I mean i don't know much about copy right but i do know that tolkien estates no longer holds rights too tolkien's works so the estate essentially has nothing too do with the movies.

I'm pretty sure that Tolkien Estates still owns the rights, but it's just that they have an ongoing license with Warner Brothers and the such, enabling them to do what they wish with the films and whatnot. The license itself only gives Warner Brothers the capability of using the material in accordance to what the deal on the license was. Of course, Tolkien Estates, especially Christopher Tolkien, isn't very happy with what has been done with it. As far as I am aware, Warner Brothers has until 2017 to renew the rights on The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit (don't quote me on that, it has been a while since I actually looked into it).

I am right there with you on not being a fan of the movies. The first 30-40 minutes of the first Hobbit movie was well done and accurate in my opinion, but the rest has just been horrendous. And the only LotR movie that was well done to me was The Fellowship of the Ring. That one had the fewest changes in all of the movies that PJ has done on the books; the rest just had completely unnecessary changes. It seems to me that the longer PJ has a hold of something, the worse and worse it gets.

I love the movies but I agree that they strayed too far from the book.

I like the lord of rings better then hobbit I wasn't very happy with the second the way it ended was bad it left too much unexplained it was like it only half of the actual movie and that there was a part two but it was under a different title.

He didn't state that there were no girl dwarves; he stated that there were very few of them. Less than a third of the dwarven race is female, and those that are female often cannot be identified apart from the males because they dress themselves (and flat out look) like males.

Also, many male dwarves don't bother taking a wife, and many female dwarves refuse to marry because they have overly-high standards that potential courters are unable to attain; I believe this is stated in one of the LOTR Appendices. Because of this, the dwarven race reproduces very slowly.

This is why Dís is the only female dwarf ever mentioned in the history of Middle-earth, and she's only identifiable by being the mother of poor Fíli and Kíli and the sister of Thorin.

Gimli said that people believed there were no female dwarves but he then said that. They were impossible tell apart. From the males like greenleaf said. Tomlin himself said it wasn't true that female. Dwarves didn't exist but that they looked like the male dwarves making it impossible to tell male from female.

Peter Jackson actually did speak with christopher tolkien about the hobbit however he and christopher had fight after Christopher got nasty with him. Essentially Peter Jackson and him are not speaking they are angry at one another so thats exactly why nothing was ran by Christopher because he got nasty and rude towards Peter Jackson. Also another thing too note is that while presumably Christopher can't do much about the hobbit he couldn't do much about the lord of the rings either.

Look on the bright side: When we are all in our 40s or 50s a new Hobbit movie might come out. :P Then we can relive the pain all over with our children.

We went hiking and we saw this amazing place. It was a quarry and this person had built these amazing thrones, there is even a Middle Earth language written on one of them. My dad discovered it 15 years ago and whoever is building it is still working on it. The rocks are massive and they are perfectly balanced and do not move. It is on the edge of a view and it feels like you are king/queen of all you see. There are hobbit sized tables and chairs and a staircase. There are also elaborate staircases that lead up the thrones.

Without revealing too much, I'm still considered a tween. But don't get me wrong, I adore the series. Most people at my school are like, "Oh yeah. That really boring series with the fancy wizard, Gambledore or something."
It irks me.

I just wanted to say that that particular line in the movie was one of my favorite and is the reason why in the lord of the rings online video game that dwarves are all male race but people do roleplay female dwarves on the rp servers because based on what gimli said in the movie dwarf women always dressed alike which is why often times dwarven women got mistaken for men hence as too why the other day i saw a person roleplaying a dwarf wearing dress that they claimed was female dwarf o.O so that proves my point that dwarf women exist they just look the same as the men.
