What was the strangest/funnies thing anyone has ever told you about LotR's or the Hobbit?
Well, the strangest (and most upsetting) thing is when some people on a movie site were being jerks about Bilbo's actions in the spider scene and calling him "brutal" because of the situation when he killed that one spider thing before he got the ring back, and they totally ignored the part when the dwarves pulled the legs off one spider, which was actually "brutal."

End of rant.

Thats not cool! My biggest peeve was someone using their phone a few seats away from me...

This is easy! While watching Desolation of Smaug with my Writing class (best class ever and im sad its over) my friend was quite enjoying the elf scenes xD while the Dwarves, and Bilbo, were escaping in barrels from the Murkwoods, she was rather giggly at Legolas. While he was fighting off the Orcs and standing on dwarf heads my friend tapped my shoulder. I leaning in and this is what she said to me about elves: "oh my god! They are rabbit ninja warriors on steroids!" I couldnt help but laugh at that.

Rabbit ninja warriors in steroids OMG XD

What was the strangest/funnies thing anyone has ever told you about LotR's or the Hobbit?

It probably when I was first introduced to LOTR and the world of Tolkien; I had just finished watching the movies and I think I was in the middle of finishing off ROTK. As you guys probably know, Legolas is my fav character and I was super obsessed with him and elves in general back then, doing my best to research them up whenever possible. We were in the computer lab working on science when my friend tapped me on the shoulder and showed me a poem she had written about me and Legolas:

poem wrote:"There once was an elf named Legolas
Who was very awkward at that
One day he was shot and he died
So -insert my real name here- started to sob and cry."

Ugh. I nearly killed her when she showed me, and my teacher happened to pass right by at that moment. XD needless to say, I quite enjoyed the humor in it once I got over it.

I know tight...? I have weird friends! Then she took her toy Sting and went, "this is what they do!" *referring to Legolas and all Murkwoods really*

She says: "Boing! Boing! Boing!" Waves her sword around while making the sound effects, "Shing! Shing! Shing!"

Oh man, when she did that after the movie i was really laughing at her! It was one of the best days ever xD

@Captain Greenleaf- daw! My friends are Fantasy Nerds with me xD so they wouldnt do that. Oh they know that i would hit them ^^" but you need to tell you friend to rhyme! I cant either but still xD

Who is your favorite character from either series?
It is almost impossibly hard to pick just one favorite from those books... so I'll name a few.
The Hobbit: Bilbo, because it's practically impossible NOT to like him. If I have to pick a less popular favorite, then it would be Fili. I took a liking to Fili before the movies came out, and when I saw him in the movies I was all HECK YESSS. xD <3
The LOTR books: It's a tie between Samwise Gamgee and Tom Bombadil. Sam's loyalty and friendship brought me to tears more than once while reading the books; and because I'm a writer and have a love for poetry -- Tom Bombadil. <3

Thorin, because he's a jerk to Bilbo and the elves.

Denethor from LOTR, for one. >_> I understand that he was in an extremely tough situation, but he was just a butt.

Can't think of anyone from the Hobbit. Thranduil the Elvenking comes off to me as being quite rude to the Dwarves and Bilbo, both book and movie but hey, if fourteen random outsiders crashed into your kingdom and stirred up the enemy you'd probably be pretty annoyed too. And Thranduil has had bad memories with Erebor and outsiders in general, so you can't really blame him.
Tauriel from the movie is cool, but I probably just don't appreciate her as much because she's not from the book. /bookabidingTolkienist

Oh, I forgot to answer one of the previous questions -

who is your favorite character and why?

From Lord of the Rings, definitely Legolas. I prefer the book version of him over the movie version, however, as the books give his character more depth while the movie-one was sort of awkward, to be honest...
But anyways, I've admired Legolas due to his exceptional talent with the bow and arrow, as well as his undying loyalty to Aragorn and the Fellowship. He is wise as all Elves are, but at the same time he is younger than most elves and was raised as a wood-elf (Tolkien mentioned that the wood-elves were more dangerous and less wise than the higher elves), so at the same time he appears more 'human' than the rest of his kind, allowing me to understand him better.

The High Elves such as Elrond, Galadriel, etc., I obviously love them, but with them being 'pure' elves and having more wisdom that any creature would have, their personalities are hard to understand, and they are just way too... elven for my own mortal mind to grasp. :P but Legolas is less-learned and in the books can even appear to have a youthful ignorance and undying optimism, providing comic relief for the readers and encouragement to the Fellowship. To put it in short, he is the character I can most understand and relate with.

^Did that chunk of text make any sense? XD dunno how to explain

For the Hobbit: Thorin, Fíli and Kíli have to be my favorites, with Bilbo following close behind. I haven't quite figured out why I particularly like these four yet, but I shall find out.

Sorry for long post. :P

The BEST scene? I want detail! Movie/Book doesnt matter!

Book (LOTR): I LOVED the barrow-wight scene just because of the detailed description of the barrow and situation. Not to mention i love the super-creepy incantation the barrow-wight says. I have it memorized.

Movie (LOTR) : I really like the scene where Frodo almost gets killed by the cave troll because i like the way the characters' reactions were handled. Also the scene where Frodo gets stabbed by the Nazgul and sees them through the ring- those things look downright creepy!
