Ryse pulled out her drawing book and grabbed the pencil from where it was beside her. She glanced at the sketched phoenix and set to work making a better version of it. Lines appeared under Phoenix's pencil as she sketched the body of the phoenix first. Then a simple background sketch of the battle behind it. Ryse glanced over at the picture a few times and decided that the new one was much better before she continued to fill in the sketch and erase as she make the full line-art.
"So you know the skeletons. Do you know what happened to..." Ryse trailed off to fish the tall skeleton's name out of her memory and sighed. "Do you know what happened to Papyrus? He seemed uncomfortable enough to go to the nurse's."

“Oh!” Kora has just noticed that Ryse had been speaking to her. “Yeah. On his way to class, he was stopped by some people and mugged. They beat him up pretty badly. He almost passed out before he actually admitted he had to go to the nurse.” She ate some more chips and continued to watch Ryse sketch the Phoenix.

Ryse's face twisted into a small sneer. "That's messed up even where I'm from. You don't mug unless A. You need it. Or B. They deserve it. Besides, you never beat up anyone you mugged! That's just adding insult to injury." Ryse quickly shut up after that and looked down at her drawing. With a small growl, Ryse tossed the burned paper onto the ground. The corners where she'd been holding it had turned black from her flames.
The phoenix humanoid frowned and forced her flames to cool down. But her inspirational moment had passed and she didn't feel like drawing anymore. "Well at least your friend seems okay now."

Kora nodded,”Yeah, the Great Papyrus never stays down for long. Unless I’m mistaken, which I don’t think I am, Sans is going to give the people who did it a BAD TIME.” She said this nonchalantly, since if you got to know Sans, BAD TIMEs were just his normal personality.

Ryse nodded to herself and carefully put her drawing materials back into her bag. "So I see. Papyrus got up pretty quick after being mugged like that." The phoenix monster leaned her head against the wall and sighed. It wasn't too unbearable to be here now that she had made a friend. At her old high-school, everyone avoided the 'Flaming Girl of Death'. Either that or they constantly doused her in water. Ryse shivered at the thought of the water putting out her flames.
"Not on my watch." She muttered under her breath.

“What do you mean ‘not on my watch’? Did something happen?” She looked around in confusion, but everything seemed to be normal, well, what you could consider normal in a high school full of monsters and humans. However, so far she seemed to be the only human in this odd school. Most of her human friends thought monsters were “horrible beasts”. Kora thought the opposite. Not a single monster had hurt her, so they couldn’t be bad. Several of them were pretty kind. Papyrus as an example. And, as far as she’d seen in the little time they’d been talking, Ryse was another example.

Ryse's eyes widened and she felt her flames heat up. Oh man. She'd said that aloud, hadn't she? With a small sigh, she turned to look at Kora with a smile that didn't quite reach her eyes, but who would notice when she was made of fire? "Nothing happened. I'm fine." Ryse internally smacked herself. 'I'm fine' wasn't very convincing. In fact, that was the OPPOSITE of convincing.
She just hoped Kora would let the subject drop.
In fact, Ryse wasn't one to avoid talking or conflict, but she was certainly going to avoid a conversation in which she explained her 'traumatic' experiences. They weren't traumatic, but her physiologist was metaphorically breathing down her neck about it. After a moment, Ryse smiled once again, albeit, a bit ruefully, and put a bit more nonchalance into her voice this time.
"Just fine."

Kora wasn’t at all convinced, that OPPOSITE actually. “Um…okay. If you’re sure you’re alright.” She cast a worried glance over at Ryse and let the subject drop.
“So…,” She said,”do you listen to music?”

Ryse let out a breath she hadn't known she'd been holding in and smiled to herself. When the topic of music came up, her eyes lit up. "Music! I love music. My favorite artists are Three Days Grace, Skillet, and Panic at the Disco." Ryse paused and blushed in embarrassment. "Uh. What are your favorite song artists?"
