Right now my brain's registering it as sometime after the ending of the Portal 2 co-op story (won't go into detail since that'd be spoiler-heavy xD), so please correct me if I'm wrong. ^^ ))

Bio: From the very beginning, Donald Baker has devoted his life to science. Having been fascinated by technology and since he was a toddler toddling about, it's no wonder that when he entered college he studied such things as computer science and electrical engineering, taking unrelated courses only to fulfill his graduation requirements. After graduating with his Masters degree, he entered the ranks of Aperture Laboratories and started his work in earnest.

Being new to the working forces, Baker was at first assigned to the more menial work that Aperture had to offer: mechanical maintenance of the facility. He would go about the huge underground facility, making sure that no nuts were loose or that the piping on some critical pipeline wasn't about to fall off. Though it was monotonous and oftentimes irritating, Baker stuck to the job in hopes of one day being promoted.

That day came after almost ten years of making sure the facility didn't fall apart due to some loose screw (occasionally though, they called upon him to fix a broken circuit board. How exciting!). The staff at Aperture had started working on a supercomputer AI system that they called GLaDOS, and Baker was put into the research team focusing on building GLaDOS' various personality cores. Thoroughly excited, Baker threw himself into his work, only stopping to answer the needs of his body.

When GLaDOS was finally activated, Baker's department had manufactured quite a few personality cores, even though GLaDOS could only accommodate a few at a time. Nevertheless, Baker and his coworkers celebrated when the scientists in charge of building GLaDOS came to retrieve the Intelligence, Curiosity, and Anger Cores. They put the rest of the lot into storage, thinking that someday they might need them.

The celebration was short-lived, though, when they found that GLaDOS -- despite having Caroline's mind -- had tried to kill the entire human employee base with neurotoxin. Luckily, they shut her down in time, but the very knowledge that the AI had turned out to be homicidal scared many of the Aperture employees more than the neurotoxin had. Because of this, Baker and his coworkers were urged to create yet another two cores: a Morality Core, to install a feeling of guilt into GLaDOS so that she wouldn't flood Aperture with neurotoxins, and an Intelligence Dampening Core, so that she wouldn't get any ideas... 'good' ideas, that is.

The cores worked for a little while, but once again celebrations were stalled. GLaDOS had somehow overridden the cores' programming, and since nobody had believed that she would do it, none of Aperture's employees were near the AI's chamber when the steady streams of neurotoxin started oozing out into the facility. Baker had been supervising the testing of a new core at the time. He had been about to say something to his coworkers when he became short of breath; in a matter of moments, he was passed out on the floor, unable to hear GLaDOS' victorious remarks.

The damaging effects of the neurotoxin on Baker's brain was rather substantial, it seemed. When he woke up from prolonged stasis, trapped in a relaxation vault, he could barely remember his own name, much less who he had been before and where in the world he was. He didn't even react when a voice from a loudspeaker quipped, "We hope your brief detention in the relaxation vault has been a pleasant one," though something in the back of his mind did tingle -- or twitch, more like.
