Sardonyx stared down at the man for a moment. "It appears so... But surely it's impossible. The Ra'zac were slain more than a century ago..." She looked up as her name was called, and her gaze fell on Lilla. "Yes?" She attempted to keep her voice smooth, but with little success.
Nazaroth had walked over to the man, examining his wounds. He shook his head sadly. I don't believe there's anything we can do for him except comfort him before he passes on. He projected his thoughts to everyone except the younger Rider's and the wounded man from Carvahall, so he wouldn't cause him any more distress.
It pained Sardonyx to hear it, but she knew it was true. The man was on his deathbed. A glaze of sadness crossed over her eyes briefly, but she quickly hid it again. "Yes?" She repeated, lost in her thoughts.
Lilla worked things out in her head before she spoke. Was this man a victim of the Ra'zac? She'd heard about them in stories, and there appeared to be
beak marks on the man, who was apparently a blacksmith. "Erm, I'm thinking that maybe he was a victim of the Ra'zac? I don't know of anyhting else that size that could make... beak marks..." she broke off, embarrased in case she was wrong, and also because she had heard Eke's desperation. "But then where would the eggs have been kept all this time?"

Sardonyx Crimson & Nazaroth
"I don't know... what has become of anyone left in Carvahall..." The man named Stevic replied, and coughed. "I left before the fighting was... completely over. There... There may be a chance..." He shuddered, gave one last look around, and then his eyes glazed over and he was still.
With a little more worry in her voice, she replied to Lilla. "I hate to say it... But I believe you are right. Although we cannot actually say that the Ra'zac have returned until we have more evidence, else the citizens of Alagaesia may not choose to believe us." She stood up, and turned towards everyone else. "I believe it is safe to say that there will be no lessons today..." Her voice trailed off, and Nazaroth picked it up for her.
There is no denying what has happened here today, but life must go on. Our older trainees are dismissed, but those of you who have just acquired an egg or have just bonded with their dragon, we would like to see you now.

Lilla nodded and shuddered, disturbed by the man's death and at the possibility of the Ra'zac being back. She glanced at Eke, hoping her reaction wasn't too bad, and stepped forward slightly. Comet changed his position on Lilla's shoulder and tried to comfort his Rider; he could tell that she was upset by something.

Harvey had been thinking silently, but the serenity he had obtained faded the moment the man ran into the area. "Ra'zac? But.." His voice practically echoed what Sardonyx had said. He stood. "Fighting...surely we should go and do something? I would be willing to fly with someone else to at least check out the area..." He said as the man, named Stevic apparently, passed on suddenly. Zar'roc growled, a sound deep in his throat. A strange shudder ran over his body, from a shake of his snout, all the way down his spine to the tip of his tail. As the shudder passed his feathers lining his spine, each changed into a thick, blood red spine. He lashed his tail angrily. I would be more than happy to leave. His lip curled. I will not allow this to pass unpunished. The dragon said, walking over to Sardonyx and Nazaroth. He knew that even if they said no, and his rider agreed, he would fight tooth and claw to find out what was happening.

Sardonyx Crimson & Nazaroth
"I know you won't." Sardonyx replied to Zar'roc, even surprising Nazaroth. "Which is why I'm not persuading you otherwise. If you and Harvey wish to, you may accompany Nazaroth and I to Carvahall two nights from now, considering we may all need a day to reorganize ourselves. We will be departing from here." Nazaroth hummed his approval, and turned towards Lilla.
As for you, the very first lesson in the Academy after being paired with a dragon is to get to know him. It's really not that hard of a process as it seems. Use our day off to your advantage. The massive dragon turned his gaze onto the worried Eke, and shared a few thoughts with his Rider before continuing. If she so wishes. Came the soft reply.
You may also accompany us to Carvahall if you wish to know the fate of your family.

Zar'roc straightened suddenly, a grin covering his face. He would have wanted to leave at that instant, but he knew that it was foolish to rush into a situation like that. If the Ra'zac were there, they would be gone by the time they arrived.
Maybe that's a good thing. Said Harvey to Zar'roc. We do not want to face them. They are powerful and I am not. Yes, you are a dragon, but even dragons can be taken advantage of. Zar'roc knew his rider was right, but he responded bitterly anyway.
Hah! I could take one measly bird-man any day. It would be hardly a challenge. He yawned, licking a claw. Slowly, his spines began to unfurl into feathers.
"We'd love to accompany you." Said Harvey, nudging Zar'roc in the leg. He snorted, but nodded his large head in agreement.

Eke stared at the blacksmith's corpse, her mind a turmoil of emotions. Sadness, anger but also... hope? Stevic's five final words, "There may be a chance..." , echoed through her head. Eke heard snatches of the conversations going on around her. One word stood out in particular among the others; Ra'zac. Having heard and reheard countless Alagaësian tales, Eke was well aware of the stories of the strange, beetlelike creatures. She didn't know enough to be able to discern fact from fiction, but she'd long come to the conclusion that they were merciless killers, embodiments of cruelty and fear. They terrified her, yet it was a terror easily forgotten about in the light of day, when the cause of the fear was confined to fireside stories. In real life, though... Eke might have shuddered. However, she didn't, instead raising her left hand to her cheek, for her right hand still grasped the dragon egg. Eke felt, with an element of surprise, that her face was smeared with tears. Had she been crying? She slowly began to wipe her face with her sleeve. Eke quickly turned her head as she heard a voice, speaking to her. "You may also accompany us to Carvahall if you wish to know the fate of your family." it said. Eke looked around, prepared to catch the speaker. Then suddenly she remembered something she'd heard in a tale or two. Dragons, especially Riders' Dragons, communicated telepathically. Who was to say that it wasn't happening here? Eke did not attribute the voice to her own imaginings. It was not quite like any sound she'd ever heard, so why would she think of it? Finally, the teenager said aloud "I would like to know my family's fate, please! I'll come to Carvahall with you.".

Sardonyx Crimson & Nazaroth
(OOC: Also, I am sad to say the {msgranger will no longer be roleplaying with us. Therefore, Captain of the Calvary is once again open. And I apologize if my current post isn't very up to standard, but I'm running low on time.)
Sardonyx turned to Eke, her gaze a mix of encouragement, sympathy, and her usual sharpness. "Alright. As I have said before, we will be leaving two nights from now." This time, she addressed Harvey and Zar'roc as well as Eke. "For now, we should just head home. You do have a place to stay, don't you?" Directing her last question to Eke, the director altered her voice so it carried a hint of concern.
Nazaroth stood and began readying himself for flight, stretching his wings so that they shaded over about half of the area. Carefully flicking his tail, so that he would get in some movement but also not knock anyone over, he turned so his upper body was facing his Rider.
