(Ack, I'm so sorry -and beginning to feel rather akin to a broken record- about the delay! This week was crazy, and the worst of it's finally passed, and I've snatched some time for a quick reply! c: )

A R I I N G V A R S V E R R I R

Ari felt his blood slow, thickening as it turned to sludge, then ice. Wide brown eyes flickered to the two blades the Ice Girl had just fastened smoothly to her belt, mouth like sandpaper. She motioned swiftly, and, after staring at the waving hand for a moment, felt the movement's meaning click into place. Oh. She wanted him to follow.
Ari tugged his gaze from the Ice Girl, drawing it to his feet, brow furrowing with plainly-written anxiety. The Ice Girl could likely smell the fear radiating from him in rancid waves -she was predator enough. Has she singled him out -the weakest in the herd? Was this it, then? Was she leading him away, to pounce at a distance, knives like long fangs in her hands, slicing downwards to imbed themselves in his soft, vulnerable form?
Something soft brushed against his arm, and Ari almost yelped involuntarily, biting his tongue to quell the noise. His heartbeat picked up, racing in his ears. Serenity offered him a reassuring smile, drawing her arm away. Thankfulness blossomed in him, a flower opening its petals to welcome the spring. He watched her retreat for a beat, before remembering that the Ice Girl was waiting. The flower promptly withered and died. She would likely be less than pleased with his hesitation. It was as clear a sign of weakness as dropping to all fours and rolling belly-up in front of her. Fleetingly, he wondered if that would be a feasible method of currying her favour.
Forcing his feet to move, Ari swallowed the distance between himself and the predatory girl. His heart beat out an erratic rhythm in tandem with his feet. Thump-tha-thump/shuffle-drag-shuffle. Far too soon, he was standing right in front of her, close enough to see the flecks of lighter colour in the feral green of her eyes. He swallowed dryly, and the noise was as loud as the cracking of ice under one's feet in his ears.
"You wanted me?" he offered, hands clenched into fists so tightly that his palms were beginning to ache from the pressure, even through the thick hide of his mittens. He rocked forward on his feet -then, realizing that that motion was only drawing him closer to Eloise- quickly drew himself away, sending a foot shooting backwards to stop himself from falling flat upon his face. Excellent second impression, piped up the cynical voice in his head. If she wasn't entirely assured of your uselessness before, she certainly will be now. Ari took his front teeth to his lip again, biting so hard that small drops of cheery-red blood began to well up from the wound. The burst of pain that accompanied it focused the mad whirlwind of his thoughts; a scalpel, drawing a clean line. His blood tasted of metal -was it an omen, a precursor of the untimely end he was to meet at the hand of the Ice Girl's blades?
Ari prayed otherwise.

    Eloise Amelia Blackwithe
    {guide; ying} {loveless} {female}
    the c o l d hunter

Eloise twerked an eyebrow in question. "Yes, it's about time. The girls might be done by the time we start. C'mon." She snarled, grabbing his right arm and pulling him forward to get his momentum going in her direction. She didn't bother waiting for him. She marched forward, her arrows rattling softly together in her quiver. The sleek bow was gripped tightly in her right hand, a single arrow entwined between her fingers.

She made it over the first hill, and was out of sight from the rest of the girls. Here, she beckoned Ari over to her. "Stand here." She ordered, pointing to a spot next to her. Without waiting to make sure he comprehended the demand, she took about 8 paces forward. She dropped her sack into the snow, the gray material in stark contrast with the blinding white snow. She returned to her original position next to Ari and removed both of her knives. She grabbed his wrist and twisted it, pulling him close in this manipulated stance. "Listen here, brat. I run this trip, got it. I run it smoothly and efficiently so we all don't get killed out here. Understand what I'm saying? What I say, goes. But you seem to be the weakest link in this chain, so I've decided to teach you a private lesson."

With that, she thrusted him into the snow, releasing him. She drew back one of her blades, raising it threateningly. With a flawless motion, she threw it 7 inches away from Ari's head. She watched him with her wild green eyes, scanning him over. "Pick it up. I'm going to teach you how to kill." She ordered, turning her back to him and walking four paces away, then turned again, ready. She was poised to strike, her second blade that she still held was in her right hand menacingly. She was ready. This is what Eloise did, it's what she loved to do.

——Watching as Ari was dragged away and out of her line of vision Serenity sighed quietly, she didn't like this girl of ice, in all honesty she didn't trust her. The girl of ice was all about survival and Serenity was afraid that if someone was weak and put the girl of ice’s survival on the line…well she was scared that, that person might be considered expendable. Given that she and Ari seemed to be the weakest, most anti-social of the group Serenity was afraid that they would be left behind and most likely die. Maybe this was just an overreaction of an already scared and -a little- exhausted mind yet Serenity couldn’t help but think these things as she packed snow onto crudely erected igloo. As the girl Krystal beckoned to her Serenity gave her all the half smile that she could muster when Krystal tried to reassure her -That’s what I’m worried about though- she thought not mouthing the words for fear of making an already present gap grow wider. Moving towards Krystal Serenity nodded to her in response to the first question, however when the girl began raining down conversation and questions Serenity had to turn to look at the girl with a slightly panicked look on her face “I-uh, I…um good? And-eh, I…” her mouth opened before she’d formed proper responses and now she was stammering for words, any words really. As they arrived at the dead tree Serenity inhaled, feeling the cold expanding from her lungs into the rest of her body “No…I-it’s ok, I’m not good at talking so…you know? It’s nice-I, I mean to talk to someone-…” even if it wasn’t that much better than her bumbling attempts it was better than nothing. Clearing her throat Serenity began breaking off relatively good sized pieces of wood.

The answer of course was blatantly obvious of course, yes he was a threat and yes he could beat her. She didn't have food though and she wasn't encroaching on his territory so he wouldn't fight her- he was after all a better wolverine than that. Granted he wasn't that much better but he was still...yeah, he was better than fighting an injured opponent for no apparent reason other than he felt like it. When the feline hissed her question at him Cuán bunched his shoulders in a defensive stance, he'd only asked a simple question, granted it may not have been worded correctly...or respectfully but still. "Cuán." he told the feline "Not that it's any of your business." he added his fangs flashing. He could tell that she wanted him to go and so, just cause he was so nice, he backed away slowly "Whatever," he said grudgingly "I'm goin'" he said finally turning back to follow the teens who had finally started to travel towards the winter home and, incidentally, a herd of elk.

Krystal smiled as Alena mentioned her possession of a tinderbox. "That's great! Or else we'll probably never get the fire going," she replied gratefully with a laugh, before heading off with Serenity close behind. She slowed her speech hesitantly as the other girl started stammering in an effort to keep up with her crazy questions, instead just smiling and nodding at Serenity's responses. "Yeah," she agreed whole-heartedly, "it's great to talk to people. I'd die if I were out here alone, and I do wish our Guides would show themselves soon! We've hardly made any progress!" She laughed at her own whining, following Serenity and beginning to break off good-sized branches for the fire. What they got from the poor withered tree was hardly enough though, especially if they wanted the fire to last through the night. "Let's bring this lot back before making another trip, so Alena can start the fire and begin cooking. I'm starved, aren't you?" Her eyes crinkled to form half-moons as she smiled, and she gave Serenity a friendly nudge with her shoulder. As she walked, she hoped that the others had been packing snow on the igloo as ordered, or Eloise wouldn't be happy when she returned.

Ioree
>> The conflicted kitty|| Female || Partnered with Ari <<
____________________________

For some reason, Ioree decided to get closer to the group of people by transferring from tree to tree instead of walking solemnly on the snowy ground. Perhaps it was because she's able to have a better sight of the humans, or it could be that the act of jumping from one branch to another, though more energy-consuming, added excitement to her otherwise short and lonely trip. She would really like to have company now, but that would have to wait. Then again, once faced with the humans and fellow animal guides, she'd probably turn on her almost-never-fading bravado. Why'd she have to do it again? To make the audience forget the fact that she was a mere domesticated feline and let them view her as something greater? Ioree shook her head; she was being silly. It wasn't the time to sulk or whatever it is she's doing. She then let out a sigh as she readied herself to pounce on a branch that was positioned somewhat lower than the one she had been standing on. Before she did, however, she caught a glimpse of a shining, silvery color from below the plant form. She looked down to see a medium-sized animal from the canine family.

Interesting creature, the cat mentally commented inside her head, noting the striking color of the wolf. She wondered whether it was a guide as well; if it were, then she'd definitely try to have small talk with it, most likely just to ask how it obtained its appearance. For all she knew, that sort of combination was quite rare. Or I simply know almost nothing regarding wolves. Which was true. Letting a small, subtle smile spread across her feline face for a while, Ioree continued with her tree-travelling, ignoring the increasing weariness her body was experiencing.

It wasn't too long, after all, before she managed to come near enough for her to see the humans a bit more clearly. Apparently, they separated into groups, or pairs, and Ioree thought they had some sort of plan that had something to do with the igloo which was crafted by their human hands. She swore she'd try creating her own snowy masterpiece sometime. Just when another smile was about to form, she felt a short pain on her lower kitty lip. It struck her as odd, seeing as it hadn't made any contact with any painful object; and besides, she was on a tree bark, sitting. Even if she lost balance, which was ridiculously improbable, her chin would be the one to say hi to pain. Now it worried her, so Ioree immediately turned her head to the direction of the group. From what she could see with those olive-green orbs that possess the ability to see, no one was hurt... or had fallen. She couldn't figure out what could have caused the unpleasant sensation, but since it wasn't excruciating or something terrible, she merely let it slide, her mind turning its focus on something else.
"How, exactly, do we know whose guide is who?" Somehow, she deliberately raised her voice, hoping someone near would grant her an answer. Any answer would probably do, really.

[[Technically senseless, buuut... yeah, I got nothing. ^^']]
Yes, um, hi there.

A l e n a
Alena's eyes narrowed as she attempted to descry either Eloise or Ari from the milky white that had engulfed the pair. Naturally, she'd be curious of anybody wandering off from the group but still, she felt her adrenaline spike as she prepared to follow, her muscles bunching effortlessly as she readied herself to spring. When she was sure they had gone far enough, probably just over the face of a small hill of snow, she began her pursuit. Leaping cleanly over the side of the igloo, she wasted no time as she settled into a steady run, grazing easily over their tracks.
What could Eloise- the girl who had produced fish in their frozen wasteland- possibly have to do with the poor boy she had dragged off? The light that had glinted off of the girl's daggers was reincarnated in Alena's doe-like eyes as her mind rattled off through countless possibilities. In spite of herself, she grew quite apprehensive, and her pace quickened considerably. Part of her brain jeered at her- there was nothing suspicious going on at all, she was just overreacting- while the other sowed seeds of discord in her mind and spurred her feet into action.
As her mind began to wander, Alena's eyes searched ravenously for any sign of either, but the unearthly hand responsible for spilling ink and bringing life to the snowy white canvas had left only the thin outline of trees to her back. The emptiness seemed to stretch out for miles, rolling over itself into oblivion, to the point where the only thing that assured Alena of her existence were the frozen imprints that guided her to her quarry. It certainly couldn't have been that long, she had just set out moments before, but the unwelcome sense of foreboding she felt for the small boy's outcome would not allow for her to relent.
Maybe they're going to try and take down one of the elk.. yeah they're probably just off killing some elk, her mind offered apathetically, but Alena couldn't help but picture Eloise's phlegmatic visage- as calm as the girl was, something in Alena's gut warned her of insidious goings-on just above the brow of the hill she had come to. She scaled the side and, despite her muddled thoughts, her stance shifted mechanically and she went from a frantic tangle of limbs and into a trained hunter's crouch as her gaze focused on the scene below her. Recognizing the stance that Eloise had resumed, the bestial posture of one prepared to strike, to strike and to slash with mirth, as Alena was all to familiar, nearly sent her toppling over the slope. But instead, she waited, drawing her own blade as she watched the two carefully. Only the possibility that the blonde-haired girl might be teaching Ari how to fight- that is, if he couldn't wield a blade already- kept her idle in a strained crouch. If things took a turn for the worse, she'd be ready to spring to Ari's aid.

Watching silently as the teens finally began to move with some purpose, Ying took to the air again, not wanting them to get too far away. His sharp eyes took in the scene swiftly - the girl who had left him the fish earlier had, unsurprsingly, taken charge and was in the midst of trying to build a shelter of some sort. Fluttering down to a low branch, the eagle ruffled his feathers and prepared to be sitting motionless for quite a while. As he watched the shelter slowly take shape and the small group scatter in various directions, he tried to search his mind for any clue on his other half. It was a girl, that much he was certain off, and he gave a quiet sigh - he hoped she wasn't that insanely cheerful one, or he would probably go crazy. Any of the quieter females would be ideal, although of course he had a slight preference towards the strong, independent one. Her emotions - pleased yet slightly annoyed - offered no suggestion as to her identity at the moment, but Ying wasn't adverse to waiting patiently for the time when all would be revealed. His train of thought was abruptly interrupted by a sudden slight shaking of the tree he was residing in, and he peered around rather severely, only to see a small grey cat landing in his tree with surprising dexterity. Blinking with annoyance and seeing that the cat was fixated on a nearby wolf, Ying turned away with a disgruntled snort, although he wasn't really surprised when he heard a light, musical voice demanded to know how to identify their guides behind him. Turning once more, he said rather sharply, "You use your brains, of course, and be sensible." Shaking his head in exasperation, he pointed out, "Process of elimination, really. That boy with the injured head will be easiest to match with his Guide, and we just go from there."

——As the pile of kindling grew into a suitable sized pile -at least the most the small bush could provide- at their feet Serenity started to pick up the sticks. “S-sounds good,” the small girl said straightening up with a bundle of kindling cradled in her arms “maybe a little.” she admitted to Krystal’s next question. A little might’ve been a bit of an understatement, she was starving but she didn’t want to seem -once again- weak. Walking back towards their little camp Serenity noticed that Alena was gone, dropping her bundle beside the igloo Serenity turned her head to see if the red haired girl had wandered off in search of something. Spotting a newer pair of tracks beside the ones left by the ice girl and Ari Serenity’s brow furrowed-had the ice girl asked for Alena’s help? Or had she gone off on her own? Shaking her head Serenity glanced at Krystal “Ar-uh, are you sure that Ari and uh-, the…girl are ok?” she asked tentatively, she didn’t want to seem judge-mental towards the ice girl but she couldn’t help but distrust her, especially after the poisonous glare she’d bestowed upon Ari.
