- [ Sorry, I had a swim meet last night. I would'ave posted, but too much stress. I'll post when I wake up some more... even though I woke up a couple hours ago. I'm still all groggy and sleepy. ]

She raised her eyebrows in pleasant surprise as she recognized Matthew. They were from around the same area, and Alex had run across him a couple of times. She wouldn't say they were especially close friends -- although Alex didn't really have a lot of those, seeing as she never made any effort to socialize -- but they had had a conversation or two every once in a while. You know. Hey, how are you. Good, what about you? Oh, nothing much. Then they have the awkward silence, and then Alex would usually slink away.
Yeah. That's how talking with people went for Alex. She turned back to the scribble of numbers and variables on her paper and considered them for a moment before sighing. In comparison between doing physics homework and pulling an awkward conversation that would last maybe a minute (and then Alex would have to go back to physics once more), she thought she would take the conversation. Whatever. Let's do this.
Rising from her seat, Alex abandoned her books and papers and stepped over towards the counter where Matthew was just beginning to order something. She would wait until he was finished speaking with the employee before she shook her head at them, indicating that she wasn't here to order something herself. Instead she gave Matthew a small wave from his left side to get his attention before saying, "Hey, Matthew. What's up? You remember me?"
Awkward feelings! Awkward feelings everywhere! Alex internalized, keeping her pleasant smile on her face as she fought the urge to squirm and scuttle away before the conversation even started. He would probably think she was trying to pick him up or something, crap, she should've thought of that. Why else would a girl walk up to you in a cafe and strike up a conversation? Crap, crap, crap, crap. Awkward, sooooo much awkward.
