Jane took Alex's hand, shaking lightly before letting go. "I'm Jane, your mailwomen...girl...whatever you want to call me..." she trailed off, not knowing what to say. After a moment's hesitation she remembered the letter in her other hand and held it out towards him. "Well this is your mail, hope it's not a disappointment or anything," she said smiling.

Simon exited the house before coming to a halt. Already, Alex had found some girl to talk to. He strolled up to them and elbowed Alex lightly, "So you found a new girlfriend already?" Continuing with his banter he reconsidered, "Actually come to think of it, if this was your girlfriend it would be a first." He ducked his head in case Alex decided to let any blows come his way. Simon walked around the pair, heading for his car and grabbed a box from the back seat of the convertible. On his way back to the house he stopped, "Oh and by the way, I'm Simon, the cool one."

Alex took the mail gratefully. "Thanks." He muttered before Simon walked over. He scowled at his words, eyes narrowing slightly in irritation. Not that Simon knew it but he was telling the truth. Alex had never had a serious relationship, having only really had flings and short term arrangements. He sighed, scratching the back of his neck awkwardly. "Uhh... Sorry about him." He said, smiling apologetically at her. "I guess I'll see you around, Jane." He said softly, realising that he had stalled her and she probably had other mail to deliver. "Sorry for holding you up." He apologised, picking up another box.

Jane half ignored Simon as her smile stretched wider, "Hey, no problem, you were the last one anyway, so my job's all done for the day." She glanced over at Simon before leaning close to Alex, "And don't worry about your friend, he'll soon see you're the one that's got everything a girl wants." Jane started walking back to her bike. Looking back over her shoulder she yelled out at Alex so that Simon could hear, "It was nice meeting you Alex, I hope we get to talk again soon." At the last moment she added as an afterthought, "And you too, Simon..."

Simon was almost in the house as Jane's voice reach his ears. He didn't even bother saying bye, he was sure Alex could handle that on his own. He grinned, thinking of how much he could tease Alex for just one simple thing like that. Simon lifted the box slightly to check the label on it. It read "Bedroom Stuff" so he decided to dump it on his bed before going back out for more stuff. He marched up the stairs, examining old portraits that still hung on the walls, gathering dust. He stopped next to a picture of a very pretty girl in a long white dress. She looked as if she might have lived in the house at the time it was built from the way she her hair was done. Not to mention that her complexion was that of a girl who had grown up being afraid of freckles and she held herself in a posture no modern girl even knew existed.

Alex nodded, grinning at her. "Bye!" He called, walking into the house with a slight blush on his cheeks as he remembered her words. He wondered if she was serious and with a sigh, he dumped his last box on the floor, shutting the front door behind him. He ran upstairs with a box of his books and things for his bedroom, his laptop bag hanging off his shoulders. "Hey... Who's that?" He asked, forgetting completely about the dusting of pink on his cheeks and the whole scene outside. He was easily distracted and the portrait was interesting to him.

Xaria watched them. Her invisible fingers trailed across the canvas painting of herself, feeling the tiny lumps and bumps from the paintbrush strokes. She smiled fondly at the memory of having it painted and how much she had moaned and grumbled about it. That dress was her favourite and she wore it even now in death. She wondered what they must have thought because she could pick out minor mistakes in the way it portrayed her. She was most definitely not that pretty, at least in her eyes and her eyes weren't that big.

Simon shrugged his shoulders awkwardly due to the box he was holding. "I don't know, I just saw this picture now," he leaned forward as he spoke to better examine the portrait. After a pregnant pause he spoke again, "Well she was very beautiful, that's for sure. No artist would exaggerate a girl's features that much and still make her seem prettier than any other girl." He continued to stare at the picture for another moment, "But there's more to it than just her looks. Either the artist was very good, or he managed to capture the true depth that is evident in her eyes." He turned to look at Alex, "Whoever she was, she must have lived here long ago. And she must have been highly intelligent and kind as well as pretty."

Jane pedaled a few more blocks and arrived at the nearby Post Office. After dropping off the traditional mail girl equipment handed to her on her first day of the job, she headed out towards her house. It wasn't that far away, within walking distance of the Post Office and most of the house on her route. She just preferred to bike. It was much more efficient than her own legs and she preferred to sweat it out in her late father's air conditioned gym than out on the public streets.
Jane entered the rather large house, almost a modern manor or mansion, and flicked on some of the lights. She did her usual security check before heading to the stainless steel kitchen. She grabbed a yogurt and headed to her room, grabbing her bag on the way. In her room she pulled a disc out of her bag and slotted it into the DVD player before flopping onto her bed and diving into her dairy delight. She began to watch the TV which was showing video footage signals received from the button camera on her shirt. She examined the footage, trying to catch a glimpse of any ghosts at all. She knew that if she didn't find any soon, she would have to go after humans for money instead. And that was not an option.

Xaria looked at Simon with wide eyes. She bit her lip, knowing that if she could blush, she would. Her fingers left the painting and she smiled at him, knowing he couldn't see her and wishing he could so she could thank him properly for the compliments he'd just made to her. She looked between the two boys, wondering about their connection was and why they had moved into her house together.

Alex chuckled lightly, shifting the box in his arms slightly to make it more comfortable for him. "Sounds like you need a girl. Preferably living, but you never know... She could be a ghost." He smirked, teasing him and thinking that ghosts did not exist. He shrugged lightly. "I'll leave you alone with her." He said, before bolting to his door and locking it behind him. He shook his head slightly, starting to unpack his things.

Simon chuckled appreciatively at Alex's joke. "You better!" he called after Alex as he disappeared into his room, "You owe me after I left you alone with that mail chick." Simon chuckled again. Mail chick. Male chick. After having a good laugh over his little joke, Simon stared at the portrait of the little girl a little more. "What I would give to have known you," he whispered, practically talking to the girl, pressing his fingers against the frame. It was almost as if he was trying to grab hold of her and pull her into his world.

Jane had finished her yogurt and the video footage was almost finished as well. Coming to the last house, Jane paused the DVD player, allowing it to show an image of the Old house where she had met that guy. Alex was his name. He was walking down the walkway towards her with the door open. Inside she could see his friend, Simon, almost out the door. Jane leaned forward in a sitting position on her bed, studying the pair. They're both kinda cute, she thought, analyzing them both, I hope I meet up with Alex again; he seemed a lot more interesting. Suddenly, her breath stopped in her throat. The video camera had picked up a slight shimmer near Simon. Almost as if there was a heat haze coming from the staircase. She shook her head, it was probably a mechanical malfunction. Jane slowly rolled off her bed thinking, Just in case, I'll make sure to get a better view soon.

Alex laughed lightly in his room, leaving to go get another box when he noticed Simon was still at the painting. He rolled his eyes, going downstairs. He picked up a box, sighing before trekking upstairs again. He was a little bit lazy and this was torture to his tired body. He'd been driving for God knows how long. He shut his door behind himself.

Xaria watched Simon with wide eyes. Her eyes flashed with conflict. He would run away or yell or something if she appeared but he did say he wanted to know her. And she was standing right there... But what if it was only to compare how alike she really looked to the canvas image on the wall. She bit her lip, squeezing her eyes shut and slowly materialised next to him. She opened her eyes and then thought it was a mistake on her part. That was a stupid idea. She squeaked lightly, hovering in the air and she ran for the stairwell that led up into the attic.

Simon her a sort of creak or something behind him. Quickly he turned but saw nothing. He looked up the stairs and saw a piece white fabric disappearing around the corner. Simon slapped the side of his face once, trying to tell himself it was a trick of the light. His sensible side looked to the still open door and realized somebody might have snuck past him while he was left staring at that portrait. Slowly he creaked up the stairs, wanting to investigate, whatever it was. Even if it was nothing. He reached the top of the stairs and looked around.

Jane had finished her afternoon workout and showered. Now the sky was beginning to darken ever so slightly. She glanced at her watch and raised her eyebrows. Time to relax, she thought, blow drying her hair, or party. She quickly ran a comb through her mostly dry hair, put on a little green eye shadow to mask the death looks she appeared to have at night, and headed down the grand staircase. Grabbing her purse, she put on some high heeled shoes and headed outside, intending to go to her favorite night time place, Ghostly Gals and Beer Boys.

Xaria looked up at him with wide eyes as he came up into the attic. She crouched behind some old boxes, peeking out and hoping he didn't see her and was just investigating. Once again, her fear had made her forget that she could turn invisible and hide better that way. She bit her lip harshly enough to draw blood, but of course, she had none.

Down in his room, Alex was getting dressed. Black slacks, white button up shirt and a black waistcoat that he left unbuttoned. He glanced in the mirror, frowning at his ever messy hair. He sighed, glancing at the clock. It was his first day, since he'd only just moved here, and he wanted to make a good impression. He didn't want to be that early though so he lounged on his bed, listening to his iPod calmly.
