I kind of understand it. Say you name was - I dunno - Bob, and you join a group and they say,"No, Bob. You have to be called Branchfoot now even though you've been used to being called Bob for your whole life." Besides, there have been other cats that have joined a clan and not taken on a warrior name, even if Millie and Daisy are the most noticeable ones.
I am okay with Daisy and like Millie. Millie's character got downgraded in Omen of the Stars, although she did get better again in the later part of Bramblestar's Storm. Although, I probably have a bias when it comes to Millie. You see, I didn't read the first book first. I actually read the Lost Warrior arc first, so the first two characters I read about were Graystripe and Millie.

At least the newest kittypet allowed into the clan took on an apprentice name. Stormpaw I think it was. Frankie was his name before so well done there, I guess.
I have conflicting opinions about this, I think that if an outsider wishes to join a clan, they should be willing to take a new name, but at the same time, I understand that they wouldn't want to just throw away their past... ugh I hate when this happens, somebody have an opinion for me, please.

Part of the warrior code is dedicating oneself fully to the clan. A warrior rejects the soft life of a kittypet, amd by not taking on a warriors' name, I feel that it goes against the warrior code. Plus, I believe Bluestar says something about a cat not being able to live a paw in each world. A loner, rogue, or kittypet chooses to leave behind their life and join a Clan; they shouldn't have a problem changing their name. After all, Rusty changed his name. So did two former rogues from ShadowClan in Yellowfang's Secret, if I'm not mistaken.

I think they aren't neccesarily living with a paw in each world, as they are still loyal to their clan. Being named something different doesn't change how much prey you catch, and whether or not you go against your clan. It's nice to go as far as changing your name to be in a clan, but I don't think it truly matters.
I think I won't say anything else on the matter, as I don't want to fill this up with posts about name changing importance too much.

My belief is that a loner/kittypet gets a trial run of sorts in the Clan - maybe a month. If they prove themselves and are accepted into the Clan, they should change their name, as that signifies them fully dedicating themselves to warrior life and not looking back into the past.
Besides that, warriors are always changing their suffixes (and occasionally, entire name), so name-changes wouldn't be seen as that big of a deal to them.
