You are different.
And not in that stupid ‘Everyone’s unique’ sort of way that some optimistic people say with their overly-happy grins. You are truly different, barely even human. I bet it would wipe the smile of those optimists’ faces if they saw you. Because you cannot hide your difference, it’s shown plain on your skin.
A mark.
Not some boring brown birthmark, but one with color, or an extremely odd and surprisingly patternful mark. Some people have marks on their face, others have it somewhere else, but it is always unique. No two people share a mark, not even identical twins. Sometimes the mark isn’t even that, some people have naturally blue hair, or even eyes that are an impossible color for normal people. You have had this mark with you your whole life, branding you as something 'Else than Human'.
There is something else you have. Power. This manifested probably when you first hit puberty, andthose who get it later tend to have weaker powers. You are superhuman, some with the ability to move rocks and others with the ability to read your mind. I made a mistake though, let me rephrase that. You are not superhuman. In fact, you aren’t even human. You are a Hemi. Half-human. The other half, nobody knows.
Oh don’t give me that confused look, you knew it all along. It’s genetic. That means that SOMEBODY in your family is also a Hemi. Sure, Hemis can have normal human babies, as the Hemi gene seems to be recessive, but as a Hemi, you need to have had it passed down to you from somewhere.
Hemies are descendants of the Insolutus people, who were although strange, were human. The legends say that one day, a man came to their village. He seduced and mated with the Queen of the Insolutus, and she had a single child. The First Hemi. The First was the most powerful Hemi ever born. They say we are all weaker because the First mated with a human, which made the blood less powerful. In fact, they say that's why a Hemi's child can be born human.
Anyways, you, like every other Hemi before you, attend a special school. The nearest one to you is in- Well, I won’t tell you, you will find out when you arrive. But it’s hidden in the forests and mountains, an hour drive away from the nearest little town.
Hemies attend this school for one sole purpose: training. We train. And train. And train. To get to Math class alive. And train some more, until we are ready. Ready for what? To fight Daemn of course.
Daemn, the demons from Orci, more commonly known as Hell. Orci is a dimension of evil, the only other known dimension. Or at least the only one connected to earth. It is what so many religions based their hells on. And their demons on the Daemn. We are the sole protectors of the human race, our powers helping us defend them. Or die trying…
