The amazon glowed in the new June morning, a strangler fig tree bustled with a family of Spix's Macaws. Three teenage birds were flying around with small bags. Blu, their father, checked the weather off of his phone. "Okay, we are good to go everyone! The weather is perfect, and we should be in Rio by tomorrow,"
Jewel, the mother, cawed loudly. "Kids! Let's go!" She said, rallying their attention. A commotion was gathered outside of the tree. Carla's expression beamed.
"I think they're going to see us off!" She knocked both her siblings aside, then flying and perching on a branch outside. Eduardo, Jewel's father, hurried into the hollow, a few feathers singed.
"We are all heading back to Rio, the sanctuary has caught fire, we have to ask Cathmore if we can stay in her Jungle," Blu was puzzled, he looked toward Jewel.
"Who's Cathmore?"
"She is a Spix Macaw who runs the Rio Spix Macaw Tribe,"
"It's a good thing we packed. All right! Everyone out! We have to go now!" Jewel called, pushing her three teens out the entrance, Blu following her. The entire tribe was surrounded by smoke and fire, ashes flew and engulfed the tribe as they fleed their home. Eduardo was at the front, guiding his panicked tribe to safety. But when they got to Rio would it be safe?
Back in Rio, at the lovely Blu Bird Sanctuary, was the vengeful Nigel, and his 'wife' Gabi, the tree frog. Nigel jumped about on faux branches, Gabi following behind. "Oh Gabi, will I ever get the revenge I deserve?" He sighed.
"Do you have to do it? What if you were at the scene and he was killed for you?" She said esteemed.
"That is a thought...Aha! Gabi! I've got just the idea! I will ask my sister to do the job for me!" Nigel said with pleasure. "My sister! Lola! She is the bird to call when hunting!" He said, running out of the aviary, grabbing a phone off of the secretary's desk. Dialing, her grinned sinisterly.
"Hello, this is Lola,"
"Hi Lola, it's Nigel"
"How are you? I haven't heard from you in a while."
"I'm good. But I have a job for you Lola-"
Blu looked around, small chicks wizzed around playfully. Carla was singing to her iPod, and Tiago was beat boxing to her rhythm. Bia flew straight while writing in a journal. Jewel was calmly flying ahead. It had been a few hours since the left the burnt sanctuary. His stomach grumbled. He hadn't eaten anything since early morning before the fire. Blu flew ahead, catching up to Eduardo. "Sir? I don't know about you, but could we might be able to stop and rest for a few minutes?"
Eduardo glanced around the tribe. "That sounds like a good idea. Everyone! We will all stop at the marketplace and rest!" Eduardo announced. A few sighs could be heard. Blu flew back to his family, then landed as they approached the marketplace. Carla landed on a crate, still listening to her iPod, not knowing someone was watching her... She started dancing to the music, throwing her wings into the air, the spier came up to the crate and as he approached. Carla smacked something. She took out her earbuds, then looked down. A blue macaw rubbed his eye. Carla flew down.
"I am so sorry, I-"
The macaw looked up, yellow was under his eyes. "Oh! Your a hyacinth macaw! I'm Carla, the blue Spix's macaw, and you are?"
"I'm Keeru, what are you doing at the market?"
"We are just resting here until everyone is good to go,"
"Where are you going?"
"We are going back to Rio," Carla said jumping up.
"Rio! Wow! Could I come?" Keeru said, a few blue feathers on his head flared up. Carla stopped.
"You'll have to ask my grandfather first,"
"WHAT!?? A hyacinth? Traveling with Spix's? No, no, no! Carla, I'm sorry, but I think we should be going," Eduardo said, flapping off, the tribe following. Blu landed beside the two teenage macaws.
"Stay behind the tribe, if he does see you, he really won't care, he has a lot of birds to care for," he said before flying after the rest. Carla and Keeru followed the tribe.
Nigel paced around the aviary door. It creaked open. A silky white cockatoo slunk through the door, her yellow crest laid finely across her head. "Good to see you Nigel,"
"You too. Lola this is my wife, Gabi," Nigel said. Lola stared at the little pink frog, then back at Nigel.
"When do I begin?" She asked.
"sometime tomorrow, or about two days" Nigel said, examining his own talons. Lola let out a snort of disgust.
"I have to wait, that will be fun,"
"You only live in the Favelas, you don't live far from here, why don't you go hunting in the Jungle,"
"I suppose you're right, I'll be back tomorrow," and with that, Lola flew off.
Keeru looked over at Carla, she was practically laying on the wind, her head feathers resting on the wind, Carla was on her iPod, Keeru unplugged her earbuds.
"Hey!" Carla said. Keeru took her wing and began to dance with her. Blu stopped, he admired the scene.
"Blu!" Jewel called, flying up beside her husband, then followed his gaze to see Carla dancing with a hyacinth macaw.
"Aren't they cute?" Blu asked Jewel.
"Who is that bird?" Jewel said, not answering Blu's question.
"That's Keeru, he wants to come with us to Rio,"
Jewel shook her head, "whatever. Just get them to hurry up," she said, catching up to the flock. Blu called to both of the dancing birds, hurrying them on.
Later that night, as the macaw tribe flew on, they arrived just a few hundred miles from Rio. The flock settled in an abandoned building for the night. Keeru flew up to were Carla was sleeping. "Hey. Carla. I brought you this," he said, presenting a golden trumpet flower to her. Carla gasped. Tiago's head popped up.
"oooooohh, someone's got a crushhhh," he announced. A few macaws murmured quietly. Tiago giggled. Carla frowned.
"Tiago!" She yelled silently. Tiago stuck his tongue out before falling back asleep. Bia slapped him a few minutes afterwards. Keeru really showed no care.
"Goodnight Carla,"
"Goodnight Keeru,"
Carla was up at the crack of dawn. She admired the flower that Keeru had given her the night before, she had put it in her feathery hair, then looked at herself in a puddle. Keeru popped up behind her. "Keeru!" Carla said. She hugged him. He hugged her back.
"The tribe is leaving we should hurry," Keeru said, he spread his wings, Carla took after him.
The trip was still long, yet boring, but the jungles of Rio were still beautiful. Blu actually seemed to be relieved to be back in Rio. A Spix's macaw stood on a branch. Her blue feathers elegantly shined. "Eduardo? What are you doing in Rio?" She asked.
"Cathmore, we flew from our burned sanctuary, may we stay here for a while?"
"Of course!," Cathmore, the elegant macaw said.
"Thank you Cathmore, oh. This is my daughter Jewel, her teenage kids, Carla, Bia, and Tiago. And this is her husband, Blu," the macaw family all flew up to Eduardo. Cathmore smiled, then stared hard at Blu.
"You look like me," she said, opening one of his wings. "Come with me," she said.
Nigel sat in his aviary. Gabi was perched on one of his talons. "Let's do something cool Nigel, we should do a race," Gabi suggested. Nigel pondered.
"Why not," Nigel said, jumping from his perch onto the concrete floor. "Go!" Nigel said, racing from the start, Gabi behind him. The finish line was feet away, Lola landed hard on the floor, her crest was raised with fury.
"Are the birds here yet? I have heard more squawking than usual in the jungle, I know they are here Nigel,"
"I don't live in the forest! You hunt in the forest! What should I know? Ugh, just bring me back my Blu macaw," Nigel said. "Gabi, the race is over, I'm going to the pool," Gabi followed, glancing back at Lola as she flew out the door.
Cathmore and Blu soon approached a tree. Blu gasped. "This is the tree I hatched in."
"It is, it's the tree I used to live in, with my daughter... and my son."
Blu gasped again. "You... You're my-"
"Mother, yes."
"Wait, I have a sister?"
"Yes, Violet, and her son, Ferdinand, let's go meet them,"
Cathmore and Blu glided through the Jungle, in a hollow was a mother and a mature teenage bird. The mother bird's feathers were tinted with a flourescent violet. The bird looked out.
"Mom! Who's this guy?"
"This is your brother, Blu," Blu grinned upon meeting Violet. Violet dipped her head. The teen bird held out his wing.
"Hi uncle!" He said.
"Ferdinand," Blu said, shaking his wing. A whistle sounded. Cathmore's eyes lit up.
"Time for the game!" She rocketed out, Violet grabbed Blu and flew out, Ferdidnand following.
A huge pit, just like the pit of doom, was filled on both sides with blue macaws. A team including Cathmore was on one side, the other, with a strong male macaw. "Let the game begin!" And the whistle sounded once again. Cathmore juggled the ball expertly, then passing to another macaw, goal! The stronger macaw kicked the ball, passed, and then was stolen by Cathmore's teammate. Over five minutes later, Cathmore had won the game.
"I told you Harro, you will never earn your place as chief!" Cathmore called out. She patted Blu's back.
"Some game huh?" Blu asked.
"Yep, you play?"
"Yeah, I taught my son to play, he would be excellent at offense, you should see him score," Cathmore chuckled. Ferdinand rapidly flew in.
"Grandma, it's Violet, she's sparring with a cockatoo," he reported. Cathmore was shocked, she followed Ferdinand, along with Blu.
The sky was midnight blue, Violet was underneath a female cockatoo, she had scratches all over her face, and had dedicated most of her strength to press the cockatoo off herself. Cathmore's eyes narrowed with anger. She was about to strike, but the attacker used an iron wing to flip Cathmore away. A few macaws flew out, sparring with the cockatoo, but Violet was dragged back after the macaws were given a evil eye with the cockatoo, they flew Cathmore away. Blu flew in, when the cockatoo looked up, she was surprised.
"Get that one! Get him now!" Someone shouted. The cockatoo was thrown a few feet from Blu's encounter, Blu got Violet up, and held her mid flight to the jungle, the cockatoo grabbed a mini crossbow, and aimed for Blu. He was almost to the safety of the jungle, but when Lola shot, Blu felt no pain, although he did hear the arrow hit something he looked down.
"Violet! We survived!" Blu cried. Violet made no sound, but she did gasp."Violet?"
"Blu! Put me down right now! And go get help!"
"Why? Ohhhhhh..." Blu said, then noticing the long cut her back. Blu placed her underneath a bush and flew off as fast as he could.
"I can't believed I missed! I'm the greatest hunter and I kill everything I aim for!" Lola said, disgust in her voice.
"But, Lola, we know where they are now. He's here, in the jungle, but he's waiting for us to find him," Nigel said, petting Gabi.
Carla stared at the stars. Wings flew beside her. "Keeru?"
"Nope. Just Bia," Bia hugged Carla. Carla was happy to have her sisters company. Bia sighed at the stars (preferably numbering off the constellations in her head). "So...I hate to ask, but you seem really happy with Keeru,"
"Yeah, he's an amazing macaw, he loves everything I do, dancing, singing, flying. He's perfect Bia," Carla said, sighing dreamily. Bia smiled and wrapped her wings around her. Keeru sat on the branch above the girls, happy at Carla's words. He flew off, silently back to where he slept.
Blu walked through the infirmary, birds flew about the huge hollowed out tree. Cathmore flew up to Blu, her wing loosely strapped. Blu still looked around.
"Where's Violet?" He asked, his blue feather ruffled
"Over here Blu! Where's Ferdinand?" Violet called, laying in a leaf hammock.
"He's safe, he's just staying with us until you heal,"
"Alright,"
With that, Blu flew out of the crowded, hollowed tree.
Carla flew into the tree where her and her family were staying, Keeru flew out from the darkness, and grabbed Carla's wing. "Carla, I overheard what you were saying about me,"
"Oh! Yeah, I thought only Bia was there," Carla said, blushing. Keeru grabbed her other wing.
"I made this for you," Keeru showed her a painting of two macaws, one had yellow beneath its eyes, and the other held an iPod. Carla gasped.
"It's you and me,"
I'll add on as soon as I have more to add
