The Ranks

Postby Into the Sky » Fri Sep 09, 2011 10:58 am

Have you ever been wondering what these odd Clan ranks meant? "A queen cat? What? Are there kings, too?" Well, here's the moment you'll find out. :3

Kit:
The stage where every cat starts out, a kitten. They are nursed by their mother, who is a queen. When they reach six moons, or months, they choose their path laid out for them by Starclan: A warrior, who hunts for and defends his or her Clan, or the path of a medicine cat, who heals the sick and injured and inherits prophecies from Starclan.
Their name ends in 'kit.

Apprentice:
When a kit reaches six moons, they normally become an apprentice. Apprentices learn to hunt and fight from their appointed mentors. They hunt for the elders, who are too old or weak to get their own food anymore. They also clean out their bedding and take out their ticks on a daily basis. At times, they are chosen to fight in battles for their Clan. Sometimes a fox, badger, or another enemy to cats appears, and they help defend the Clan from them. They basically are warriors, but younger and are still in training. Their name ends in 'paw.

Warrior:
When an apprentice has shown to the Clan that they are ready to be a warrior, they become one. They no longer have mentors, and are free to choose how to serve their Clan. As said in the apprentices section, they hunt, defend, and fight for the Clan that they are in. The end of their name can be almost anything, as long as it isn't kit, paw, or star; it is reasonable; and it is something cats would know, such as 'heart, 'pelt, or 'tail.

Queen:
A Queen is a cat nursing or expecting kits. Queens go back to their warrior duties after their cats become apprentices, though some queens choose to stay in the nursery and help other queens with their kits. Their name is the same as a warrior's.

Deputy:
Not every warrior can become this, it is pretty hard to do. When a leader's deputy dies, they must appoint a new deputy by moonhigh. A deputy is second in command, and takes over after a leader dies. As a deputy, along with their warrior duties, they appoint patrols, and help the leader with hard descisions. They usually take over when the leader is gone somewhere. Their name can be the same as a warrior's.

Medicine Cat Apprentice:
A medicine cat apprentice is another rare position. Quite like normal apprentices, they have a mentor that trains them. But this one learns about herbs and medicines, and about Starclan. They help the medicine cat when there are many cats to be healed. When the medicine cat is gone, usually looking for herbs or sharing with Starclan, they heal any cat that needs to be healed. They start out with their name in a 'paw, and when their mentor, the medicine cat, thinks they have learned everything about being a medicine cat, they give them the end of their medicine cat name. It is the same as a warrior's. The medicine cat is still their mentor, though, until they die. Then they become a medicine cat.

Medicine Cat:
A medicine cat takes on basically the same duties as a medicine cat apprentice: healing, and interpreting signs from Starclan. When they feel it is time, they take on an apprentice that proves they have medicine cat skills, and teach all they know to them. The leader sometimes goes to the medicine cat for advice. Their name is the same as a warrior's.
