were downright messed up in the head. I'd do something wrong..."
Ryse had a horrendous flashback that sent her into shivers for a moment, but she continued. "And they'd punish me. Of course, it was all part of the TrAiNiNg."
She spat the word out like it was poison on her tongue. "Everything was run by the government. So no fire, no powers. They never knew when a flaming girl was doused in water. Which, by the way, HURTS! Or when she was sent hate notes. Eventually, they found out about my life at...HoMe. And sent me to a psychiatrist. I didn't and still don't need him!"
Ryse took a deep breath. "I still live there by all technical means. Once my foster demons found out about this school, they shipped me off. They thought if I was around other people like me, I'd grow into the image they set for me. You see how well that has turned out." Ryse growled.
"In case you haven't noticed, there aren't many blood thirsty thieves and murdering psychopaths around here."
(RIP fingers. This is soooo long)
