the f a c a d esupername:
The Stranger
superpower(s):
Perhaps how his name came along was partly due to his powers. Three complete oddball powers that are yes, useful, but have nothing in common. And none of them are a main, stupefyingly awesome sort of power like the others seem to have. They are strange together indeed. Numero uno, flying. I think the concept of that is basic, the boy defies gravity. Numero dos, invisibility. The Stranger has the ability to melt in to his surroundings and go unnoticed. Easy peasy. Lastly, shifting. The Stranger can shift into any predator animal, but the animal has to be able to have black fur. So yes, cheetahs are out of the question.
age they appear:
Nineteen
persona:
As viewed by the public, The Stranger is like a Batman of sorts. He is a discreet, mysterious guardian angel who comes when called, but then leaves without a trace. He doesn't hang around to flirt or save some cats stuck in trees. No, The Stranger goes in for the kill, then leaves. It's almost as if he walks the fine line between hero and villian.
appearance:
The Stranger has a tall, wiry, athletic build, one of a dancer or swimmer. His body is muscular, yet lithe and quick, slender. Her has long, lank arms and legs, with delicate, spindly fingers. The Stranger has jet black hair that falls just before his deep blue eyes. His eyes of which are actually normal, but in secret identity he hides them with contacts. The rest of him is hidden behind his costume.
costume:
The Stranger wears a simple black masquerade sort of mask to hide his full face. You'd think it wouldn't do much to conceal him, but the public seems to fall for it. He wears a thin, v-neck black tank top that fits his lanky torso. Over that it's either a black hoodie or black leather jacket, depending on his mood and which is actually clean. He wears black pants, no, not leggings. He will not allow himself to hit that rock bottom. His choice of shoes are simple black running shoes that offer support for his feet. He has no identification other than a jagged, stitched white 'S' on the outsides of the heel of his shoes. Perhaps that's another way his supername came about, because no one knew who he was.
motive for heroism/villainy:
Although his full and true history is unknown, it is said that The Stranger was motivated to heroism after his Uncle (and guardian) Red and his sister Natalie, were burned alive in a fire, when he found out years later it was no accident, and that it seemed fairly possible a villian had done it. At first it was out of pure revenge that he created himself as a superhero and set out upon the task of finding and destroying the villian (whoever it was) who had killed his one true family member left, but then it turned into something more. A sense of duty. Guilt? Perhaps. It remains unknown.
closest allies:
Being a bit aloof from most, The Stranger has not had the time nor patience to make allies. Though if he had to choose any, it would be The Shadow, the Illusionist, and the Flame. Or whatever their names were. They seem fairly useful.
s e c r e t identityname & nicknames:
Nathaniel David Jacobson
skills:
Nathan has the most profound sense of memory, even from the smallest things as a kid, or the tiniest detail. He is fast and quick on his feet, and handles his superpowers well. As emotions and anger can make him shift into an animal, he has become skilled at controlling his feelings. His skills for torture and killing lie mainly in knives and arrows, not guns. He prefers older, more silent ways of killing best. Another skill of his is tuning others or a moment out. He doesn't like killing, but he has done it before to criminals, and simply makes himself forget what he is doing and think about something else.
age:
Nineteen
personality:
Nathan in all acuteness, holds somewhat of the same personality of The Stranger within him. But he also has his own personality, the side that he was born and raised with.
Efiicient and Organized; Nathan would make a good secretary. He never double books, forgets, or mischedules. He is tidy and neat. His room looks like something out of a magazine. Dark, masculent, with light personal touches such as his billions of cds and dvds and vinly records. Oh and of course, the books. You can't forget the books. It's like his entire apartment is a library. Everything is exactly in the right place, from the mirrors and pictures on the walls to the magazines stacked neatly on the cofee table. It's perfection. Which suits Nathan. He is not messy in the least. He makes his bed every morning, folds and hangs his clothes neatly, and washes and dries his tablewear after every meal so he can put them away. Some of his tidyness shows through in his persona as The Stranger as well. He never makes a messy kill, and arrests or disarms criminals quickly, cleanly, and smoothly. Maybe he should be called The Perfectionist instead. I guess it just didn't have as nice a ring to it as The Stranger did.
Shy and Quiet; Nathan doesn't need invisibilty to go unoticed. He was one of those intelligent kids in school who kept up his grades and kept his mouth shut, so he was generally not known by many. He had a few friends, all of whom dissapeared in the rearview mirror of his past after he became The Stranger. Ever since then, he's kept to himself, not even making friends at work. Just accquaintances. He keeps mainly to his books, dvds, and music, spending his nights with his one true friends, his dog. It's not that he's meek, Nathan has been known to stand up to bullies. He just doesn't appreciate loud, talkative people. Or having to get strings attacked. especially being The Stranger. No Strings Attached could be his motto. Perhaps the only friendship that would suit him would be the easy, go with the flow kind where two people can enjoy each others company without having to make small talk. Deep conversation or just sitting together reading books would be fine with Nathan. But that's almost more like a relationship. Also the only kind he would ever be able to have. That or one night stands, but of course, being Nathan, he detests those.
Aloof and Reserved; he is icy as winter winds at times. He is a bit detached from this world, having lost so much in his short life and seen so much pain. Killing doesn't seem to bother him any longer. The death of a few for the help of many doesn't seem to strike him as bad either. He was one of the few superheros who actually fought day to day criminals, not giving in to the whole act with the other villians. He's stayed away from most of the others for sometime, only having a few fake fights to make sure he is demed unworthy by the public. Other than that, Nathan keeps to himself as The Stranger, and even as himself, too. But to make him seem as far from The Stranger as he could ever be, Nathan will spew a few jokes or stupid young kid stories to make him seem just..average to those around him at work. He is silent at best and distant at his worst. He's untouchable.
Kind and Polite; this boy, despite his horrible past, has somehow managed to grasp the efficience of manners. He is kind, warm, gentle, and has a true love for animals and nature, though the same can't always be said for people. He is patient, and has a long fuse for most things. He hardly ever shows emotion on his face, or true emotion I should say. He's good at mimicking them and displaying feelings to make himself seem believable. Although he really is mannerly and polite. He is a gentleman, the rare kind that oen doors and help carry things for complete strangers. He is kind to most, unless they decide to test his buttons. He isn't overly fond of jerks, bulies, smugness, taunting, or prying. Although long ago he buried his hate and anger, it's still down there, boiling, waiting for the right person to send it shooting up like flame catching onto paper. But most of the times, Nathan is easy going, relaxed, and the kid who can always keep his cool. He's like the anchor for everyone, and probably wouldn't even flinch in the face of death.
Intelligent; No more need to be said about this one, although I will. Nathan skipped through many grades and graduated college at the age of sixteen. Now he has the free time to do whatever he wishes. He has his parents money and his own that he has been making all the years. And though incredibly brilliant, he continues to enhance his mind with books. He's a regular at the library and his tv is mainly on discovery or national geographic channel. He can't stand stupid people, he just can't. They annoy him like a fly on a horse. Though smart, fairly good looking, and somewhat easy living from the money, he doesn't flaunt any of this. Of course his bosses know he's brilliant, and his collegues know he's pretty smart, but other than that, he doesn't flaunt himself. He wears simple clothes and inexpensive things. He doesn't go to nice dinners or hit clubs. He's down to earth that way.
So in the whole, Nathan is a whole mix of things. Yeah, he's messed up from his past, but he's a good kid with a love for many things. He's humble, smart, and down to earth with a pleasing personality. he can go unnoticed and is wary of having strings attached. He's just...Nathan.
looks:
Nathan is fairly good looking, overall. Perhaps the saying 'Tall, dark, and handsome,' would fit him.
Nathan has average sized feet, nothing to linger about there. He has long, lanky calves of which his muscles are defined, but not big looking. His shinbones juts out, fairly easy to spot. His knees are kinda knobby looking, with only faint traces of their strength and endurance. He has long thighs that are again, muscular but slender looking. This boy is practically all leg. He's long and lanky, as if he's still supposed to be a teenager. He has narrow hips and rock hard abs, complete with a six pack. Hot, right? His ribs are clearly defined, not from starvation now, but from that long sixth month term of torture he was put through. Like the fat will never grow back to make him look full again. And Nathan does tend to eat his food in a rush, hunched over his plate, as if someone was about to take it from him. He has a narrow chest and the same can be said for his shoulders. His back is strong, the one place besides his abs where the muscle is clearly defined. He does have the back and shoulders of a swimmer, strong, although narrow. Nathan has a strong, regular length neck, and an angular face. His nose is pointed and thin, nothing very round about it. In fact, everything about Nathan's face is sharp, no lines of happy there. He has thin, pale pink lips that curve up into a grin around his white, slightly crooked teeth. His canines are slightly longer and sharper looking, whether that be from his shifter side or just the fact he was born that way. He has high, clearly defined cheekbones and a well defined jawline as well. His eyes are sharp and piercing, and the most beautiful deep blue whose depths you could stare into all day. They are rimmed with long, thick black lashes unusual for most guys. He has straight jet black hair that falls just before his eyes and swooshes along the side of his face, feathering out. He has normal ears, and his head is not abnormally large or small. His face is albeit sharp and piercing, can easily break into a friendly grin. Nathan has clear, healthy skin and keeps a good diet and regular fitness routine. His skin is the palest of pale, almost transluscent. If it weren't for that mop of black hair and those endearing blue eyes, he might pass for albino. It seems to be stretched tightly over his skin, so tightly that the blue of his veins is clearly seen, espicially on his hands and arms. His fingers are long and spindly, piano fingers his mothered used to say to him, before she thought he was a freak. He is odd looking, no doubt about that. He hides his true eye colour behind greenish hazel contacts, so he can't be said to look like The Stranger. It's just a precaution, as Nathan is very cautious indeed. And secretive. Nathan is mainly a tall, lanky good looking guy, standing at around 6'0 feet. Which is why he kind of slunches in public, as himself, to not seem like The Stranger in that way either.
clothing style:
Nathan, unlike most guys his age, doesn't dress in the usual flocks of basketball shorts, sport shirts, nike socks, and basketball shoes. He keeps the shoes simple, either vans, converse, or loafers, and wears dark wash jeans most of the time. In the summer, it's cut off khakis or cargo shorts. For shirts, it's either old sport shirts, band or team shirts, or plain, simple v-neck and round-neck short sleeve (in summer) or longsleeve (in winter) shorts. Usually he wears a black sport/rain jacket over this. He has a simple, casual but somewhat professional style.
history:
Nathan's history isn't pretty. He had a messed up family and a cruel fate awaiting him. It seems as if everything's gone wrong in his life, and now that he's just begun getting it back on track, it's like a plane about to crash again. It's a miracle he turned out almost normal, like he is. The kids a miracle.
For whatever reason, Nathan was born with his powers, yet they didn't kick in until he was about the age of eleven. He was born December 9th, ninteen years ago. He was born in Colorado, in a nice little town by the base of a mountain. Mainly deep, dark evergreen forests. The house he grew up in was a large log house situated just outside of town within the woods, by the base of the mountain. His parents were well off and kept to themselves. They were young and already had a number of problems fizzing under the surface. Both his parents were incredibly intelligent, so it's no suprise he turned out to be a genuis. For the first few years of his life, thigns were great. His parents were gone a lot, or just not around, so he became independant and fearless of the woods. His father was a scientist, his mother something or another, Nathan was never told exactly what. Though by now he has guessed it wasn't something to pretty to keep it hush hush from him and his younger sister, Natalie. She was born the complete opposite of him only two years after him. Blonde hair green eyes, and born in June. She was summer, light and fresh and happy, while Nathan was winter, dark and cold and quiet. They were very close, and didn't fight like other siblings. At age nine, (when she was seven) he saved her from near death after she broke through the frozen ice of a lake not far from their house. Nathan was just lucky enough to have come out their with her that day and see it happen. He pulled her out and got her back to the house, where he got her warm and stoped any hypothermia from setting in. Their parents never even knew about it, that's how distant they were. Of course, they became all too jarringly close when Nathan's powers set in. It was a cool, drafty evening of November when they first started. He remebered the shifting came first, as he shivred from cold and then suddenly, painfully shifted into a black wolf before his mothers very eyes. There was a lto of screaming, some guns, until he suddenly changed back. He couldn't control it at first, and so they just kept coming. His parents watched in horror as he changed form one black animal to another, all terrifyingly carnivorous. Next came the invisibility. He would randomly melt into the background, unseen by everyone else. By this point, his parents were trying to tie him up. Or chain him up, rather. But then came flying, and he kept rising up, just above their reach, out of his own accord. Eventually, his body tiring down for the day, the changes stopped, and his parents caught him. They grabbed him and took him down to his fathers lab. Test after test was tried on him to get him to stop, to turn him back. Nathan was poked full of holes from needles and had blood drawn, skin cut. He took medication upon medication. Was tortured, starved, burned, anything that seemed fairly reasonable to his parents was tried on Nathan to get his normal self back. But it just kept happening, all the while he was slowly beginning to learn how to control the powers. Finally, his parents ran out of ideas to help him, and decided he was possessed. That night, sixth months after his powers had first shone, his parents tried to kill him. They took him up to the bathtub and put the water in. But then they held him down and cut his wrists and tried to bleed him to death. But somehow, the superpower in him changed it. He turned into a black raven and escaped from their grasp. All the while Natalie had been peering in, horrified, only now learning what was happening to her brother. She called 911, and her parents were arrested minutes later as police cars came skidding down the road. Nathan had meanwhile turned back to a human, and was on the verge of death. He was sent to the hospital in an ambulance, where he was treated and stayed for three weeks. All the while his parents were charged and accused for attempts at murder, and sentenced to life in prison. After that, Natalie and Nathan were sent to live with their uncle Red, who lived far away in a small cabin in the mountains and forests of some small place in New York. Nathan was absolutely terrified the first time Red saw him change, and thought he would try to kill him, like his parents. But Red didn't care. He helped Nathan become less scared of the world, and actually helped him with his powers. But it seemed Nathan's torture was not yet over. He was Sixteen when Red and Natalie died. Of course, he didn't know it was murder until later. He was just graduating early from college and coming home to see them when he got the news there had been a fire in the woods, of which Natalie and Red had died in. Nathan went back to see the damage, and that was when his keen shifter senses moticed something off. He began searching aorund at night, which is when he sort of adopted his costume. He wore all black and the mask to make sure it was harder to see him and if anyone caught a glimplse of his face they still wouldn't know who it was. He didn't want to use his invisibility power because he hadn't quite honed it perfectly yet, and didn't want to risk the chance of going invisible, then becoming visible again right in front of someone. People seeing his powers still scared him, and made the scars on his wrists burn. He snooped around, figuring out the fire had been arson, made to circle the house and leave no way out. A single clue was left behind, except it resonated everywhere. It was the letter v, burned on every inch of ground, every tree within sight. And most gruesome, on the chests of both Natalie and Red. For some reason unknown, Nathan immediately knew it stood for villian. A real villian, a real murderer who didn't just put on a show. And so his quest to find whoever had done this began. He donned his regular outfit and traveled to where he knew superhumans lived and fought with villians. And so by accident, after he was spotted tracking various villians by the public, he became famous, known as The Stranger, a dark hero, but nevertheless, a hero. And now? Now Nathan is determined to get close with both villians and superheros to figure out who did this to his loved ones. He doesn't know if one of them did it, or if they can lead him to who did it. But Nathan is hell bent on getting revenge for the torturous death of his family.
