Well maybe since he was in a mood because of losing the ring he killed it in a slightly more brutal way, but he would have and should have killed it whether there was a ring or not.

Yeah, that's the most probable theory. Bilbo may have been slightly twisted by the ring, but that spider was by no means a 'harmless' creature.

It wasn't a spider Bilbo killed to get the ring back, it was a centipede.
the anatomy of spiders and centipedes even during their juvenile states is very different. They bare a strong resemblance to their adult forms.
I could tell it was a centipede just by looking at one of it's legs..

and Centipedes are not harmless creatures many species have venom or poison, Look if you were in the situation that he was with the gear that he had, many of us would react in the same way. besides he wouldn't know if the thing was poisonous or not. All he knew is that it is big and scary and probably dangerous.

did you know that when the dwarves pull the legs off one of the spiders, the legs break in the same place it would if you tried to do it on a spider living today

Really? I never thought of that. Who has time in that situation to stop and wait to see if it's dangerous? Should he have walked past it and put his back from it to pick up the ring, giving it a chance to attack from behind?

Can you refresh my memory? Did the centipede thing actually come at him like it was attacking like the spiders? Or did it just stand there?

I thought pulling the legs off the spider was more brutal.

Yes it came out of a tunnel thing, which I guess could be interpreted as the critter coming at him.

No one has the tme to check and see if it's dangerous it's like a poinous snake you don't stop and see if it's poisonous you leave it alone or in bilbo's case you kill the creature.

O.o Elves you see the first guy on right whose face is cut off from the picture i'm fairly certain he was in the fellowship of the ring in rivendell. I am also fairly certain he was one of haldir's siblings when they went too lothlorien and where surrounded by all the gaurds and haldir says the dwarf breaths so loudly we coudl ahve shot him in the dark XD


Tackle hugs thranduil and his elf gaurds they are so pretty XD except that one guy behind the guy on left everyone else gets a hug though XD
