💛 Hello fellow chickensmoothians and welcome to my annual endometriosis awareness giveaway! March is the month of endo awareness and yellow is our awareness color! As someone who has been suffering from this disease for a long time I decided to take it upon myself to spread a little awareness on chickensmoothie. Please, first off read through the quick guide below before you get started!

⭐️ First of all, you are not required to read through all information of the giveaway posts, only the rules are required to be read! I would appreciate it if you do, but if you are just here for the giveaways themselves you are more than welcome to skip right to the corresponding posts!
⭐️ Each giveaway type has its own small ruleset that you should take a quick glance at. That makes things easier for everyone in the long run :>
⭐️ The giveaway will take place from March 1st - April 1st! After the giveaway is done, the thread will be locked until next year to prevent any possible confusion.

💛 Why do I host this giveaway?

I suffer from stage 4 endo, which is pretty much the worst case scenario. You see, while even some stage 4 endo patients do not experience any pain or other symptoms and live a normal life without ever having any issues, in some rare cases it can get so bad that every single day becomes a challenge. For me, this is the case.
Because of endometriosis, I am struggling on a day to day basis to even get out of bed, having to call in sick at work, having huge issues with concentration and a foggy head. Because aside from the pain I'm also constantly tired (my body is constantly taking up resources to fight the inflammation) - no matter how much I sleep - and have various additional health issues, including mental health issues that get worse because of endo-related symptoms.

If it gets bad enough, endo can basically interfere with every aspect of your life, including work, friends and family.

I had a feeling that I had endo years ago, but since endometriosis is not very well studied at all and many doctors do not know much about the disease, I was brushed off time and time again. I officially got diagnosed in spring this year, after a whole 8 years of trying to be listened to!
Because it took this long to get my diagnosis, the endo tissue has spread so much that I now require major surgery and months of rehab to prevent it from actually getting life-threatening. While I am a very rare and extreme case, if more people were able to get diagnosed sooner, they wouldn't even end up in situations similar to mine.

This is why this topic is very dear to my heart and why I would like to spread awareness wherever I can! :>

💛 What is endometriosis?

Endometriosis is a non-lethal disease that only affects people who have been born with a uterus. It affects about 1 in 10 people. Endometriosis causes uterine-like tissue to grow outside of the uterus (it obviously does NOT belong there) and as a result, those affected often have adhesions, inflammation and scarring in the affected areas. But most of all, the most common and notable symptom is severe pain, especially linked to the menstrual cycle.
Endometriosis is a chronic illness that is not yet well-researched. It has been overlooked for a long time and has been (and still is) downplayed by many medical professionals world wide, even though the disease can be significantly impacting quality of life.

💛 Quick facts about endometriosis

• Endometriosis is a chronic disease.
• Due to the lack of education and difficulty in diagnosing the disease, it takes affected people around 7 years on average to get diagnosed.
• The only fully reliable way of diagnosing endometriosis is through laparoscopy, however, sometimes it can also be seen on an MRI scan or in rare cases during ultrasound scans!
• Endometriotic tissue can grow almost anywhere inside the body, including on the bowel, the bladder, on scars, the lungs and even on the brain!
• Endometriosis, if untreated, can lead to infertility.
• Endometriosis is not usually a life threatening disease, however, depending on where endometriotic tissue is growing it can lead to serious and life threatening complications such as bowel obstruction, organ dysfunction, severe adheasions and the list goes on.
• There are ongoing studies showing that - while endometriosis is not a lethal disease in itself - it shares a lot of similarities with cancer.
• Endometriotic lesions can create their own blood and nerve supply, causing even more pain and sensitivity in the areas around them.
• Available treatments typically include hormone treatment to stall the growth of endometriotic tissue and over the counter pain killers, however, surgery is the main option to get the tissue removed if it is causing significant symptoms. This is usually done with minimally invasive laparoscopy.
• Even after surgery endometriosis can return!

💛 I think I might be affected by this disease, what should I do now?

First of all, the most important thing is to always ask your doctor for help! If you can, you should make an appointment with your obgyn and they will be able to tell you what steps to take. There is no way to diagnose endometriosis other than that unfortunately. It can also be very helpful to sign up in online forums about endometriosis. Many people with this illness are more than happy to connect with others through their endo journey and help each other out! 💛 Always remember

For most people, the hardest part of their endometriosis journey is getting diagnosed. Even if it takes a lot of time, never lose hope and don't throw the towel if it seems like no one is listening! All of us endo warriors know how hard it can be sometimes, but always remember that you are never alone! There's many of us out there fighting the disease together! The most important part is to never give up and don't lose hope. Advocate for yourself, because the pain you experience is real!

💛 Yellow is the color of the endometriosis awareness ribbon! Because of this, all yellow pets (rare any below) that have been donated will be thrown in the weekly raffle prize pool! Every week I will be drawing one winner who will get them all!
