((Hmm... very interested in this, but I have a bit of an oddball character.

What are your thoughts on characters being related to canons?

Not looking for an excuse to powerplay - the character in question is actually actively trying to keep the connection a secret. (So that could breed some delicious drama and intrigue in the roleplay itself.)

If the answer is a big 'no', that's fine. I just wanted to test the waters before writing out a full profile. ))

Personality:
As one might suspect from his house, Octavian is deeply loyal, especially to his family. He would do anything to protect them. He doesn't make friends easily and is a bit of a loner - friendly and polite to everyone, but very few actually take the time to get to know him, and even fewer succeed. He is very bookish and focused on his studies.
He does find himself ruled by fear some of the time: he is nervous about repercussions should his full lineage be discovered. He is notably prone to panic attacks after accomplishing any feat of magic on 'the offensive' or more aggressive in nature. Fortunately this does not come up often.

History:
This will be a bit long, since I know this is an oddball character.

Family history
While roaming abroad, on the trail of Rowena Ravenclaw's diadem, Tom Riddle briefly met a certain witch from a rather good magical family; his one night stand essentially bought him the information. Turnus Riddle was then born in 1947. Despite his parentage, Turnus was a rather bland character; he had a bookish mind and was drawn to studying the dark arts but in an academic and dry manner. Voldemort, in fact, became aware of his son through his writings, as Turnus had written an exceptional academic treatise on a certain bit of dark arts minutiae.

Not one to let a good resource go untapped, Voldemort contacted his son, who began working with him in his rise to power. By then Turnus had taken a wife - a witch from a respectable family - and was known in academic circles, especially within France. In 1972, they had a son, Augustus, who took after his mother's gentle streak - much to his father's and grandfather's displeasure. With Voldemort's first defeat, Turnus was tried and convicted of treason; his wife Anne and son Augustus moved from Calais to England, near Dover, in an attempt to flee from their reputation.

In the 1990s, with Voldemort's second rise to power, Augustus found himself uncomfortably caught up in the proceedings. Kidnapped in 1989, he was kept for several years as Voldemort attempted to experiment with the blood of a relative as part of a tonic to solve his problems (mainly, not having a proper body). In 1994, after years of torture, Augustus finally escaped out into the English countryside, away from the old castle Voldemort was using a a temporary base. There he was found by May de Beers, a young nurse driving to her night shift at the local hospital. Although May was very much a muggle, it was love at first sight. Soon after they were married, with Augustus changing his last name, they moved to Calais in an attempt to avoid the war and all of its problems.

Personal History
Octavian was actually born before the couple was officially married - and amusingly enough, was born on the ferry crossing the English Channel to Calais. Octavian occasionally jokes that is why he has duel citizenship. In his early life, magic was completely out of the picture: they lived as muggles, with May working at a local hospital and Augustus as a fisherman and general hired hand. When Octavian began displaying signs of magical affinity, it was a problem they could no longer ignore. Augustus had already vowed to never use magic again, after seeing what it could do. He made Octavian make a similar promise - never to raise his wand in anger to anyone or anything. By age eight Octavian displayed remarkable skill, able to do simple charms with his father's wand to help his mother around the house. (The layers of protection charms on the house - Augustus' last bit of magic - kept these minor spells well-hidden from French officials.)
Around the same time Octavian received his letter of official notice of magical talent, his father went off on a fishing trip and never came back. The fishermen told May that he had never gotten on the boat with them, though for years May suspected they were lying - or had their memories modified after the fact. The police investigated but declared that Augustus had likely run off for his own reasons, and pursued the matter no further.
Octavian was bookish but generally well-liked at school, and this trend continued as he attended the all-male school counterpart to Beauxbatons. He excelled in his studies, often working several years ahead (by Beauxbatons standards). He gained recognition and was invited to attend Hogwarts. This will be his first year at Hogwarts, though some of the teachers may already know him from his polite letters written over the summer to ensure that he was properly caught up in his studies.

Description: Tall and lean with a romanesque nose. Tends to dress conservatively. He keeps his hair fairly long, occasionally pulling it back into a short ponytail. He is not one to fiddle with the Hogwarts uniform: he finds it suits him quite well. It's rare to see him in anything less dressy than a button-down shirt.

Fears/Flaws:
He is deathly afraid of being 'found out', should someone discover his connection to Voldemort.
Similarly, he is very afraid of himself, every so often literally worrying himself sick about the fact he's good at his work.
As such he doesn't like using magic outside the classroom. The one dueling club he entered at his previous school - matches all in good fun, supervised by teachers - ended up with him the winner... and in the midst of a panic attack before he had even properly been handed his trophy.
While he tries to keep his temper even, and succeeds most of the time, one surefire way to gain his ire is to insult or threaten his little sister or mother. He takes his position as 'man of the house' fairly seriously. He worries about them near-constantly and writes almost every day to each of them, begging his mother to move back to England and his sister to work harder in her studies so that she can join him at Hogwarts.
In trying to keep the peace, he often can be somewhat of a doormat. He'd rather turn over his homework for someone to copy than get into a fight about it.
