Just stumbled across this thread, didnt know something like this existing!
Personally, I am a huge fan of Sabaton. I love not only the sound of their songs itself but also the texts. I am really interested in history anyway, so I guess thats the perfect band for me.

Well, I think I cant really participate in your discussion because I am not that into all that other metal stuff, but just wanted to post here anyway. Where else if not here?

I totally agree with you, I learnt more from the lyrics from Sabaton than in my history classes lol. If you haven't seen them live and have the chance to, you should totally go!! They know how to get the crowd moving!!

ooooh a thread dedicated to metal?! count me in!

i've been a biiiiig fan of metal for as long as i can remember - my father and brother were always blasting the classics as i grew up, and since then i've expanded a lot and acquired my own tastes. deeeefinitely didn't have a pierce the veil and sleeping with sirens phase when i was in high school, heh........
i fondly remember the first heavy metal band i listened to being bullet for my valentine; i put them on a pedestal for a long time, but after a few years they changed their dynamic a bit and i drifted away from them. i edged myself back a bit after that, listening more to bands like a day to remember, we came as romans, four year strong, etc... not exactly metal, but it suited my tastes back then.

but anyway, i find myself listening melodic death metal the most - the heavy riffs and lyrics just soothe my soul, if that makes sense. i don't often listen to black metal, but sometimes i find songs that i like (would love some recommendations if y'all have any!)
power metal is also incredibly fun to listen to at times - especially gloryhammer.

for melodic death metal, however, my favorite bands are:


- be'lakor
- wolfheart
- insomnium
- elysian
- omnium gatherum
- parasite inc.


aaaaand some favorite songs, because i haven't seen pretty much any of these bands mentioned in this thread (then again, i only glanced, lol)

- abeyance
- the smoke of many fires
literally the entire 'of breath and bone' album

wolfheart:
- valkyrie
- last of all winters
- veri
- the hunt

insomnium:
- the promethean song
- heart like a grave
- while we sleep

elysian

- once and for all
- the pulse of the dead


now im gonna peruse this threat a little more and see if i can find any new music to listen to c:<

Hey there!!! Oh yes thank god it was indeed 'just a phase' - I remember those times VERY vividly lol.. but hey maybe it was for the best right?

One day I gotta come back and drop my favorites but I've been really into Dream Theater and Haken lately! I'm still quite new to metal as a genre so I'll give these songs/albums/artists a listen sometime ^-^ I went to DT's 40th anniversary concert recently and it was amazing
