Yeah, most of those are pretty bad. Greenstem is ok, though. I just kind of dislike how people think the name absolutly has do do with looks. I think naming your cat something commonly found in their home is ok if done right. eg; Ferntail, Mossfoot, and Ripplefang are fine. Some things definitely shouldn't mix, though, like naming a Ginger cat Bluepelt, a white cat Darkfur, a brave, giant cat Mousesqueak or a small, timid cat Tigerflame.

Traditionalism works that way (at least, prefix-wise). The reason for that is twofold - because there's no indication of a personality or skill when your kit is born, the best thing to name them for is for what they look like, which is often something that exists in the Clan's territory (Swan-, Mist-, Beetle-, etc). Plus, it gives Clan cats an easy way to identify a stranger from another Clan, so if a dilute tortie (for example) hunts on your territory, you can easily guess who they are with the scent of their Clan and with the list of prefixes a dilute tortie can have.

Traditional suffixes actually have to do with the cat's skills, personality, and occasionally appearance, though that has deeper implications (for example, a -face cat is directly stated to be attractive, with the implication that they carry healthy genes and will produce strong and hearty children). In either case, that part of the name is straightforward and easy to understand. You won't have to sit around wondering why on earth someone was named Sunnyday - Spiderclaw is clearly a dark brown cat who's a skilled fighter.

I still think a cat can judge very little about their kit once it is born, which is when they name it. The suffixes make alot of sense, though, as a cat's skill shows through during apprenticeship. Prefixes, however, can only really be judged by fur colour when they are young, which can limit choices. I actually thought about this, and I gave one of my cats the Prefix Rabbit, despite her being rather slow. I called her that because I thought her parents wouldn't know what she was going to be, but they guessed Quick. Boy, did they guess wrong.
I don't know, I just kind of like the Irony. I also didn't want her just named for her looks.
May have been a bad idea in hindsight, but eh, I still like her.

she has a vivid red X on her left shoulder. it glows a blood vermillion in dimness and gives off a dark and vile aura when you stare at it. she has tiny star markings on her cheeks and around her eyes. they are the color of black opal and shine with luminous dark rose pink and bright green and sky blue. her silky plume of a tail is vividly striped with ink-black slash-like stripes.

her right eye is a dazzling azure and the color of ice. it gleams with a pale white light. her left eye is deep scarlet and emits cerise shadows. she cries crystallized and liquidized painite gems from her right eye and liquid shadow from the left. her nose and paw pads are the color of light but rich mahogany. her whiskers are very long and look like thin ribbons of pure silver stardust. real golden and amber stardust collects and swirls around her paws. bits of it sometimes swirl and spiral up her legs and create a marbled pattern on them.

her scent is like sweet honeydew on pale pink spring flowers. her voice is mesmerizing and melodic and layered with emotion and wisdom. it is charismatic and like that of a siren's.

her claws and fangs and long and sharper than any cat's. the claws on her right paw are diamond and on her left paw they are red diamond. her fangs are unbreakable aquamarine and they all have a luxurious purple tint to them. her build is thin but not skeletal-y so and she is light and slender. she is notably more beautiful and with neater, cleaner fur than any of her clanmates.

she was a natural hunter, fighter and fisher. she was much stronger she looked and knew an impressive array of fighting and defensive moves. she escaped many times without as much as a tiny scar on her cheek. prey never saw her coming, she was such a silent and skilled stalker, and fish had no idea she was perched there, until she swiftly scooped them out with a nimble paw. one stormy night carneliankit's sister died of blackcough and poor desperate and lonely carneliankit ran far away still and blamed herself for what happened. she was very skilled with all sorts of herbs and berries and knew more than an experienced medicine cat but still there was nothing she could do. she named herself unwantedkit because she was depressed and all alone and lost and miserable and sad.

one day she met a leader of a clan. he was a black tom with a pure white underbelly and amber and blue neon stripes. he felt pity towards her and because his own daughter has died not long ago and took her to the clan. his name was amberstar and he loved unwantedkit more than anyone. at first she was a bit bullied by the older apprentices but after a long terrible moon, when unwantedkit was about to run away again, the medicine cat saw the bullies and they got severely punished. since that day unwantedkit became close friends with the intelligent but quiet and shy she-cat. she was apprenticed as carnelianpaw.

carnelianpaw became very skilled at climbing trees and swimming with ease too, because her hunting and fighting and fishing was already perfect. the apprentice was very agile and had an excellent balance. then she found out she is the fastest runner in the clan as well. she had trouble with tracking but her kind and clever mentor taught her so well she had no difficulty with it in no time at all. one night, before her warrior ceremony, she had a prophetic dream from high starclan themselves. it alluded to her distant kin: firestar, and his descendants and half-brother scourge. it went like this:


moonlight will burn brighter than fire
fight the almighty scourge.
like a spring leaf she will blossom
and defeat the withered winter leaf.
in the clan she will go high.
like the squirrel; higher.
like lion she will blaze
and rise to fight for justice and glory.

the evil enemy.

to emphasize her important role in this stand-alone prophecy she was named moonlightshine. she spied on her father's clan, now ruled by her evil brothers. she found out they planned to attack her clan and organized defenses just in time and fought in the epic battle. thanks to her commitment and ingenuity the clan was saved and the villains defeated. in the aftermath of the battle her mate confessed his love for her. she said she loved him too because he saw past her pretty exterior into the sensitive interior. before they had kits her mate died, cowardly ambushed by a mysterious murder, and left moonlightshine bitter and cold and distant for moons until amberstar named her shatteredheart.

shatteredheart only continued to grow more vile and jealous of others. she was so cold at one point that she called herself mistress blackopal, the lady of vengance. she wanted to join her one surviving brother and help him take over the forest and create pain and discord but with the help of the gentle and patient and caring medicine cat she grew sweet and kind again. she became more responsible and diligent and showed very good leadership qualities. blackopal became moonlightstar after her leader made her the deputy and died in the final battle with her evil brother who survived the last great fight. thanks to moonlightstar the clan grew strong and healthy and prosperous.

And that sort of slip-up wouldn't really happen in a traditional naming Clan! There's quite a lot of prefixes that could be used (can't say the same for suffixes, but that's another can of soup). All of them are made to be as precise and accurate as possible. Even a name like Slugfoot isn't a mix-up, since it just means "cat colored like a slug who's fast".
