Gone with the Wind wrote:I like the movies better than the books. I read the first one and all they did was walk and walk and walk. And I hated the whole Tom Bombardy thing. But I might try the books again. And they also kept singing in the book, and I would always skip those parts.

Thank you. There are just people out there who don't understand being in love with LOTR.

Especially that big wave of Leoglas fangirls who crowded the theaters and made the whole experience unbearable for the rest of us who actually brought our Anduril replicas and elven cloaks.

I'm not really sure how people can like the movies but hate the books....Uuuhmmm...if there were no books then there would be no movies either...
And seriously...how can you like Lord of the Rings but say that you hate major characters like Frodo and Aragorn? And the love interest between Aragorn and Arwen goes MUCH deeper than what is protrayed in the movies. If you read the Silmarillion, it tells the fanastic history of not only Middle Earth, but a lot of other topics that seem really simple in the movies, but in reality are much more than they seem. For instance: Sauron is not nearly as evil as the original evil of Middle Earth, the spider in the third movie? Yeah, that's a lot more than just a spider. And it describes where the Dunedain, Wizards, Tree Herders, and others come from. It really is facinating and the stories about Middle Earth are so much more than just some "geeky" movies as I have heard some people put it. Tolkien literally created his own world with languages, histories, religion (of a sort), and poetry. And that's much harder than it seems.
And the poetry and song in the books is a major part of Tolkien's writings. He wrote much more than just Lord of the Rings and he was a fabulous author with incredible imagination and ways of thinking. His poetry within the books is just outstanding.
