-----sometimes things just come easy to people. singing, a sport, beauty... as i looked apon the girls walking down the boardwalk and felt a surreal effect of jealousy. i, of all people, was jealous of them and their humanity. appearing innocent and beautiful, most wore clothes i'd yet to be ever able to afford, or even pull off if i did. i know parents always say a reputation can be changed if you work hard for it, that you can always take back what you've done, but in this case they're wrong. i sighed. in the corner of my eye, a group of girls were boarding the roller coaster. they didnt have to worry about their hair when they got off, because even with their hair a wild and tangled mess, they'd still put the sea to shame with their graceful selves. in front of me, a couple walked hand in hand. i scowled. couldnt they get a room? all around me, things and events were jabbing at my side, rubbing it in that those within all had something i didnt. but i had something they didnt.
-----i waited until there was no one around to catch me. i climbed over the brass chain and extended my leg downward, reaching far until my sandel was on the plank of the ladder. i was climbing down, down from the crowds of people apon the boardwalk, down into the atlantic ocean. i was only a quarter of the way down, hands grazing the wood as i made my way down, feet settling themselves nicely, when the salt in the air sent me in what i called a trance. it was luring me in, just like a siren's call, so much that i jumped off and fell down seventy percent of the ladder, landing into the chilly waters. from the moment my toes touched the water, i began count. one. it was only cold for a moment. the water was deep; i could see it as i opened my eyes, the vast blue before me, a column of the pier infront of me covered in small clams and crabs. two. three. even from how far deep i was, i could still hear a boat's horn a while away. four. i kicked my legs frantically, moving my arms in a motion that made it look as if i was reaching to grab something, but there was nothing to grab. i pushed myself towards the surface. five. six. seven. my head broke the surface quickly, water washing over my beach blonde hair like a wave did over the tide pools. eight. my legs were still legs, kicking rythemicly to keep me afloat. i looked up at the pier and froze. a little head was peering down at me. i could feel my heart quicken in pace. nine. all i could hear was a muffled voice, one too high to be an adults but a young child, exclaim, "police! she fell!"
-----ten. eleven. much to my dismay, my two legs collided and were replaced with a golden honey tail. perfect timing, if i did say so sarcastically. i ducked my head quickly, quick enough to not hear what the child had to say about me next, but not fast enough to see his jaw drop of both confusion and shock. as i swam away, i had to sumbit to the smile breaching apon my face. wow. eleven seconds. it usually takes longer than that. my way of swimming would raise eyebrows to a human, but to a mermaid, it was a natural instinct: hands extended in what appeared to be like an arch, core of the body moving up and down rythemicly, and tail flapping behind like a dog's ears would flap in the wind. it proved to be a graceful way of swimming.
----- i'd been a mermaid long enough to know my way around the waters around lindon. i knew how to be able to swim through the boat pier without being seen by a sailor, and i knew where the rock pilars where as to not get tangled within the vast weeds. call it a sixth sense. i made it out of the tiny gulf with ease, only endless atlantic ocean and small fragments of land ahead of me. i swam. not because there was nothing else to do, but because just beyond the gates that welcomed boats into the harbor, a whale called; no, a group of whales called. a pod. my pace quickened within the water, speed well enough that my pale locks were smoothed back against my skull, out of my eyesight. my tail had light flecks of blue, mirroring thw waters around me, against the golden scales. one would call me beautiful. i didnt think so, but what was beautiful was the massive creatures before me. they were so large that twenty plus of me could fit inside just one of them, and there were six. orcas, they were. their black and white coloration was mesmerizing, jaws parted to let out a series of clicks and clacks. all but one had perfectly erect dorsal fins, and for that i took him as the leader; he was the one to approach me first. even under the water, so deep you'd have to swim for miles just to catch a meer glimpse of the sandy bottom, i found myself blushing. i gingerly lifted my hand and placed it apon his snout. a low rumble mixed with low clicks formed beneath and just as i was about to submit, i remembered this was a whale i was with, not a dog. their sounds didnt mean the same, nor did they sound as enchanting. the others were some what shreaking, conversing in their own tongue. i swam forth, weaving my way in and out, to and from between the water mammals. they seemed to be enjoying themselves.
-----in the midst of my fairytale come true, a much deeper rumble filled my ears as well as the orcas'. it was enough to scare them away, but not me. i recognized the odd clatter of metal anywhere, not a normal propelar's usual tune. finn marquee had what i joked 'a piece of junk for a boat'. in fact, it sounded like my grandfather's old bike like turning the key to start the thing was biting off more than it could chew. i waited until the pod of whales faded into the blue midst before i swam to great the friend. his bronze hair was evidently combed by the wind, deep blue eyes vibrant against the blue backround that seemed endless. his grin just about warmed my heart. "hey stranger. fancy meeting you here." he was just about as accustomed to my sarcasim as i was, in between by apprehensive and observant self; he was the one who pulled, more like yanked, it out of me. i had no reason to be dispursed around him, as much as i prefered to be. i liked being alone but when any sight or sound of him hit me, and boy did it hit hard, it was like human contact was all i craved. it was like the saltwater drawing me in, a mermaid's song drawing a human in. contagious, isn't it?

{ male } { crushless } { the 'cheeky' one }

      "Jake, come on Buddy get up. You've been asleep for hours now." his father, Dylan said, opening the boys window shades. He let out a groan, half asleep he mumbled "Don't you have work?" and let out a yawn, forcing his eyes to open. "I've got the day off today, to spend it with my son. He needs a little healing time after that heartbreak." his father said, grabbing some clothes out of his dresser putting it on the curly haired boy's bed. Jake rolled his eyes looking at his dad mumbling "I'm not eight dad, I can dress myself. And now you decide to spend some time with me? After leaving me home alone since I was ten? I'd rather sleep all day and do nothing." Okay, maybe he was a little too harsh on his dad for blowing him off like that. Biting his lip, his dad nodded replying "Alright. I'll be downstairs if you need me." and got up walking back downstairs. Jake rolled his eyes, climbing out of bed. So now what was he going to do? He had no one to hang out with, no one to cuddle with at the beach anymore. He's really just been inside all day ever since the breakup. Looking into the mirror, he sighed looking at his reflection. His hair was a mess, bag under his eyes. Beginning to get pale for being inside too long. His hair was starting to get long, and it was time for a little trim. Pulling open the drawer, he dug through the mess grabbing a container of toothpaste and reached for his toothbrush which was rested on the sink. Squeezing some toothpaste out of the container, onto the toothbrush, he stuck it in his mouth, tiredly beginning to brush his teeth.

      He flicked his hair around before sliding his phone into his pocket, along with his wallet and walked down the stairs. Brown curls bouncing lightly as he did. "Where you off to?" he heard his dad ask as he opened the door. "Um, I'm just going to walk on the beach, I guess." he replied, looking over his dad who was looking over a newspaper in the kitchen, as he munched away on some cereal. His dad nodded, signaling him to go and pulled the newspaper back over his face reading it. Hesitating a bit, he walked out the door, practically feeling like a vampire as he walked into the sunlight. The only good thing about his tiny house, was that it wasn't far from the beach. Maybe a few blocks away. Barely. He looked around, breathing in the nice cool air, and looked down at his phone as he began to walk to the beach. Placing his ear phones in his ears, he started blasting music from his phone. He did get a few stares from people, but he could care less. It was only music, it wasn't going to kill them.

{{ sorry it's like pretty bad, i just woke up like two hours ago, and i'm still a bit tired. it should start to get better throughout the day, if i have the muse to like right.. }}

      --------Sailing.
      --------Sailing was life. Sailing was everything one could wish for - endless freedom, never-ending possibilities. It wasn't just a sport, or a recreation - it was a lifestyle; a lifestyle chosen by the certain few who valued their freedom and possibilities. Everything called to him. The fun, the excitment, the challenge. The sea. Everything about sailing drew him in. All his life he'd been upon the water - just a few weeks after he'd been born his father introduced him to this great perhaps of a life in the endless stretch of water.
      --------Those few weeks were all it took.
      --------Many would call it an addiction - an addiction that could never be broken. Some called it merely a hobby - something he wasted his time on for a few moments of enjoyment. But in his eyes? This was, in fact, a lifestyle. A lifestyle that he embraced warmly. It only took him a few years to be able to control his father's sleek boat on his own. He was fifteen when his father permitted him to sail on the open seas alone. Eighteen was the year he purchased a boat of his own. Old and worn, the boat looked like a wreck; that is, until he set his capable hads to it. Weeks went by, and the heap of metal steadily turned to a beautiful craft. He'd called on a friend to help paint the boat's exterior and create the mural that adorned the deck - the kracken, as a joke. A name was painted on last, only three simple words: The Troian Dreamer. It was perfect. Well, to him, anyways. But isn't that all that matters? It was perfect to him. Finn Marquee. The one and only owner of his own boat; a boat which he devoted nearly two years to recieve. Two years of saving up every penny he earned from mowing lawns and working in the local ice cream parlour, two years of searching for the perfect boat. Two years of absolute heaven.
      --------The boat was his great escape, his safe harbor. Hours upon hours were spent on it's deck, floowing maps and finding new treasurs with each ride he took. The boat was his endless fredom, his possibility. And, of course, it was full of possibility, chance, lucky and destiny itself. For on this boat was the first time he spotted her.
      --------Maisey Harris.
      --------A mermaid.
      --------It was fall when he discovered her secret. The fish that year were unusually high in numbers, so many fisherman were taking this as an oppertunity to up their game. Finn needed some extra income to buy new ropes for the Dreamer, for they were becomming frayed and unsafe. He offered his services to the popular seafood resturaunts, promising fresh fish each day right on time for dinner. A few finally agreed and he was off, hauling in the smelly creatures for a reasonable price. Every day was the same: waking at the crack of dawn to prepare his boat, eating breakfast as he readied the nets, then off he went for hours. He came back to shore for lunch, but that was it. Once he obtained the required amout, he returned to the docks to relay the fish the the resturaunt owners in exchange for his daily amount of money. But one day changed his life entirely.
      --------He found her hanging on his net, her small hand wrapped around one of the wriggling fish. Not a word was said; only his eyes seemed to speak. They were cautious yet strangely gentle - he didn't want her to be frightened, of course. After that, it was decided that he'd never tell a soul of what he'd seen. The pair became nearly insepperable - great friends, to say the least. It was during the early stages of their friendship that his current girlfriend, Piper, noticed a change and reacted the way any girlfriend would react - hurt. Finn made sure to give her extra affection, then, and it stayed that way ever since.
      --------He often took her out on the Dreamer. She never seemed interested in looking out at the water or taking a dive in with him, but he never minded - whatever made her happy made him happy. It was exactly this way as he took her out today. He didn't expect her to dive in with him and wasn't bothered by the fact, but. . . he wanted to see if there was an underlying factor that he'd never before noticed. Was she afraid of the water? Well, if she was she wouldn't have ever made the decision to date him. Maybe she disliked getting wet? Maybe. But, oh, the possibilities were endless when it came to things like this! So he simply let it go.
      --------Behind the wheel of his boat, Finn felt in command of his surroundings. The hull of the Dreamer pierced the waves where he chose; he was always chasing the sun. It was a beautiful feeling, really. The wind whipping across his sun-warmed skin and tossing his hair playfully while a wide, carefree grin streached across his face was all he wanted to feel - all he ever wanted to feel. If he had a choice, Finn would choose to be on the ocean for the remainder of his days. But alas, this wasn't a fantasy. This was reality. Life always seemed to get in his way of his dreams; a truly unfortunate fate he held. Life wasn't terrible to him, considering - he had fabulous parents and an amazing sister, a lovely girlfriend and a brilliant best friend. What more could a man ask for? Not much.
      --------A femanine voice pierced through his reverie, bringing him back to reality. Maisey's blonde head bobbed in the waves beside his boat, bringing a startled glow to his eyes. Her comment made his lips slide into an easy, lopsided grin, his eyes meeting her with a friendly glimmer.
      --------"Well, well, well. Look what the tide washed in," he called to her, smirking as he moved away from the wheel to the edge of the deck. Finn was careful to keep his voice moderately low, though - he didn't want to alert Piper to come over. Lord knows he'd have a ton of explaining to do. He casually leaned forward, his chest hovering over the edge of the ropes. A push to his back and he'd have tumbled over into the sea.
      --------"What are you doing out here? Couldn't find anybody who could stand you on land?" Of course he was teasing. Finn and Maisey had a certain sense of ease around eachother. They could tease one-another and know they weren't being serious; honestly, it was refreshing. It gave him a chance to breathe.
      --------And lord only knows how easily one could get sick of Lindon.

    Athene, for one, had always been much too curious for her own safety. Although curiosity is a gift some may never venture to obtain, the very thing can be malignant to one's self being. As some people use to take this feature to their advantage, and become brilliant scientists, or inventors, perhaps even cure the deadly disease known as 'cancer', Athene found this as her very own death trap. The curly haired lady found herself making a move, and thinking about the risks after, which lead to dire situations, in which she can get herself discovered. It was a risky thing to do; be curious. However, Athene tended to look on the brighter side of the subject. If she weren't curious, what adventure would there be in her life? Despite the fact that she grows a tail the second she touches water, a very sleek, blue tail, being a mermaid was normal to her. No, the girl had not been such a fairy tale creature all her life, but she had been one long enough to understand that this was not normal to humanity.
    Athene envied those who didn't have to hide themselves away in the sea. Those people who can freely express their true selves, and never live with regret or secrets. Those people were humans. And at times, Athene couldn't believe such people could take their lives for granted. Their very, very fragile, and useful lives that could instantly, if they wanted, in one second, change the entire course of history. They simply don't understand the effect that they can have. They're all sparks. And some sparks are more ablaze than the others, but the fire wouldn't be the same without them all. They just need a bit more knowledge.
    Athene had been sitting on a small, wooden bench, fit for two, at the side of the boardwalk. Her deep, forest green eyes had been observing the people from afar. She found herself drifting off in their presence, as crowds of them filed in like waves crashing into the shore. Although there were many, and many of them would catch a sight of her, Athene began to back away, nearing the metal, brass colored chain that hung rustily behind her. She had already heard the splash of another falling into the depths, and at the corner of her eye, she could see Maisey fleeing from the curious eyes of humans. She glanced towards the boy, left dumbfounded by the pier. She found herself laughing at this, as he desperately explained to the people around him what he had just witnessed. And the people laughed. Because the mere thought of a mermaid was ridiculous. Because they were ridiculous, and unknown.
    Athene decided that if she would go down the same path, there would be some raised eyebrows if two people had mirrored sights. he glanced back at the ladder, which she was grown to be so fond of. It led to where she had no secrets, no regrets, and she was simply free. Simply free from the burden that had been bestowed upon her. It wasn't that Athene disliked the fact she was a mermaid, but she would rather be one of the two; mermaid or human. Being both was truly a lot of work.
    The curly brunette briskly walked down the boardwalk, avoiding skin contact. She wasn't risking having to flop down the boardwalk because someone accidentally spilled their drink on her. So she sauntered towards the fishing pier, which was barren of people. They were all busy enjoying themselves at the boardwalk. She turned for a moment, reassuring herself that she was infact, alone. And she was. So without hesitation, or any thought of the risks, Athene turned around, facing the boardwalk, and spread out her arms. She inhaled deeply, silently, and serenely, as she closed her eyes slowly. And she slowly fell backwards, a mere second in the air, before the depths of the ocean enveloped her, swallowing her body.

"For I am a no human, and, still, I am no monster. For I. have no appearance, as I have salt water in my veins. I am just a fish. a small fish in a pond of big fish. "
can this be real? is it real? the girl had awoken from a dream, that felt real. yet she couldn't tell f it was real. her father was sick. paralyzed really. she was mermaid. she chuckled. she wasn't a mermaid. she did this to herself every morning. she got her self up out her warm, sweet scented bed and pulled herself into her bathroom. the cream color made her even more sleepy, but she turned on the water, and ran her hands under it. 'one,' she sighed, 'two, three, four.' she let out a yawn 'five, six, seven.' she turned off the foist. 'eight, nine.' she opened her brain to possibilities. 'wait why am i count~' she fell on to her floor and she let a scream. ' noah! are you okay?" her dad asked from below the room. 'yeah! just slipped on my clothes.' 'oh okay' her father knew about the tail, but he thought his daughter was keeping it close, because she was scared. and she was. as soon as the tail disapered, and her legs were back, she let out a sigh, and pushed her self up, and surged through her clothes. 'i guess it is real, just like normal.' she threw her self in a pair of jean shorts, that had a crisp blue color, and a cream ruffled shirt, completing the look with a pair of sun glasses, and sandals. she grasped her comb, and forced her hair into its wavy curls, that fell right over her shoulder blades. as soon as money was in her pocket, she rushed down the stairs, to find her brother danny, on the couch watching tom and jerry, her father on the recliner, also his third child, and her mother cooking breakfast. 'im going own to the beach, see y'all later.' noah smiled, gave her brother a hug, and kissed her parents on the cheek before exciting the house, just like she did every day. the blazing sun made her cringe her eyes, and rub them with a constant motion, adjusting to the sun within moments. her phone buzzed in her pocket to find her friend, jessica waiting at the beach, wanting to surf. 'sorry not today,' she replied with a a click of a send button. her lips let out a sigh, and she forced her self over to the amusement park. so man people. a child tugging at her, look for him mom, who stood behind him. kids kissing. yuck. rides of water were trickling the ground. noah had to move towards the food court in order to get away from the water. the rocky side of the beach, was right around the corner. she forced her self to speed walk. she water was calling her name. 'noah, common.' like danny asking for ice cream. 'no danny its bad for you.' the water was like a drug, and noah was addicted to it. as she pulled her self under the chain blocking the beach for construction, people stared, but she waved there faces off. as she crouched behind a tree, before rushing towards a hill, which hid a cave of salt water. she didn't swim there, but her stuff stayed there. she had a small hole in the sand, before placing her phone, and money inside. now, the fun part.she pulled her self over towards the crashing tide, letting it hit her face with pebbles of sand. the wind made her feel free, like she was flying, and she walked out into the water, and as soon as the tide hit her thighs, she dove into the water. 'one.' fish were rushing by. 'two, three.' the sound of dolphin, and orca's clicking. 'four, five, six, seven.' her legs tingled. 'eight, nine, ten.' her breath was getting larger. 'eleven, twelve.' plop. her blue tail which carried specks of gold and purple forced her forwards towards open waves. it was beautiful really. seaweed was soft and gentle against her tail, and noah loved it. she would pluck it from the ground and tie it in her hair, around her wrist, like accessories for the tail. it would come off with the force of the sea, but it was still fun. it made her blend in. she could hear orcas, but it most likely another mermaid. isn't that what shes looking for? no anymore. a turtle swam by with a few others following, and noah couldn't help but follow. her hands trailed across the rough shell housing in the beautiful sea creature. as they led her to a small reef of coral, sea urchins, fish, little nemo's. danny's favorite. sometimes noah would bring him back a fish, and they had like twenty. no more for danny. when the sound of clicks entered her hearing range, her tail keeping her upright, she smiled. 'dolphins.' bubbles escaped her mouth, as she took in water. it tasted like air, and was like air, and her lungs loved it. her tail flushed her out of the reef, and towards the clicking. dolphins were one of noahs favorite. there soft grey skin held a beautiful creature, as she swam up next to them, one came up her hand rolled against it skin cupping it muzzle. her lips kissed its top, before smiling and waving it away. she kept a slow pace behind them, watching the coral below and the tide above. beautiful. just beautiful. the sun was shining across the sea foam, and noah forced herself towards the top, and took a breath of ocean air. boat. she pulled herself under, and looked around. a net was released into the water, and she watched in horrifying flicks of a tail, the dolphin got stuck. 'oh no, oh no.' this hadn't happened before. not in front of noah, and she was told not to help anything. it was a part of life. no. it. wasn't. noah slowly went over to the helpless creature, and placed a hand on it s fin. she went down into the depth, before find what she needed. a sharp rock had already cut her hand, and she began tugging at the net. square after square. she had made a circle around the net watching the dolphin struggle free. the dolphin finally was released, and the bottom part of the net fell free, and noah, being terrified, let out a soft voice. now she really needed to find someone. someone just like her. what if they saw her? what if they catch her before she can get free. what if. someone. anyone. she rushed forwards, toward the enclosed area of an under water cavern before sliding down, her tail holding her up in the water, and she let the thoughts run through.
