The Doctor watched the woman walk off with cold alien eyes. He turned back to Tear with a sympathetic expression. The human mothers he was familiar with were highly protective of their daughters. Rose's mother, Jackie, for example, despised letting Rose travel the universe. He could understand the overprotecting, but it baffled him how someone could hate their own daughter with such passion. "We don't have to if you don't want to go. Anyway, it's much easier to show you than to try to explain it."
The little gadget was still purring softly. The Doctor pushed the black button again, and the people's calm smiles slipped away to confusion and disorientation. He looked down at the thing with a slightly embarrassed expression. "Mood manipulator. I probably shouldn't have used it, but happiness chases off the Narian. They hate joy, but the one thing that stops them dead in their wispy tracks is bliss. Bliss is such an addicting emotion." He did an awkward half smile and bit his lower lip slightly. New New York fell so quickly because of the desire of happiness.
"Anyway," The Doctor said is as bright a tone he could manage. "You saw me in that police call box right? You're going to love this," he said with a cheerful, knowing smile. The people around them started shuffling along, resuming their daily business. "How do humans do it? They can just block out everything and pretend nothing ever happened," The Doctor said in a wondering tone. "Allons-y!" he exclaimed, spinning on the heels of his red converse. "Back to the TARDIS!" he said, taking off with long strides back the way they came.

Mystearica nodded slowly before jogging to catch up with the Doctor's long strides, since she only stood up to his shoulders, her legs were shorter and her steps were as well. "It's...quite small in size, isn't-..." Her voice trailed off as she noticed that the inside was very different from what she had expected. It looked like a whole building on the inside. Baffled she murmured, "Oh...I did not expect such a sight...This only confuses me even more..." Looking up to the Doctor's face, she asked, "So you travel alone...? And I assume that you save our world from aliens like those things...Don't you feel lonely? I mean, I feel lonely all of the time, and I don't even see half of the things you experience..." Her voice trailed off as her eyes flickered a bit between their normal, dark brown color, and a soft, dark blue with red and orange around her black pupil. "I have always been a mistake since birth...The doctor of the hospital did something to me...He put me in this insulator, and it malfunctioned...I was supposed to die, but then, things happened...And when I was nine, things went even worse, and my mum hates me even more...She hates me so much that she tried to kill herself, once..." She chuckled softly as she continued, her eyes returning to their usual state. "It has been a while since I have talked to someone. She usually locks me up in the house because I'm a freak. She thinks that I'll bring disgrace to our family name...That's why she keeps me from the world, so I don't really interact with other people, other than my robot dog I created. But Mum burned it after breaking it down since she found it despicable..." Her voice was soft and airy, as always. "So I kind of want to go on this 'trip through the universe'...And don't worry about what my mum thinks...She'll be glad to find out that I am no longer in her life." She smiled a soft, sad smile before tugging uncomfortably at the knee length, soaked, black skirt of hers.

The Doctor listened intently as this girl told him about herself. "It is quite lonely. Occasionally, I have a companion who travels with me and assists me in saving the planet, moon, or satellite where we go. But, I do get very lonely. I'm the last of my species. I have no one else to talk to about what I see and what I have to face," he said weakly. "Of course you can come with me, but it would be irresponsible for me to not warn you. Many bad things happen on the way. People die, get hurt, end up lost forever on another world. Not everything is fun and games and wonder. There are some nasty beings out there. The Narian are relatively harmless. Annoying, but not one of the more dangerous creatures."

“Thank you for informing me beforehand,” she replied. “But I think that I am mentally and physically prepared…” She dub into her velvety black book bag and pulled out a three-inch thick, hardcover book. It was solid navy blue and the edges of the pages were painted gold. Flipping to an empty page, she murmured, “I love scrapbooking…This journey will be a keeper. But do you know what I fear?” As she questioned the Doctor, she closed the book shut and clutched it against her chest. “Death isn’t that scary. As long as I am remembered when my time comes, I will be happy. My worst fear is that I will slowly fade out of the existence of everyone’s memories. So…That’s why I’m so afraid of dying, since my mum doesn’t care about me. But now that we can go on journey’s to help save the world, I’m willing to do anything in my own will to help.” She smiled before shoving the book back into her bag. Her eyes flickered between the dominant blue and recessive red and orange one to the original brown ones. “And I’m not all that innocent for a little girl…I can put up a good fight when I need to…” Pausing for a brief moment, she continued, “So…what’s next?”

"Well, the main question of the moment is do you want to go forwards or backwards in time?" The Doctor said, turning to the central control panel. He spun something that looked suspiciously like a skateboard wheel and turned a few switches. The center started to hum and turn a dazzling shade of electric blue. He studied a screen that had foreign symbols flash by quickly. "She's all set. Name a place or time, and off we go."
This was his favorite part. He loved the expression his companions had when they stepped out of the TARDIS onto another world or place in time. He thoughtfully reflected on fun places to go. Prehistory for earth was very entertaining, what with the dinosaurs and monstrous mammals and all. Then again, he liked visiting early Panoniska. They had the most entertaining creatures that begged to be ridden. And, what made them even better was their agility and speed. They were wickedly intelligent, and you only had to touch their bodies for them to go precisely the way you wanted. They were also possibly telepathic.

“Hmm…” murmured Mystearica thoughtfully to herself. “I think I would like to take a glimpse of the past…” Her eyes widened slightly as a question hit her hard. “Doctor…?” she asked. “If you don’t mind me asking, you said that you had companions, didn’t you? Well then, where are they? Or are they some sort of alien beings who are invisible…? I mean, well…yeah…” Her voice drifted off as she waited for a response, but then she bit her lip hard before adding, “If you don’t want to answer, you don’t have to…And I apologize if I asked too much…” She looked down with an expression of shame.

"I know a great planet," the Doctor said, replying to the first question. Before he released the brake, he turned to answer Tear's second question. "They left, I had to leave them, they were torn away from me. Don't apologize, you have a right to know," the Doctor breathed as he released the brake. With a strong jolt, the TARDIS leaped into the time stream. "You might want to hang on to something. Once we start heading back, it gets really rough," he said, bracing himself against the control panels.

Before Mystearica even got the chance to nod her head, she instinctively grasped the metal bar that was the closest to her as she hung on tight. After a few seconds of adjusting to the new surroundings, she finally managed to regain her composure. In a soft, yet clear tone of voice, she said, “They were…torn apart from you. I see.” Her eyes flickered between their usual, dark brown state and the special state as her mind flashed a few images of herself dying. Exhaling sharply, she asked, “What planet are you talking about? What is it like, Doctor? Who lives there, and what are they like? Is it cold, or hot? And-” She was slowly easing her way towards the control panel when she tripped on her feet and fell onto her right shoulder. Rolling over and onto her feet in a swift motion, she muttered, "Sorry..."
Reaching for her book bag with one hand, she pulled out a fresh, green pear. After taking a small nibble from it, she looked up at the Doctor and quietly offered, "Would you like one?"

The TARDIS stopped with a heavy jolt. The Doctor looked at the pear with an expression of pure contempt and dislike. "Pears are nasty things. Quite nasty. It's like they're imitating an apple, but never quite finished. Now, bananas are something else. Bananas are good. Anyway, if I successfully steered thought time and space, on the other side of this door, we will step out on the planet Panoniska. This is a fun planet. It's perfection, to sum it up." He excitedly strode over to the door and yanked it open, to find not Panoniska, but sand. Far too much sand for any planet to have. "Hm." The Doctor said raising an eyebrow. "I think I took a wrong turn at the stone age."

Mystearica raised an eyebrow slightly. She was highly independent and determined, almost cold at many times, but she had a compassionate side to her. Doing her best not to raise her voice, she kept it calm and cool as she spoke. “I’m afraid I can’t believe the fact that you can sound so casual about such a huge mistake, Doctor…” She sighed as she stood alongside him and looked at the sands. “It’s as though we are in the midst of the Arabian Peninsula.” Looking at her unfinished pear, she felt her stomach churn as a wave of nausea overcame her. She chucked the pear about ten yards out into the distance, but suddenly, the pear hit an invisible force as it zapped into ash, just like a fly when it hits an electric swatter. She swallowed hard before turning towards the Doctor. “Oops…?”
