"Happiness is what happens when you go to bed on the hottest night of the summer, a night so hot you can't even wear a tshirt and you sleep on top of the sheets instead of under them, although try to sleep is probably more accurate. And then at some point late, late, late at night, say just a bit before dawn, the heat finally breaks and the night turns cool and when ...you briefly wake up, you notice that you're almost chilly, and in your groggy, half-consciousness, you reach over and pull the sheet around you and just that flimsy sheet makes it warm enough and you drift back off into a deep sleep. And it's that reaching, that gesture, that reflex we have to pull what's warm- whether it's something or someone- toward us, that feeling we get when we do that, that feeling of being safe in the world and ready for sleep, that's happiness."

Sighing softly, an almost imperceptable sound, Hanna knelt down so that she was face to face with Daniel in his canine form. She was close, but not too close, maybe a little less than a foot away. After all she'd done, Hanna didn't really feel like making him mad by getting too close. For the briefest of moments, Hanna searched his eyes, possibly trying to understand what she saw there. She knew that understanding was the key to getting along, but it was hard when he had so many damn walls built up. Not wanting to see like she was prying, she turned her head away, just the slightest bit, avoiding looking him in the eyes any longer. "Hey," she chuckled, pulling the leash out of his gleaming canine teeth. With nimble fingers, she slipped the collar over his head. "I'm really sorry," she whispered so only he could hear. After all, she didn't need people thinking she was crazy - holding conversations with her...with her... canine companion. Hanna offered an apologetic smile. "Is there anything I can do," she began, turning away from him and heading towards the nearest park bench. Once there, she tossed the leash and collar into one of the green trash bins nearby. "to make it up to you?" she finished, settling down on the park bench, and turning her attention back to Daniel. Patting the empty spot next to her, she made it clear that she wanted him to sit beside her on the bench, although she said nothing, also showing that the decision was up to him.
Hanna glanced around, looking in particular, in the general direction of the woods, eyeing the dark spaces between the trees almost warily. She'd never been a "believer of the supernatural," that is, until she met Daniel and watched him shift. It was hard for her, to accept that there might be other things out there, things bigger and faster and stronger than Daniel or the other shifters. Speaking of the others, there was something she'd been meaning to ask him. "So, um, exactly how many of you are there?" Closing her eyes, Hanna used her thumb and forefinger to pinch the bridge of her nose, annoyed at her lack of better wording. "I didn't mean it like-" pause "If you don't mind me asking," she finally huffed, deciding that he would know what she meant. Well, hopefully he wouldn't take what she had said the wrong way.
Hanna looked down at her hands, twisting almost nervously of their own accord in her lap. Untangling her fingers, she reached up to play with the ends of her dark hair. She sighed softly again, glancing around once more. She could feel her muscles tightening, getting stiff from sitting for so long. She usually didn't detour to sit on a bench when she was supposed to be running. But underneath the stiffness, there was the familiar ache that came from pushing her muscles to the limit, and ache she'd quite missed in the past month. Maybe there was some way to compromise with Daniel, instead of just dragging him along with her? Even if she couldn't run everyday, maybe twice a week, maybe more, maybe less. Who knows?
Shrugging, she leaned forward, stretching out the muscles in her lower back before standing up and facing Daniel. "C'mon, let's go home," she murmured in her usual quiet manner. Spinning on her heel, she picked up the pace once more, glancing over her shoulder a couple of times at first to make sure that she didn't stray too far from Daniel. Once she fell into her familiar pace, she didn't glance back as much. By the time they reached the apartment building, Hanna was slightly red-faced. She doubled over, elbows on her knees, long dark hair obscuring some of her face. Grimacing, she leaned back, placing the palms of her hands against the wall and bring her left leg forward, stretching out her calf muscles. Before meeting Daniel, she ran every morning, sometimes every other morning, but usually every morning. But since she'd learned of their curse, she hadn't been able to get out for a run, one thing in particular that had been driving her crazy. But the long month that had passed since the curse, had left her more out of shape than usual, although she was considerably more athletic than some of the other girls her age.
Upon finishing her stretching, Hanna opened the door for Daniel, gesturing for him to lead the way up the stairs to their apartment. She followed at a leisurely pace, content to take her time. For a bit, she considered asking him when he was going to change back, but Hanna thought better of it, deciding that she had bothered him enough for one day. She put the key into the lock and let them both back into their home.
