Their 2003 album Hate Crew Deathcroll is one of my favourites, definitely try it if you want to know some more from Children of Bodom!

Like most people, I only know their song Bodies xD But thanks for the tip, I'll add it to my list!

I'll give it a listen right away!! Tysm! I love the way they name their songs x)

Yeah that's the one most people know I think LOL. It was definitely the first I heard by them, at least to my memory. It was on Rock Band or something I think? They're neat though! I'm pretty sure at one point one of the members of Soil did vocals for them, too.

^ OH i should mention. They're a lot lighter than Children of Bodom and that kind of stuff x) I'd say Static-X n stuff like that would probably be more up your alley if that's your preferred style! Like I said my music tastes are like,,, aaaaall over the place u_u

Murmillo wrote:Oh, sick, a metalhead thread!! I love seeing all the types of metal here- looks like a lot of power metal, which is SICK!! The guy in my signature is from the album cover for Judas Priest's Painkiller.

Personally I listen to all kinds of metal from all sorts of years, but a lot of it is nu-metal and stuff like that, and most of it, naturally, is 90s-2000s. I listen to a little bit of Powerwolf and stuff too, though!

Some good stuff I like that I didn't see on the list are The Union Underground, Static-X, (Hed) P.E., Powerman 5000, and Mastodon, or some songs like New Disease by Spineshank, Stupid Girl by Cold, Sun Doesn't Rise by Mushroomhead, Dig by Mudvayne, or Do You Call My Name by Ra. :>

I also recently discovered one called Are You Dead Yet? by Children of Bodom that's an absolute banger. I've never really heard much else by 'em though...

edit: Ooh Sevendust too. And people make fun of them but Drowning Pool has some really good stuff - Love & War is an absolute fav song.

ohhhww Painkiller is an absolute classic!! I love your signature holy moly!!!

Children Of Bodom were very big players in their field! It's so sad that Alexi Laiho passed away so young.. Rest easy brother :c
If you are enjoying them you should totally check out 'In Flames' too! The albums 'Colony' and 'Clayman' really could be something for you!(: You probably heard of them before since they are very well known!

Annnd since we're talking about In Flames I'd also like to recommend their very first album here, it's so different sounding and underrated, but deserves way more attention! If you are comparing this to their newer stuff (which is way less heavy) you are not going to believe that it's the same band!! So here you go:

In Flames - Lunar Strain (1993)
๐Ÿค˜ Behind Space
๐Ÿค˜ Lunar Strain
๐Ÿค˜ Starforsaken
๐Ÿค˜ Dreamscape
๐Ÿค˜ Everlost (Part I)
๐Ÿค˜ Everlost (Part II)
๐Ÿค˜ Hรฅrgalรฅten
๐Ÿค˜ In Flames
๐Ÿค˜ Upon An Oaken Throne
๐Ÿค˜ Clad In Shadows

IT IS!! Thank you so much!! I'm so proud of it, as simple as it is, tbh, it's such a sick album cover!!!

Aw man :[ It's always sad when that stuff happens tbh, there are so many young losses in music in gen, esp with alt stuff. u_u In Flames definitely sounds familiar though!! I added all three albums to my queue on Spotify -- I'll be sure to get back to you on my favs!! I already started Colony and it's SICK
The loudest my stuff usually got before now was Mudvayne n Slipknot so it's p exciting to be exploring more!

Also , @Tarunyada I got distracted like halfway through Hate Crew Deathroll but it was cool!! I think my fav was probably Triple Corpse Hammerblow ๐Ÿค˜๐Ÿค˜

Hi hello good time to find this thread! I don't consider myself a metalhead HOWEVER I listen to a ton of prog metal and a couple of other metal bands but the only subgenre I'm really into is prog metal ^^' (and power metal maybe) and I'm quite surprised that (as far as I know) no one here has mentioned Dream Theater!! I think they're a prog metal essencial and one of my favorite groups from that subgenre!! Aside from that, the one band I will always recommend to literally anyone who shows the slight interest in prog rock or prog metal is Haken, this song in special is my favorite

Recently one of my scout instructors recommended Blind Guardian, I guess they're a bit unorthodox compared to other metal (or prog metal, even) bands because of their medieval theme, and my metalhead friend didn't like them that much, but I still think they're pretty neat and worth a listen

Prog metal aside, I'm quite familiar with the most famous metal bands (mainly slipknot, iron maiden, twisted sister, black sabbath, etc) because of my dad, I have a vivid memory of my 4yo self being put to sleep by my dad at the sound of slipknot. A friend has recently recommended sabaton and I liked it.

Anyways, I'd love some prog metal (or prog metal adjecent) recommendations, although there's a high chance I already know the recommended bands, in that case I'd be nice to see someone who enjoys the same groups as me, I think prog metal is underrated

Happy to hear that!! I think In Flames is a great band to start if you want to get into some heavier music (altough their first album could be a little bit too much if you are new to stuff like this! I'm looking forward for your opinion tho hehe c:
Slipknot was my first band too that got me into heavier music!!

DUDE 'Cockroach King' is one of the coolest songs ever to exist!! Very different but so so cool! This makes me very happy that there ARE actually other people who know this song :D
And yes you are right! Dream Theater defo was missing here and is such a big band especially in the prog scene! I just tend to go with the flow in this thread an add bands here and there - it's working so so well now, very happy with that!!
I listen to very little prog metal but I'll look through my playlist and list some songs below!!
Looking forward for some suggestions from you!
Oh and also: Blind Guardian is a great band indeed! Also very well known in the Power Metal scene and so dang influential for so many other bands, I do love their medieval style!!

Those are my Prog Metal favorites that I can think of right now lol (you probably know all of them but Imma try haha):

๐Ÿค˜ Come Hell Or High Water - Native Construct
๐Ÿค˜ Sorceress - Opeth
๐Ÿค˜ Break The Silence - Seventh Wonder
๐Ÿค˜ Hide And Seek - Seventh Wonder
๐Ÿค˜ Flying Whales - Gojira
๐Ÿค˜ Pull Me Under - Dream Theater
๐Ÿค˜ Oroborus - Gojira
๐Ÿค˜ And Plaque Flowers The Kaleidoscope - Ne Obliviscaris

Hey!! I listened to at least the first two albums but got distracted during the second n never ended up listening to the whole thing TwT I made a list of my favorites that I listened to, though!! I really enjoyed Ordinary Story, Coerced Coexistence, and Behind Space '99 from Colony (but Pallar Anders Visa and Man Made God were also really good instrumentals!) From Clayman, I really liked Satellites & Astronauts, Suburban Me, and Another Day in Quicksand!

I know a lil bit of Dream Theater! It wasn't them in specific, but I've seen Mike Portnoy play live with the Neal Morse Band and remember checking the other bands out a bit afterward. I'll have to listen to Cockroach King! I'll have to listen to poorturtle's reccs, too!

Do you know Queensrรฟche? I love their stuff - Silent Lucidity and Is There Anybody Listening are such cool songs. I gotta dip my toes in prog metal more in general though,, it's so cool, I just never am very good at digging around in genres much ๐Ÿ˜”At the same time though I'm sure there's more that I'm just not thinking of yet... I'll have to dig around and update on what I find

TOOL and A Perfect Circle are obvs classics, so's Puscifer though, Maynard James Keenan just does cool stuff in general

edit: Oh Cockroach King is a BIG FAVE and I've gotta come back and think of songs it reminds me of better when I'm less sleepy. This is SO GOOD I gotta listen to more Haken

stoked I found this! I've been into metal since my dad played Metallica's The Four Horsemen for me when I was 12 (over a decade ago now yikes)
Speaking of, if you're looking to add some 80's metal to your artist list:
Black Sabbath
Metallica
Motรถrhead
I'll definitely have to listen through some of the songs and artists in the first post here though, I'm excited to discover some new music!

Edit: whoops you already have Black Sabbath lol

oh and please keep us posted with the prog stuff!! There are so so many great bands out there but they are for some reason hard to find (at least for me haha)

I have been summoned.

Hello to everyone! I'm personally a big power metal fan (Powerwolf, Sabaton, Gloryhammer, Beast in Black, Alestorm, ...) because I generally love music that has a lot of energy. I actually got introduced to this genre because a friend of mine was playing Powerwolf in his car. Blessed and Possessed was the album he had on, I believe. Great album!

I used to be super into Ghost but fell a little out of love with them after the release of their latest album. It just wasn't my thing. I still adore their album Infestissumam, though. And you've got to admire their theatrical nature.

Dream Evil is a band I often return to, too. Especially the album Dragonslayer.

I'll be checking out all recommendations later when I find some time to draw. Doing art and listening to metal is always a perfect combination to get work done.
